This is my fave case from Speck the Fabshell. previously had the white candyshell.

PS. is it too girly for a dude?

This just re-kindled my interest in the Tones. Thanks!

Have you had any issues with the camera cutout wearing out like some posts report?

Yes, about 10% of the black has worn, but not all the way through. Anyhow, I remove the case, and touch it up with a black sharpie pen from Staples/CVS. No big deal, considering the value of the rest of the case. It looks fine and never had any flash issues. I notice with the Sheer case, the is a gap between the phone and the case by the camera opening, so dust gets in; the Tones is flat. Also the Sheer (which I like and use btw..like the lime green..easy to find the phone) has a camera opening way too large...not necessary on the 5 like it was on the 4/4S.

Have to agree with you guys...the SwitchEasy Tones sure has the right look and from what you guys are saying, the right thinness and is sturdy enough. Still one flaw for me though is the bottom lightning port opening is not large enough to accommodate the 30 pin to lightning adapter sold in Apple Stores...so sad otherwise I would buy one myself.:(

100 grit sandpaper and about 5 minutes work on the Apple 30 pin to Lightening CABLE connector does the trick. Then you are good to go. I made three of them for family. Easy solution.

Your work looks pretty good and if I had the cables, I would probably do the same. However, I have multiple iHome clocks, Bose systems, and others that I use the adapter so that I do not have to repurchase very expensive products and do not want my iPhone just lying on/around them using a cable. I am frustrated with case makers or Apple for not working together for the customer in making cases/adapters that are compatible with each other. I feel that they are all working together to keep us buying and re-buying their products and I just dont want to replace things that work perfectly fine every time Apple gets a twitch in their sphincter to change something. We the consumer, are the ones that get shafted and they make the bucks. Frustrating :(

+1
Of the 25 cases I've had over 4 phones, this Tones has it all. Perfect fit. No large lip overlap but has lay on the table. Firm in hand. Doesn't lose shape with repeated removals. Looks smart and very thin. Doesn't collect dust underneath.

I've had over 50 cases over 4 phones and the Tones is perfect. It has all of those things :)

Yes, but not by much. About 1 mm, maybe a bit less.

They are both good cases.

EDIT: the sheer is also about 1-2 mm wider and longer too.

Don't think so, the Tones is thicker. I examined both.

Nope I put them side by side last night. Thickness wise they are the same or Sheer thicker. Sheer is definitely wider and taller.

Not much to worry about tho

Cant decide between the Speck Candyshell, Switcheasy Tones, or Belkin Candy sheer. which offers the best protection from cratches and drops? which is just overall the better case?

Just got my poetic atmosphere today and I like the look of this case already, almost broke a nail taking it off but gets use to. Fits perfectly with my screen protector no bubblings. Would look better on a white iPhone imo but still very sleek looking on the black.

Could you please take a close up of the port end so I can see if it will accommodate the adapter???

I understand your frustration...been there. I think the only case that will work for you, is one that has no bottom protection, which normally means no top either. Or one that the case comes off easily.

Man I miss this case :(

Any one know why so many cases have a larger cut out for the camera then others? Im thinking maybe the early cases dident get good specs from apple.
3 on the top are recent purchases, two on the bottom were launch day cases.

Partly because apple didn't give 'general' specs until late in the 4 series. Partly because some case makers didn't understand optics or use optical principals for the designs. And then the 5 design changed for the better.

How big an opening one needs depends on the back case thickness and the flash and lens placement.

Some don't use a black rim on the case edge. Some don't need it.

Many, many cases have too small an opening for the case thickness. For the thinner cases some openings are too large. For example, the opening on the iPhone 5 Candy sheer is larger than necessary.

So there is a mixture of sizes, some just to play it safe.

The magpul iPhone 4 case flash openings are too small. The Switcheasy Tones iphone 5 opening is good.

I need a stylish but protective iPhone 5 case. I have an Otterbox defender, but my iP5 slides around in it. I was looking at the Trident Cyclops and Kraken series; any suggestions?

Can anyone recommend a case that has good grips on the side where the phone won't slide out of my hand if not putting a death grip on it?

Thanks in advance.

It was a guideline to casemakers from apple so the case doesnt affect flash
