Referees don’t have an easy job. Every decision they make is played back from 10 different camera angles, slowed down and debated to death.
But they should be impartial. Unfortunately they are not always.

Dean’s admission was, in a word, dumb.

However, I think we should pay attention when he talks about dreading VAR duty. If that is a widely shared sentiment among refs , it probably indicates there’s a genuine issue there that needs to be addressed.

Only Chelsea will spend £1bn and still look like they need 3 top class players. Defender, Forward, and Keeper.

Luton are still in this funny enough
If Chelsea do not put at least 6 goals past Luton, someone needs sacking. You do not spend the amount of money that Chelsea have and then struggle against the leagues new boys.

Chelsea have a lengthy, lengthy injury list right now, but they should have city-like quality of depth for all the money spent. Lots of new players plus a new manager, it's going to take time. Meanwhile, I can still enjoy them struggling.

No real struggle for Sterling by the end, with two goals and one assist.

It is going to get worse

The Spanish FA are saying that the fault is all Jenni Hermoso fault and totally of her doing. The Spanish FA in their statement have included a play by play sequence of images which they say show Hermoso is the one at fault here not Rubiales. What is clear to see is that yes Hermoso did engage in an emotional celebration with Rubiales, putting her arms around him, hugging him, lifting him off the floor BUT none of that gives him the right to kiss her on the lips.

This is the exact same problem that rape victims suffer, they initially engage in flirting, kissing, hugging, caressing, that sort of stuff BUT the woman has and never had any intention of having sex with the man but yet the man has sex with her anyway and then say's it is her fault because all the flirting and the kissing and the hugging and the caressing means she 'wanted it'.

Just because Hermoso celebrated with Rubiales the way she did did not give Rubiales the right to kiss her. He believes it does and is defending that standpoint but his outdated views and attitudes towards how to handle such a situation are totally and completely wrong. As one of you so rightly point out in a post, it's a man's problem and needs to be sorted out by men.

This blame game on women by men needs to stop. It does not matter if a man feels he is being led on by a woman. If the woman does not give her consent to take things further than it stops. Hermoso did not give her consent to take the celebration further (the kiss) thus Rubiales should have ended the embrace there and then.

It is deeply depressing that what should have been a story about the celebration of a World Cup winning team (who won despite their coach, not because of him) should have been turned by Rubiales into a story all about him, and the fact that he has doubled down on his sexist, entitled and disgusting behaviour is very revealing.

Hermonso has stated that pressure was brought to bear (by the Spanish FA) on her to make a statement in support of the president (Rubiales), which, if true (and it seems all too credible to me), is even more disgusting.

The Spanish FA’s behavior in going after Hermoso just underscores my previous comments.

And if the players do remain serious about a strike they have the power to take them down, though it’s potentially going to be a big fight. If only the male players stepped up and joined the strike- this would be resolved in minutes. Time for a big cleanout at the rotten Spanish FA…

Couldn’t agree more. That would certainly sort things out.

It has just been reported that FIFA have suspended Rubiales "from all football related activity" for an initial period of 90 days, and have also banned him - or prohibited him - from contacting, or attempting to contact, Hermoso (and what is described as her "close environment"), either himself or through third parties.

It remains a complete and enduring mystery to me why we actually bought Kai Havertz, and an even greater mystery to me is wondering why Mikel Arteta seems to rate him so highly.

Well, I suppose that every manager has a few blind spots.

Good to see United fight back after such a disastrous start. So many changes need to be made.

Guessing Brighton thought they only needed to get off the bus and they'd win.

Arsenal look an unbalanced side...unnecessarily so. Partey does not belong at RB IMO, thats not his game. And dropping Gabriel to accommodate Havertz is...weird. The Saka/White connection has been disrupted and the Martinelli Xhaka/Zinchenko link play has also been disrupted.
Arsenal are playing worse than last season. If Arteta doesn't stop tinkering they may seriouslystruggle.

Utd have work to do even with their win.

Postecoglou continues to make Spurs believe.

Everton in free fall

West Ham played to their strengths. JWP looks like a real bargain at £30 million. Fitting in well with our style of play.

Yes.

But West Ham have a clear plan, play to it, and bought intelligently over the summer.

Agree completely.

For now, they look unbalanced and uncertain and have started worse than last year.

None of their games so far were actually commanding, confident or convincing.

Beyond weird.

Gabriel was excellent last season.

And, as for Havertz: I simply do not understand what Mikel Arteta sees in him, and the fact that he has yet to find his ideal position is unsettling.
The Saka/White connection has been disrupted and the Martinelli Xhaka/Zinchenko link play has also been disrupted.
Agreed.
Arsenal are playing worse than last season.
Again, agreed.

Far worse.

While Timber's injury is a blow, the side is unsettled and nowhere nearly as composed, confident and cohernet as last season.
If Arteta doesn't stop tinkering they may seriouslystruggle.
True, alas.

Utd have work to do even with their win.

Postecoglou continues to make Spurs believe.

Very much so.

They have flirted with relegation over the past two seasons, and, at some stage, this will catch up with them.
