Great update, however app load time is still too slow. Takes too long for the app to start.

Yeah, Derek said load times were going to be a significant update but it's still pretty slow. However, I noticed that instead of taking forever to load, and then waiting forever for the message itself to load, the message loads while the app is loading, saving half the time right there. Don't know if you noticed this.

Derek or Enflick,

Do you plan on adding group text features into TextNow? I love your app, but i feel that this is one big feature that is missing from your app.

Another feature request i have is tighter integration with Google Voice. Do you have any plans for tighter integration where a text could be initiated from Text Now and have it from your Google Voice number?

Don't forget the AT&T $5 plan. But some people get confused about using a separate phone number for texting.

I tell people my iPhone number is my home number, and my Google Voice/TextNow numbers is my mobile.

Works great, until they start sending pictures to my GV number. People rarely do, so I'm willing to live with it.

Our Beta for the Universal version of TextNow is ready. If you would like to Beta test, please email me your iPad's UDID!

Please indicate whether you are an existing TextNow user or not in the email (we need both existing and non existing).

My email is derek at enflick dot com.

Thanks!

Here are some teasers!

Would be nice if it was updated for iphone 4's higher resolution
The buttons don't look too great on it

Also when sending a message to a number not in your Contacts, the number doesn't show up where the name usually would. It's just blank and you don't even know who you're texting

This thread is long and confusing....

It looks like this thread has been around since the first version of the program, when maybe it had a different name.

Let me see if I have this straight:

I have installed textNow free on my iphone. Noone that I will likely ever send a txt to via that program will also be using that program. So it will be used strictly as textNow (my end) to and from regular cell phone SMS (their end).

Receiving txt's in textNow Free:
When I receive a text message to textNow from one of my friends who sent it from their regular cell phone to my textNow address, I am going to be charged at my AT&T plan's rate for receiving a txt message, right? If I read this thread right, TextNow receives texts to your iphone through your cellular carrier if the person that sent it isn't using textNow. Is that how it still works or have you guys changed that system now in the year or so since that was posted in a thread?

Sending txt's in textNow Free:
When I send a txt using textNow free, no matter if I am sending to a textNow address or not, the send will be free as long as I am on a wi-fi connection. Is that correct? Obviously if I am connected to the AT&T network and send a txt with textNow, I will be charged according to my data plan. Is that true?

I am roaming internationally right now and would like to send free text's to my friends back in the states. AT&T's international texting rates are rediculous ($.50 per text to send). I have an unlimited texting plan in the states and they told me that I will receive texts for free then, because you receive them based on your plan in your home country. The international rates apply for sending texts.

So long story short, If I have txt conversations with friends back home while I am overseas using textNow, and those friends are NOT using textNow on their end, but simply replying to my @textnow.me address from their phone's built in SMS app, I shouldn't see any unexpected charges on my bill? AT&T assured me that I can receive unlimited text messages for free while I am overseas and I will likely only use this while I am connected to a free wi-fi connection. I understand that if I am not connected to Wi-Fi, international data rates will apply.

TextNow only uses data, wether sent or received (assuming they sent to your TextNow account and not a regular text to your email). So for YOU zero text messages would be used. Regluar rates still apply to friends not using TextNow for sending and receiving them.

In your case, just be careful about those international data rates you spoke of. Only use WiFi. I would recommend turning of your cellular data in settings. Note you will only be able to receive texts while in a wifi spot, BUT if you are correct in saying that you can receive international texts for FREE while traveling abroad, then you would be better of with your friends directly sending texts to your number. That way you can SEND texts for free while in wifi (in TextNow) and RECEIVE texts for free anywhere (using your regular phone number). I bit more of a hassle that way, but benefits outweigh in my opinion

does that make sense?

fyi, at least on AT&T, receiving texts without a text plan costs you $0.20 per message.

maybe not overseas though. That's what the poster claimed AT&T told him. I would believe it because I know that almost every other country besides the US doesn't charge to receive texts, so that makes sense. But I would definitely get an official guarentee from at&t and write down the name of who told you that

If anything they're going to charge you more if you're roaming overseas on an AT&T SIM. It's true that most carriers don't charge for incoming, but AT&T is notoriously customer-unfriendly. They do because they can.

Hi Derek, I just like to report something. I'm using the textnow as notification on my company. It is used in a group email. I tested it and when I use textnow on a group email I don't get the message. If I only put the textnow address I get it.

Please check

I have 3 iPhones that all share the same iTunes account. Only one of my phones is showing "Lifetime" and the others expire 10/22 now... WTF?

It is because they are using different 'TextNow' accounts. If you use the same TextNow account on all devices, it will show the Lifetime.

Derek,

I have Textnow setup on my iphone4. And I followed your instructions for setting up google voice and text.

Everything works fine when I initate a text to my friends and they respond back. It also works when my friend text me at my @textnow.me address

My question, can my friend text me using my google voice phone number and it will forward to my textnow app on my iphone?
