Possibly. But it’s also extra games. Unless you win it can just cost you league points. Depends on the size of your squad, injuries and suspensions etc.
Yes, it is extra games, and can cost you time and points, but, notwithstanding all of that, I think that clubs from lower divisions regard the cup as an adventure, and reaching quarter-finals, or semi-finals, or, even the final, as an astonishing achievement.

This is what the romance of the game is all about.

Personally, I love to see them do well, although, experience has unfortunately demonstrated that if they do succeed in reaching the finals (unless you are merely one division lower, and, these days, even that is usually a proverbial bridge too far), that this tends to give rise to a regrettably rather one-sided contest.

However, the cup also generates income (very welcome income), for lower division clubs, and gives them valuable experience of playing against higher ranked teams (plus confidence), and serves to help build club traditions, myths and legends, especially if they obtain a result (a draw, a victory) against a higher ranked club.

And, it does allow space for experiments, trying out new things, in players, positions, tactics.

Absolutely love to see non league clubs get through to the third round. That sort of game can fund a small team for 2-3 years.

Be cool if we'd win, be cool if we lost and could just focus on staying up... We just got beat by them 4 matches ago...
Your boys really spanked Cardiff today. So more cup distractions to come!

West Ham have put out a pretty strong side in the FA cup against Bristol City.
A goal up courtesy of Bowen after 4 minutes.
Sadly Paqueta has gone off injured though.

I saw bits of two minor ‘cupsets’ this weekend with Maidstone knocking out Stevenage and Wrexham beating Shrewsbury. Though Wrexham, despite being in League Two, are really a midtable-plus League One side in terms of players and payroll so that’s less of a surprise.

Maidstone’s stadium is so small you could hear the manager shouting obscenities at the ref the whole match, which was amusing.

Arsenal-Liverpool up soon. Liverpool are seen as slight favorites but I expect this to be a tight match.

Klopp has put out a full-strength side, accounting for injuries and absences, so Liverpool are taking this completely seriously.

Arsenal’s numbers are impossible to read off their all-white kits on the TV feed. Liverpool are in their hideous purple third kit.

No Virgil due to illness, so it’s not quite an A-team today but still the strongest side Klopp has available.

Arsenal are a team that can be daunted by early goals so I’m sure Liverpool will want to create early pressure….but the match has started off a little cagey. Arsenal are trying to be patient and hold on the to ball, and make Liverpool defend. I expect to see Liverpool try some longer diagonals to Nunez. We’re going to miss Szoboszlai’s creativity against a strong Arsenal midifield.

I don’t believe we use our software to select the kits for the cup, just the league. But I agree the numbers are not the easiest to read (but actually don’t have a problem with the campaign Arsenal are promoting with this kit), and yes Liverpool do not look good in the purple.

Yes, I have no complaints about the campaign, but there is nothing to ‘pop’ on camera. The shirt needs a contrasting collar and solid numbers.

The kit section process is interesting - does everyone use the same software?

No. The Premier League do. As do the Women’s. The original reason we were approached was to do with exactly this issue. Numbers not being recognised against similar coloured shirts.
So we wrote some software that measures the colours on the shirts and picks the ones each team will wear.

A bit drab so far. Arsenal are doing a very good job of stifling Liverpool, and are definitely the better side so far. But most of their creativity has resulted in half-chances. Still, making Liverpool’s patched-up defense work hard is a good plan. We often concede.

I think ‘Pool will need at least two goals to win this.

Does it account for the ref’s color options as well? I remember that being an issue before with teams sporting a black kit.

100%. We receive all the refs kits, goalkeepers and players kits at the start of every season for measuring.

No, not only do I have a problem with the campaign that Arsenal are promoting with this kit, I wholeheartedly support it - and, moreover, would be more than happy to see it as their second kit (for, I quite like the colour combination on their third kit) with that hideous and quite horrid psychedelic yellow thing ditched, instead.

Agree with you both about the visibility of numbers.

However, while we are pressing well, as per usual, we are failing to convert any of those (half-decent) chances, and are being profligate and wasteful.

That will come back to back to bite us, in the second half, as it usually does, these days.

If we can’t beat a Liverpool side without Salah, Endo, Thiago, Robertson, Van Dijk, Matip, and Szoboszlai at home, then i think we should forget any title talk and hope we maintain top four.

Also seen that KDB is back for City so they're primed to go on a 15 game run.

Bored of this season already.

Liverpool have scored, which does not remotely surprise me.

Also, we have not scored, (despite God knows how many shots on target), which, equally, does not remotely surprise me.

Oof, scrappy OG puts Liverpool ahead. They’ve been the better team in the second half but it is still a very tight match. Both teams look below their best.

Maybe ten minutes to go or so.

Agreed.

Actually, I am beginning to think that the tinkering (and injuries) of this season have meant that the team - as currently constructed, or structured - may well have passed its peak.

Can't see us actually putting the ball into the net.

I think - as I have thought from the outset, and, as I have already observed from half time - that you will scrape it.

On our current form, we'll be doing well to retain a top four place.
