Agreed. Unless they would lower the price to $399 for the base model, it's not very appealing...
Gee, what are you guys expecting? Mac Pro specs in a Mac mini?

I think nearly everyone has been expecting MacBook specs in a new Mac mini and most are fine with it.

Whether or not the enclosure is updated makes no difference to me. Gaining FW800, an extra USB port and much improved graphics will be a nice improvement. I fear the prices will go up $100 though.

The suspected specs are fine, but it's pretty pricey as it is IMO. And I would prefer iMac specs in it but that's just me.

Oh Steve....

OK...so we all know you've taken a leave of absence. You've clearly got too much free time. It's simply a mule from the shop. Not the real deal. Thanks Steve for creating one more rumor.

:apple:

ha that would be hilarious. the revenge of Jobs

Im still not a believer seeing how easy it is to take those panels off. Plug it in, show us specs.

If this is the new Mac Mini I think you've helped a lot of people decide to put there money into another product like, food, gas, or a savings account.

but they are NOT (supposed to be) compatible with eSATA...

SATA and eSATA are exactly the same standards-wise, they just have different connectors and cables more suited for their intended environment: SATA connectors are much weaker and easier to pull out, and the cables are unshielded; eSATA connectors are stronger and can be inserted and disconnected a lot more times than SATA, and the cables are shielded. It is possible to buy SATA-eSATA adapter PCI cards (really just a covering plate with an eSATA connector or two and some SATA cables on the inside).

Three words.

PLUG IT IN

Bingo. Plug it in, prove the ports actually work, show us the System Profiler.

I always believed you.

Awsome video.

EDIT: plug it in please. What GPU?

Plug It In!

Maybe it's actually his jobsness sat at home bored ******** hangin on MR , anyone got any close up of Mr.Jobs hands .

PS. Plug it in please Steve

you guys crack me up.

we went from several pages of people saying that there were clear problems with the original photo that PROVED it was a photoshopped fake, and then when a video pops up as requested, proving that there are no fake pixels in that previous photo, all anyone can say is "plug it in or it's a fake" like plugging something in makes it more real.

I suppose you'd want a video of him disassembling it and showing you the mobo with the two video outputs, too?

You can see INTO the holes in the back in the video...they are 3 dimensional and clearly factory-made. The connectors are real, the placement of everything is real, and there are no indications that this is a mock-up from apple...if it were a "mule" then it wouldn't have the ports labelled, would it? if they were going to release a new, alu and black case for the mini, they wouldn't have gone to the trouble of fabbing, finishing, painting, and stickering an in-between product, would they?

of course not.

it's real. the only thing we don't know about this thing now is the price.

If it's 600 bucks base price, it will sell really, really well.

better than the apple TV, certainly.

Yes. Otherwise it could easily be a back panel or a real Apple prototype with no internals.

Why not?

43.7% convinced. The top edge of the aluminium body looks too bevelled, I mean check out the highlights. The current mini, iMac, PM, all sport sharp alu edges, I don´t see this rounded look as an aesthetic improvement at all! Also, doesn´t the power button look a little funny too?

It does look convincing. However, the top case edges look somewhat rounded, not as sharp as on my Mac Mini. Can you confirm this, Monthy?
edited: Oops, the same concerns as in Belly-laughs' post.

Ahh jesus. Who knows if it's real or not. I would have thought that Apple would have went with the black on aluminum color scheme of the newer Macbooks.

By the way, someone could have EASILY modified the back of a Mac mini case with all those ports. If you don't at least flip to the bottom of the Mac mini, or plug it in and show us the System Profiler info, then this might as well be FAKE.

I won't believe it until I hear it from Apple themselves.

Why I did all this? Maybe you do not believe it, but I love Apple and somehow I think this can help to sell it, as more people will wait for it. It is good ad for them, I think. It is worth waiting!

I think it is cool that you contributed this, and if this turns out to be the new model you should get a bump in status.

There are a lot of 5+ year posters here that are more newbie than you.

snip
maybe they are keeping the 'low end' white ? whitebook and Mini =white everything else silver , just a thought.

Give up the battery and save yourself $125. Give up the display and save yourself $150. Give up the keyboard and save yourself $75. Give up the trackpad and save yourself $50. Give up the unibody frame and save yourself $200. Subtract all that and you basically have a new Mac mini at $700. I don't think Apple would sell it for $600.[/QUOTE said:
The beauty of these is there ain't much to em and there are only 2 wildcards.

*custom Aluminum mini case: $100
PSU brick: $25
*mobo/chipset/chip: $250
HDD: $50
Opti: $40
RAM (DDR2!!!) $25
________________________________

The 2.0 chip is $179 I believe. Or around there. The case includes a DC daughter board, HS/FAN assembly and could very well be cheaper, but is based on the RETAIL price of a decent mini-itx case. I'd bet I'm within $10, though they may be $70 as they are straight from the aluminum press, but it's thick stock. I'm being real generous with the opti and RAM. As per usual, there is a $6 premium for super vs combo drive, which they gladly consider to be a large value added. When with the GD combo drive die?

No DDR-3, just like the low end macbook and is way more expensive. HOPEFULLY, HOPEFULLY it will include a 9400 instead of x3100 or 4500HD which is probably a $10 premium but is only one chip. But that small a part price jump doesn't mean jack compared to what it offers the customer and software developer for capacity.

Knock off $150 for Ion (atom), which is bunk.

I think I didnt do anything illegal, I didnt sign any NDA or anything like that, lets say I met a guy in a subway who offered me something and I bought it....

You didn't sign an NDA but you knowingly took a product that Apple has under a strict NDA agreement. By knowingly saying this you have admitted that you are trying to weasel yourself out of possible infringement by Apple. Eitherway, turn it on and post specs, you don't need to ask anyone, you already broke the law. Might as well make it worth something. I'd rather get my ass sued off and be believable, than get my ass sued off and have people doubt me. Eitherway, your either stupid and lying, or getting sued. Make it count, turn it on.

I think he said : " let's just say......"

maybe he doesn't want to get anyone in trouble kinda thing ?

Again I worked for Apple for years. They are not only smart but wise in protecting there equipment. They know who had that potential prototype and they will track that person down, and prosecute everyone who breathed on that thing. They might even sue you for seeing it :apple: and they should.

Maybe it's a 'leak' via Apples marketing department (again)

Don't believe those rumors. You think Apple likes watching there stock tumble when rumors get out. Apple if very serious about there NDA, and these fake leaks are just garbage. Apple again is a very smart business and people need to understand that, they are a business not some cult.
