We are working on a new update. Stay tuned for announcements.

Exciting! I've been using TextNow with GV for a while now. I had thought of the email forwarding to it before reading this even and was hooked!

A couple of things though that I'm not even sure can be dealt with. I'm not familiar with how Push messages are handled by individual apps but if you have any way of telling what messages may have been pushed to the phone, could it be made to avoid having the app ding for all the messages when you open it?

When I hear the ping from the text when it's pushed, I don't need the reminder when I open the app. A simple work-around would even be to just suppress all sounds within 2 seconds of launching. This should prevent que'd messages from making noises. Of course the Unread dots should still appear as normal.

Since integration with initiating messages for GV is non-trivial, It's possible using JSON calls derived from the new web-app though, I find it necessary to delete specific items in my message history. Normally, if a conversation has been idle for a week or so I delete the convo from my history. If I do this I cannot send a message to the person without going back to the Google voice website. What I would like to do is open a conversation and be able to delete all messages in it while leaving it still active. I feel like that would be a good work-around.

I'm not sure if any of these are part of your new update, but I'm excited either way and I hope my suggestions are taken into consideration.

Push messages are sent to the phone and the application itself is never told that there was a message sent for that application. The springboard (the home screen) is told to simply display a badge next to the icon if that option was turned on in the push settings for the app.

If you click view or slide to view if the screen is locked I believe that message can be sent to the app in some very very simple way. But if you have several messages sent there's no way for each one to be given to the app. Just the message you clicked view on. There are clearly issues with doing it this way so what they're doing is really the only way to do it in the current implementation of push.

The ignoring of the sounds is a nice idea though. It is sort of obnoxious to have to hear them twice.

hey derek, is there any chance you will be able allow users to be able to initiate GV conversations from the app instead of having to initiate them through the GV website?

and I REALLY hope sending to multiple people will be in the next update! I really needed it today but had to text 10 people separately.

hiii

More importantly can your friends text message you at all ? More specifically initiate a text message to you, if you are using this APP. What do they text it to ?

If a friend initiates a text ( from any phone with SMS ) , as texting it to my phone # , its not free as the name implies, and goes to the build in texting APP, not Unlimited 2.0 .

They text you to an email address the app gives you. Works fine. You can initiate texts but not from your google voice number.

derek, is there any way to know or confirm that my text was sent to my contact for sure? Do I get an error message if - for some reason - my text is not sent to my contact?

When you text people does their number show up on your normal at&t bill like a normal text would??

If you are using textnow. it does not go to your built in messaging app. Textnow use your data to send message. So you will not see any bill. I'm not sure what number shows up on the other end (their bill) which receive your textnow message.
