I did not find the phone slippery. It is very thin whereby the size of it actually for me makes it easy to handle. Now the iPod touch 5 I had was so thin and small I had to get rid of it.

The camera is a lower priority to me. Performance, comfortability, the screen and audio all come in far ahead.

If those are your priority.......then you will love the M8. It feels great in your hand. Built from premium materials. Has a great screen and is extremely fast and the battery life is awesome. The sound quality is well known......but the camera is good...but just not upto part with today's standard smartphones.

I am thinking strongly now about it. I liked the M7 but funds at the time were a bit limited to keep it and the Note 3 and the 5S. I found myself using the latter two more anyway. And I also have a Moto G and Lumia 521. geez!

If I get it, I would give up the Note 3, not the 5S.

Did you return it?

As touched upon elsewhere, none of the upcoming flagships break new ground. Not the M8, Z2, or S5 anyways. I liked the M7, this M8 other than the camera is better.

I have read reviews from owners that it has zero lag and they find Sense to their liking it instead of running for an alternate launcher.

I did return my M8. But I am in no way going to put it down. The M8 is one of the best phones I have ever had. But in the end....my year old S4 takes better pictures. But as I said the M8 is a very fast phone. The UI is very fast with zero lag. The battery life was very I pressive.....lasting all day for my normal use with 45% left at the end of the day. I use the camera on my smartphones to snap a ton of pictures...then they go straight to Dropbox.
The camera on the M8 is good but not great......I posted pictures here earlier in this thread.

I'm not getting the kind of battery life everyone is describing. I took it off the charger this morning, played Candy Crush for about 10 minutes and it went down to 93%. Is that normal?

Too few here own it to give experiences with battery.

Try XDA, Android Central and Android Authority forums.

removable battery?

What happen to onthecouchagain?

You know come think about is samsung the last company to offer a removable battery (other then some of those crappy prepaid phones)?

Got to play around with this phone for a day and I will say it was very fast. The camera I thought was a little better then last years model. The dual camera with some of the options in regards to that focus tweak you can do after the pic is taken didn't seem to work all that well but that could get better if they do some software updates. Sense 6 did seem very fluid. Phone calls seemed to be very clear and the person on the other end said they could hear me very clearly. Only wish I could have had the phone longer to get a better idea of the phone. My only complaint was that the phone was so tall. It kind of reminded of all the iPhone jokes where they would make fun of the iPhone for going taller and tons of people made paradise of like an iPhone 22 being like ten feet tall. Anyway I did think the build quality did seem solid.

So I guess most people here are waiting for the S5 or Z2?

I'm also waiting for the One Plus and G3. Maybe even the Moto X 2 if and only if it gets a 2600 battery minimum.

I just ordered one. Didn't have an upgrade, but a guy on Swappa was selling a brand new one for $590, which was more than a fair enough price in my opinion. I'll let you guys know my impressions of it when I get it Wednesday!

Dang Aussies have it rough..higher prices and all kinds of creatures that can mess you up lurking everywhere

They don't really have it so bad..

It's €649 off contract here which is $965 AUD .... .

Also factor in that $649 US is without sales tax / state tax - which brings it closer to $700 USD which is closer to $750 AUD which whilst still cheaper is only reflective because the average us sales tax is substantially lower than the VAT duty and then GST added to goods imported and sold in Australia.

Despite that, here it's worse as our VAT is a whopping 23% which is far higher than US or Australia.

Moral of the story - there is always someone getting ripped off more than you :)

Yep just the other night my 11 year old daughter went to put a shower cap on and it had a small
redback spider on it. Very lucky.

23% no thanks. 10% is bad enough:) I remember when GST came in i was talking to this Irish guy and he said you watch it will keep going up. Hasn't yet. There would be blood in the streets:)

I think the M8 is a step backwards design-wise. If you didn't know the specs and I handed you an M7 and M8 you would think the M7 is the next-gen model.

The more I think about and handle the M8 the more I dislike it. I really hope I'm wrong but I think this phone will continue HTC's decline. In fact I'll be shocked if it doesn't.

Problem with HTC is that is quietly brilliant. So much so that the average person thinks the Samsung phones are the ones to own because if Jane/Joe do not have an IPhone, they have a Samsung.

I cannot believe it for a minute for those average folks that the camera is the reason why they do not have an HTC.

Pricing is the US at Verizon for the M8 is $599, not $649.

You know about the camera so other than that you should really like it.

I have been trying it daily at different Verizon stores in my area, I have 4 within 20 miles. While I cannot try everything, it is one helluva phone.

I have to sell my Note 3, I will not buy it before then. My first experience was not good, I told that store their display one is not up to snuff compared to others in the area.

In depth camera comparison between the iPhone 5s and HTC One (M8) over at iMore. I take it with a grain of salt as it is on an iDevice focused site and I haven't read much on iMore so I'm not really familiar with their tone and 'objectivity'. ;)

That being said, I initially saw the article over at Android Central so if they're OK running it, I'm guessing they're comfortable with its content. The comparison does seem fairly objective, at least from my read of it. Not really surprised by the results.

Its a fair review and plays out to the exact experience many of us had with the M7 camera.

Whilst they still don't compare to a digital SLR - for many of us the importance of a decent camera can't be understated.

I begrudgingly gave up my HTC M7 for its weak camera, it pains me that HTC went ahead with the same camera for the M8.

Taken with the Lumia 1520
