I wonder if goalposts could be fitted with a camera that once fitted could withstand the force of a ball hitting the post because it seems to me there has been a rise in cases where goals have been scored from what appears to be balls crossing the outside line of the posts but the current camera's are not able to see the ball properly because it is being blocked by the players body.
A sensor in the ball and on the line like they use at the World Cup would be an easier solution.
I don’t think there are more instances of it. Just far more camera angles, slowed down footage and analysis.

Watching some of Arsenal's (women) matches.
I couldn't believe they could miss Champions League. But they did.
They are better than that, for sure. All have bad days, bad times.
Some great player's I like there though, some players and the trainer are Swedes.

It feels like they're often just 'nearly' challengers. Maybe Emma Hayes vacating Chelsea will give them impetus to seize control of the WSL.

A very dear friend, and WEDNESDAY supporter passed away after fighting gallantly, and finally succumbing to cancer this week. RIP "Beastie". You will be missed.

Elsewhere, unfortunately, Manchester City defeated Sheffield United by two goals to nil, while Crystal Palace were victorious against Brentford, (whose form is a growing cause for concern) winning by three goals to one.

ETH is a dead man walking. Not sure if INEOS has an interim manager in mind already, but it's just not working and shows no signs of sustainable progress. I think it's only a question of when.

Many seem to be seeing Newcastle as favorites against Liverpool tomorrow. Both teams have big players missing; Newcastle will play a chippy counterattacking game and try to wind Liverpool up again. Liverpool will have to be the proactive side and it does represent a risk agains this opponent. Newcastle are fast on the counter and defend well.

Here’s hoping we can take three points off the PIF Posse….

As we discussed before, I don’t think ETH is the main problem, but equally the mood has turned sour and there is no consistency. Whatever chance he might have had of succeeding in the longer term is gone now. Man Utd have posted a some good results here and there but also lost matches to weak opponents. The manager always goes first and INEOS will be under immediate pressure to do something.

The Glazers aren’t going anywhere though. Will they really let INEOS run the football? Will it be an improvement? Still an era of uncertainty but one assumes INEOS can hardly do worse than the Glazers at any rate…

I am not sure that ETH is the problem, although his (at this stage, almost inevitable, I suspect) removal will be portrayed as a part of the solution.

Still, it is easier to fire one person than eleven.

However, that will not solve Manchester United's many problems, which long predate the arrival and appointment of ETH to the position of manager.

Must say that it has been a pretty underwhelming Christmas/New Year period for Arsenal.

Following the defeat by West Ham, it appears that we are now trailing Fulham - in what looks to be a fairly dreadful, disjointed, disorganised, incoherent performance - by two goals to one.

Dear me.

Meanwhile, (and I am not one of those odious Arsenal types who thrill to the sound of disaster at Spurs, or recoil with horror when they do well), Spurs lead Bournemouth by three goals to nil.

Fulham are good. They have been inconsistent, but then again everyone has been this season. I don't think leaking two goals to them is a disaster, but Arsenal didn't offer enough in front of goal today.

There is definitely more separation now between the top five and the rest of the league, but still a long way to go. With AFCON coming up, cup/European competitions continuing, and and injuries a problem for most teams, it's going to be hard for teams to pick points up consistently. Now is when every squad in the league will need at least one or two bench players to step up and deliver solid starting performances for several weeks on end.

Which should help the top 5 pull away more. Bigger more capable squads.

That’s how you win the Premier league these days. You have to either be exceptionally lucky with squad health and other teams having an off-year (eg Leicester) or you need the equivalent of 1.5-2 squads worth of starting quality players on your roster. And even then you also still need to be lucky with injuries.

Indeed. Take Villa who are currently punching above their weight. As soon as they lose their first choice players to injury or suspension, the second string quality just isn’t there. We have the same problem.

Arsenal should probably now focus more on maintaining top 4 than winning the league.

Same pattern as last year, undone at Anfield and against West Ham who is turning out to be their bogey team.

Odegaard, Martinelli have been poor. Saka can't carry the team all the time. They look bereft of ideas.

Spurs now only 1 point off top 4 despite having suffered notable injuries.

Liverpool look to be the only title challengers now.

But City's dressing room will be a lot more relaxed after this weekend, regardless of Liverpool's result tomorrow.

Jan/Feb will likely be decisive at the top and bottom.

I don’t mind being Arsenal’s bogey team!
I think there will still be plenty of twists and turns in the title race yet.
At least it’s not just one team running away with it.

We'll see. There are a lot of matches left to play, and the top 5 are separated by 6 points. That's not much, and all the teams in positions 5-10 have proven dangerous, if less consistent, opponents. Even Luton has sprung a few surprises so I feel like this season is still impossible to predict. Liverpool have an opportunity to take this challenge deep into the season if there are no more major injuries and everyone else remains inconsistent.

With the caveat that Man City are still heavy favorites to win the league. A six point gap is nothing to them. Liverpool will likely drop a lot more than six points between now and May. But there is still time for any of the top 4-5 to run away with the title, at least on paper.
