The S6, S7, and S8 processors were based on the A13 E-cores on the 7nm node while the A14, A15, and A16 moved to 5nm/4nm. My guess is that the S9 will be based on the A15 or A16 E-cores on the 5nm/4nm node now that the A17 will be on 3nm. This will likely net us some good battery life gains.
The nm jump is what I’ve been waiting on to upgrade personally. Really hoping it turns out this year. If not, my pockets will be alright with that.

The only reason I was going to upgrade last year is my Series 6 battery doesn't hold a charge nearly as long - can't get through 12 hours if I'm even slightly active - but thought I'd tough it out another year and HOPE for some battery life love if nothing else.

Sounds like I'll just buy the 8 when everyone starts deep discounting at the end of the Summer.

My wish for the next AW:
No interference with my iPhone and AirPods Pro.

Using my 12 PM and AirPods Pro#2:
no interference.
Using my 12 PM and AirPods Pro#2
and AW SE:
interference 3-4 times a day.

Anyone who wants to buy a AW SE 44 MM Space Grey in mint condition?🤣
by interference, do you mean when the watch hits an achievement for the day and kicks your blood earphones off and turns the speaker on your iphone on instead and then takes forever to connect back???

EVERY TIME I will be listening to some podcast at a sensitive point - and famil with kids will hear about masturbation in a CT scanner (it was a medical podcast where they were trying to identify the impacts of sex on the brain) or a true crime pod cast where it with blurt out some grotesque detail.

I see people are finally coming around to the fact that Cook and Apple do two things very well.

1) Raise Prices
2) Offer you less.

Apple is dying much like Marvel is. All things come to an end. Truly hope a new competitor comes in with a new phone. Elon, where you at bruh?
As long as people pay, they will charge it.

If people ever stopped paying Apple Tax, Apple could cut prices and still make huge margins.

I'm really not seeing the nails or the coffin here for either brand.

Too many years without innovation already. It's become a boring product and the competition has clearly caught up.

Blood glucose has been rumored for 6-7 years already.

What about the "clinic on a wrist" rumor posted here a few months ago ? It would monitor body hydration, electrolytes and alcohol.

What about blood pressure ? Some watches do it and there were rumors 2 years ago https://www.macrumors.com/2021/05/03/apple-watch-blood-pressure-glucose-alcohol/

What about the fat % and body composition ? Samsung watches do it if you give them an initial value, and it works similarly to doing an ECG on the watch. https://www.samsung.com/levant/supp...dy-composition-with-the-galaxy-watch4-series/

What about sleep apnea ? Rumored for years.

What about all those independent studies who mentioned the Apple Watch could be used to detect this or that? (Depression, COVID, Sickle Disease, Arrhythmias and so on and so on)
Blood glucose ain't happening any time soon.

Not in a device the size of an Apple Watch.

Medical Device companies have yet to perfect the tech and that is in devices far larger than a Watch.

The closest FDA approved item is CGM that still requires the end user to wear a patch/sensor that uses interstitial fluids in the skin.

Apple already has two unreliable sensors "not for medical use" in blood oxygen and temperature (that are both terribly inaccurate). Things just are not there yet. Both of those had years of hype and expectation and might as well not even be in the watch at all for as useful as they are.

As an owner of a Series 4, I see only one reason to switch to a 9: if my current device stops working.

I intended mine to be a phone replacement so I cut down on screen time, and it had been so bad at bluetooth to any headphones but Apple’s own that I gave up on the idea.

Now if they do manage a glucose monitor… I’ll buy it even if it is pocket-size. Even if it is the size of a walkie-talkie.

This is a good point. The complaining that there really hasn't been a big upgrade since the S5 is annoying. If the technology does not exist, it does not yet exist.

I am hoping Apple finally makes some significant improvements with the processor + faster, more efficient memory.

If you’re waiting for the “established” medical device companies, you’re going to wait a looong tine…
Sensors are still in early stages but they will continue to improve, but also don’t kid yourself thinking that Apple will bring these capabilities to a consumer watch, your “normal” AW will not become a medical device that has FDA approval and such. When the technology is ready it will fit into an AW but will sell at 5-10x the price, and that will still be a bargain for those who need CGM…

What about all the rest of my post?

Blood oxygen - I'll give it to you.
Temperature sensor - at least they found a proper usage for an unprecise sensor.

The temperature sensor on my Oura Ring is spot on though - so yes, reliable technology exists in this domain. I wish Apple had exactly the same thing in the watch.

Love my series 6.

Can't see what they could do here that would make me upgrade unless medical uses expand significantly.

Frankly I've given up on the Apple Watch being anything than a fitness/health tracker, some simple Siri actions, and for displaying notifications that let me know if I should pull out my iPhone or not. All the other functions/apps just haven't been very good for me. So at this point I just want it to have multi-day battery and for the aluminum model's screen to have better scratch resistance.

What apps/features do you use on the Ultra for competitive shooting? 🤔

I wish Practiscore was available on AW's but no joy nor am I optimistic about other shooting apps ever happening on AWs.

That said the always on display (on every AM) gives me the ability to glance for texts/email on the larger Ultra display that may need a timely response when shooting (dry, live fire or matches) plus when cycling or swimming as the phone stays in a pocket.

Apple wouldn’t be slowed down by trying to make such small iterations—they could focus more energy on making one better product rather than two

Good point, but I don’t that product frequency is delaying features, I think it’s just technical advancement. I could be wrong.

Marvel went from grossing $750m-$1billion per movie to squeezing $500million on their important characters.

No one is watching the shows like they thought people would be. Thats what happens when you divert your attention else where. The quality of your movies/script decline and after 2 years the fans have moved on.

Apple has consistently let down their customer base for over 5 years now. ****, for 10 years if you ask me. Now people are holding onto 4 year old phones and products and the rest will follow suit, especially with inflation and people realizing what a con-artist Cook is.

Bull.

We've got the best Apple products that we've ever had. There was a bumpy road for a few years, but they've gotten past that and are churning out industry-leading products on all fronts.

Consumers can't demand feature-after-feature-after-feature, and not expect there to be some software glitches introduced as a result. Bugs are ironed out with stability, like during the 10 years of Windows XP.

There's nothing wrong with continuing to use devices that are still working perfectly good. My last MacBook Air (2013) lasted me 8 years and is still going strong. My first iPhone (3G) lasted 5 years, and then a hand-me-down iPhone 4S lasted me several years **after** it was no longer the current model. That represents Apple's success more than anything else. Reliability.

Love how we expect apple devices to have new grandstanding features every year - I dont see the same critique for Sony and their xm3 / 4/ 5 or even better the PS5 and latest xbox with their complete lack of next gen exclusive games or the microscopic improvements in the latest Honda with a macroscopic price rise btw...

As an apple user since 2002 and with a still working cMacPro amongst other current apple tech I could not be currently happier with their current line up (bar where is the lossless audio ? )

Surely they'll introduce something new to the watch this year and not just a different colored Ultra.

I guess it also depends on what you use the watch for. For many women still in the age range to have children then temp sensor (if accurate enough) would be highly beneficial. Some countries still need you to check your temp before you enter work etc.

Even if iterative then some folks will be interested with just a small upgrade, but for most of us on here, it won't be very exciting.

Sounds like I continue to use my series 5. I need to get a new battery for it. Any tips on how to get one? I took it to Apple and they were like we will charge you $300 so you might as well get a new watch. This was conflicting with my understanding of their repair website which said it would be like $75 for a new battery…
Your watch battery health needs to drop under 80% for Apple to honor battery service. I used the battery replacement service on my S4 last year no problem. What is your watch battery health?
