sorry to ask, but can someone simply explain the diff types of cases and protection available for the iphone? the market seems saturated and i dont know what to do. just got the phone today. seems very fragile and sensitive,
so i mean do apple recommend any kind of protection?
i tend to throw around my phone in my dirty bag and car and carry in pocket. my nokia took some wear and tear and handled it very well. iphone doesnt look as strong, and i dont wanna test it either as its so expensive.
so im looking for protection in case i drop the phone on the floor.
also do we need to protect the screen from everyday use/dust build up?
or is phone best used with nothing on the screen?
im thinking maybe a full case that flips open to reveal the naked screen.
so when its closed, the whole phone is protected. i live in a dusty environment so....
thanks.
oh and i def dont want a case that scratches the phone, as ill be selling it on once i decide to buy a diff/new model in future.
Probably too late for you Bob2131 but as these were my questions 6 months ago forgive me for chipping in. You might consider modifying your habits if you really want to keep your iPhone in top condition.
Dust:
A flip top or book type case will not totally protect from dust.
Any case subject to dusty conditions requires dusting off before being opened otherwise debris may fall onto the iPhone when it is used. If any part of the iPhone is visible the dust is already halfway to doing it's damage.
I make my own dusty environment machining wood and doing masonry work. I now use a book style case, which doubles as my Wallet holding iPhone/cash/cards/ID/etc., which is clip mounted on my belt and covered by a sweatshirt which fully covers the wallet and pulls in tight to my shorts/trousers below it. This apparel acts as a filter and is changed dependent on conditions but always daily.
The Otterbox might be good in dust situations but I do not have personal experience of the product.
Dropping:
Any form of case is liable to be dropped and there is no guarantee that there will not be a sharp projection in just the wrong place which could do serious damage. Working at height or frequenting elevated locations where dropping the iPhone could definitely be disastrous, even if it lands on a smooth surface, needing the protection of a restraint. A restraint could be in the form of a Lanyard or Wallet Chain, which leaves the problem of fastening to the iPhone to be resolved. Because I often work outdoors and from ladders, so liable to have cold hands during winter, and being somewhat street wise a Wallet Chain is my current choice of protection. Losing my iPhone Wallet would be a serious setback so the Wallet Chain is secured by a snap hook to a chain loop which passes over my shoulder and under the opposite arm. Surplus length of the Wallet Chain slips into my side pocket and allows unhindered use of the iPhone at ear level. This setup makes for a workable drop, slash and snatch resistant setup. To enable the use of the Wallet of choice a small plate was fitted [to the Wallet] to anchor the chain and house the Belt Clip Button.
If you want to retain the sleek minimal look of the iPhone protection with Invisible Shield or BestSkinsEver film protection and perhaps a Lanyard secured by the device written about above which locks into the Charging Port may be suitable? In dusty conditions you may need a zippered pocket to hold the iPhone or wear it around the neck underneath clothing.
