Watching the second half of the Sportswashing Derby in the Carabao Cup.
Toon currently 1-0 up and appear to be dominating proceedings thus far (10 minutes of regular time and unknown diving time left).
Pep has just been shown the traditional Yellow for misbehaviour on the touch line. After which he then approached the fourth official and made faces and comments, which I would have thought would elicit another yellow, but he's been allowed to vent as he so often is.
He really appears to be a great coach and an awful sport.

Odd match at Anfield. Klopp sent out a team sprinkled with youngsters who immediately gifted Leicester a goal, but then went at it hammer and tongs - it was very reminiscent of a Klopp 1.0 ‘Heavy Metal Football’ team.

‘Pool dominated but the ball perversely would not go in for Ben Doak or Harvey Elliot…several off the crossbar/cleared off the line. Jota and Gakpo also started but were no luckier. Leicester we’re conceding chance after chance but continually escaped.

Eventually Klopp reached into his kitchen spice cabinet and threw in Nunez and Szoboszlai. Eventually the big guns started firing and in spite of more misses Gakpo, Szoboslai, and Jota found the net, the latter with a very cheeky backheel.

Citeh OUT.
Saudi Arabia 1-0 UAE. I thought the international weekend was last weekend? 🤣

Newcastle really need some new physios….their players seem to suffer so badly from cramp….at least as long as they are ahead late in a game. Not the look of champions, I must say.

Can’t wait to read all the furious posts by Cityzens below the line on all the match reports…

And Newcastle / Man Utd are drawn together in the next round. Fine with me — either lose early and get more rest, or beat one of the strongest remaining clubs early and have it easier in later rounds.

FSG have sold a minority stake in the Liverpool to Dynasty Equity, said to be something in the region of 100-200m GBP.

I can't say I am thrilled to have the club part-owned by equity partners. On the other hand, the good news (if reports are accurate) is that the investment is being used to pay off pandemic debt, fund ongoing stadium development, and pay for recent transfers. So the intent is to avoid carrying debt while also not selling the crown jewels, as FSG will retain full control of club operations. Further (again, if reports are accurate), this is claimed to be the end of FSG's interest in bringing in new investment through the sale of minority stakes in the club (or, indeed, a full sale of the club).

It's not an ideal ownership situation, but it is more transparent than most at this level and the deal was done without the kinds of drama or buffoonery we've come to expect from many club owners.

What was once one of the most admirable clubs in world football is now a pathetic, hopelessly corrupt joke.
It’s actually awful to see it happen. Can they possibly stoop any lower? State ownership, I suppose, but for a club that ostensibly represents a people seeking statehood that would surely be beyond the pale.

But at this point I wouldn’t put anything past them.

Absolute sh*t show at SWFC...

Horrible. The more money there is sloshing around the game, the more we will see these charlatans running things like little princes.

The thin-skinned narcissism of some of these individuals is breath-taking.

If your professional life consists of your staff unable to express anything but deference or sycophancy, you tend, not just to develop an appetite for this, but to assume - somehow - that this is the norm, and that this is how everyone should and ought to behave around you at all times.

For such people, it can come as a profound shock to experience anything else.

Villa currently decimating Brighton. Granted they've had some favourable calls.
Wow.

Three nil up (and ahead) against the Seagulls?

And all scored in the first half?

Brighton are a very good team, well run, and well coached.

That will be an excellent result, if they can hold out - or, hold on - during the second half (which has just commenced).

3-1 now. Fight back on?
I'd be surprised if Brighton didn't mount - or try to mount - a decent comeback.

Three nil down at half time is not what I would have expected from them.

Actually, I hadn't realised the score - too busy putting away market shopping, putting on a wash, preparing coffee - until I returned here, and took a quick look here (rather than actually checking results).

I'm sufficiently old school to think that (unless Arsenal are playing at some obscenely earlier hour, and, even then, the farmers' market may well occasionally take precedence over that, if need, necessity, hunger and greed - not to mention decent weather offer robust reasons to favour the alternative) I do not need to pay much heed to football until three o'clock on a Saturday afternoon, and still lament the fact that we are compelled to endure the horror of Monday evening matches to suit TV schedules.

4-1. Game over me thinks

Watkins has played a blinder
Wouldn't be surprised to see Brighton pull another goal (or two) back, as there are still more than twenty minutes to go.

Nevertheless, I don't see them claiming a point, let alone capturing an unlikely (at this stage) - a vanishingly unlikely - victory.
