it sure would be nice to get new health sensors, eg blood pressure but I think that is a long shot and not going to happen this year.
And Ultra will get updated, only the SE does not get updated yearly (a la iPhone) so why would Apple not upgrade the top tier watch???

My wish for the next AW:
No interference with my iPhone and AirPods Pro.

Using my 12 PM and AirPods Pro#2:
no interference.
Using my 12 PM and AirPods Pro#2
and AW SE:
interference 3-4 times a day.

Anyone who wants to buy a AW SE 44 MM Space Grey in mint condition?🤣

Can apple make a watch that does everything my 10 year old garmin can do?

Seriously add ant+ integration or support Bluetooth sensors like external heart rate, left right power meters, cadence sensors, radar sensor, etc.

Is it too much to ask for a watch made for real athletes? Ultra only added all day battery life. One check mark.
Athletes aren't the target market which is why it sells so well....

I think that either longer battery life or even faster charging speed would be a great and reasonable improvement. New health sensors would be nice, but we are still a few years away from that I believe. A new chip would be great if it can improve the energy efficiency of the watch and give us a few more hours

I really do want to upgrade my Series 4. The always on display released a few years ago was tempting but not really a big improvement over the 4. So alas, I keep waiting on some sort of notable upgrade. It looks like the 9 still may not have it. I keep hoping for a nice display, sensor or processor bump. Luckily my 4 is doing great!
same here, series 4, have not seen major update or innovation since then. Would consider 9, if blood pressure function were added.

The only health sensor that I'd like, although it probably wouldn't be enough to make me upgrade from my Series 7, is blood pressure. It must be doable since Samsung managed.

In any case, I think the Apple Watch really needs two things: better battery life and more intelligent software.

Way to tease on the blood glucose monitoring feature. Got all excited when I saw “viable” and “functional” and then they had to throw the “years away” comment in.

That plus blood pressure monitoring would be a huge feat.

Sounds like a nothing burger. If it ends up that way then there isn’t really a compelling reason to upgrade if you even have watch 4 or higher.
Yep... My series 4 will not last until the series 10 with its original battery. It has a few dead pixels in the top right of the display so I doubt Apple will replace the battery, so I may pick up a discounted series 7/8 if I can find a good deal.

The AW SE has the sweet spot in features for the price.
A year old 7 or 8 is a better buy than the SE strictly for the fast charging especially if you sleep with your watch. A quick 10-15 minute charge AM and PM and that’s all I need with working out. If I go on a run without the phone (I have the cellular watch) then a good half hour will do the trick except on race day.

You're probably right. The only feature I'd somewhat miss (not that I use it often) is ECG, and the slightly larger screen on the 7+ models would be nice, but by no means essential. I suppose a few years with the 2nd gen SE would keep me going until a worthy upgrade.

I downgraded to an SE for 2 years. My ECG and Blood Oxygen tests were always good and I didn't care for the always on. Later upgraded to the Ultra and got those features back but use the Ultra as my sleep watch. The fast charging and extended battery was what I liked most about the Ultra for tracking my sleep. Someone did a really impressive review of the sleep mode on the Apple Watch against real medical equipment so that helped my decision too.

The S6, S7, and S8 processors were based on the A13 E-cores on the 7nm node while the A14, A15, and A16 moved to 5nm/4nm. My guess is that the S9 will be based on the A15 or A16 E-cores on the 5nm/4nm node now that the A17 will be on 3nm. This will likely net us some good battery life gains.

It would take an act of God to get me to upgrade my series 6. Still lasts all day and through a 2 hour workout/run or a several hour bike ride.

Don't care about fast charging.

My bet is on A15 E-cores, but maybe we'll get a 4th year of chip rebranding.

I bought a Series 4 brand new after the series 5 came out. For me it woks great and I will replace it whenever it needs to happen which at this point could be awhile. Not going to lie I hope I an use this until Sept 2024 at the earliest.
