I think HTC sort of felt pressured to increase the screen size, especially since Samsung have gone ape crazy pushing out phones with 5"+ screen sizes left right and centre.

Unfortunate trend. Hopefully Apple doesn't go that route.

I'm kind of surprised so many like the redesign. Aside from not liking it being bigger I think the device looks less premium with its more rounded design and the removal of the chamfered edges. Also would have preferred if they didn't ape the 5S colors. Unless those are the only colors you can successfully anodize aluminum in.

Just left Verizon.

I don't know. Is BoomSound really that great? The store wasn't filled with people, I played some YouTube videos at full volume and wasn't blown away. I'm interested in speaking voices versus music. For podcasts. I don't know. I expected much more.

Phone feels great in hand. Looks stunning too. Wish it wasn't so tall. Much prefer the height of the M7. Curved edges though feel much nicer in hand.

I'm either going to get the N5 or this. Off contract. Leaning towards N5 right now and using headphones almost always. Prefer the size and weight of the N5. Will decide soon.

As for the reviews, camera clearly is the weakness. I'm not convinced the M8 will do anything to stop HTC's decline. For shame.

Looks like Gold/White/Black are the standard colors for smartphones now. I'm kind of disappointed they increased the screen size again. I felt like the 4.7" on the One was more ideal.

Unfortunately this phone won't be able to bring them back to glory. It looks like a very nice phone though. Excellent design.

Beautiful phone. I'm just a little surprised they didn't even attempt to correct any of the complaints from last years model.

I'm going to have to hold one in store to see how it feels when compared to my nexus 5. Probably won't get it unless I can find it under $100 with upgrade. Hopefully next years one HTC will get the camera, bezel, and battery right.

And added a new complaint - that the phone is a bit too big now. Shame really.

I love BoomSound on my 2013 One. Never struggle to hear anything on it.

But they did. SD card slot. Proper navigation buttons. Tap to wake and swipe gestures eliminates need to use wake button on top.

I just wasn't wowed. I also didn't listen in a quiet room so who knows.

A good camera is a very important feature to totally flop on again. Better luck next year HTC.

The original one was horrible to hold, this is coming from a guy with a s4.

I don't like the gunmetal gray, I prefer the og black of the one. It's also way too tall.

I do like the software enhancements a lot, I want something like this in the future.

My upgrade is may but I may wait for iPhone 6, still kinda miss it.

Next year's One will probably still have an UltraPixel camera.

Should I spend 650€ in a phone with a lower resolution camera than my 10 year old Nokia N95 or my 7 year old Samsung Omnia HD or my 5 year old iPhone 4?

Seriously, this is supposed to be a flagship phone!

Even the Moto G has 5Mpx!!!

Agree on the card slot.

Navigation buttons was an improvement but the wasted bezel space left behind is still there and now serves no purpose.

Gestures don't work when phone is just sitting on a flat surface.

Look at the sensor quality then come back to me. All phones you have mentioned get absolutly stomped on by the M7 camera.

Would it be crazy for me to buy one simply because I like the case :D :D

Somebody please put me in a straight jacket ....

You need to be put into something that gives even more restraint than a straight jacket. :D

Like I'm one to talk. Thank goodness it isn't golf season yet here because new sticks are always so tempting and they cost more than smartphones.

I think most here were just hoping the camera would be lots better but actually in reality they kind of knew it wouldn't be anything great.

My next purchase will be the Iphone 6.

Yeah, I'm now more interested in the next iPhone too after both the S5 & One M8 launches.

Yes, but the camera in the M7 and M8 gets stomped by nearly everything else available in the market today. The gimmicks introduced with the M8 aren't going solve any of the problems experienced with last year's model (and I'm very familiar with the M7, used it as my daily driver for over 6 months). Anybody claiming otherwise either doesn't care, simply cannot discern the difference in quality, or is an HTC apologist.

If someone doesn't care about the performance of their smartphone's camera, that's fine--just don't try to justify it to those of us that do.

The only reason I can think of that HTC continues to use the Ultrapixel sensor is as it was speculated somewhere that they're locked into some kind of longterm agreement with their supplier from which they cannot afford to back out. Any other reason is just poor judgement on their part, though I'd say entering such a terrible agreement was poor judgement from the start.

HTC is just dressing up a pig--focusing on the 'beautifully engineered design' to try to distract from the inherent flaws. The M8 is unnecessarily large (at least Samsung and Sony can blame it on the water resistance/proofing) with a ridiculous bottom bezel meant solely to accommodate their vanity and a incredibly subpar camera. Yes, it's an attractively styled piece of hardware made with great build materials and their software is some of the best available but IMO, still too much form over function.
