Otterbox Defender, etc.

I've been snooping around blogs and whatnot trying to get to the bottom of things. Which of these is the best idea?

I've seen several impressive videos and articles about the Otterbox Defender, but I wonder if it's not overkill [and maybe too bulky]. I am the type that doesn't like a lot of dings and scratches, so maybe it's not. I've heard some stuff about dirt getting inside of crystal cases and causing damage, but I don't think anyone denies that they are the most beautiful. The Contour Showcase seems to be a little bit of each, and I wonder if it is the best of both worlds or the worst. Finally, I'm intrigued by a case made by Cozip, a soft polycarbonate case, but it seems to only protect the back. Thoughts?

Any feedback would be great.

iskin revo all the way
Thanks for the feedback. The iSkin was actually one of the first options I checked. However, the removable pieces and parts are a bit too much for me [the faceplate and rubber plugs]. I tend to lose movable parts. Appreciate the suggestion, tho.

I've gone NAKED...

yes, the InvisibleShield has found my iPhone after all these months. I started with a rubber/silicon MarWare case; then the Belkin Acrylic Clear Case and then saw the InvisibleShield demo (ZAGG.COM) at Macworld '08, SF and decided to take the plunge. Every time someone would trade their old case for a "free" InvisibleShield, the sales force would yell "Steve is going NAKED!" and the always present crowd would scream and cheer (Macworld '08 South Hall). The wait was the only difficult part, at about 90 minutes, since I was #10 in the line of iPhones to have the new InvisibleShield put on for me at their booth. I'm not sure I could have done such a great job as they did, but I felt the $20 price should include "installation" by a professional. I've gone NAKED, but I still find myself using my Belkin Acrylic Clear Case (during the viewing of videos), due to the InvisibleShield being thin enough to fit perfectly into my Belkin Acrylic Clear Case. Thanks ZAGG.COM for the awesome work and awesome NAKED shield!

leather cases

Hey guys, I just bought my iPhone and I'm inquiring about leather cases but I've heard that you can customized a case with name and I just can find any company that allows that......

Any suggestions will be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

You can try Vaja. They do allow customizing, however, they are expensive.

I hope this helps.

I have been through 2 cases here in the last 2 months
Here is my "mini review" for what it's worth
1. Contour Clear Case with a Crystal Film on front:
http://www.contourcase.com/showcase/showcaseiphone/ and
http://www.powersupportusa.com/products/iphone_filmset.php
Pros: Protects the entire phone from impact, doesn't scratch any part of the phone, clear back so you are still able to see about 70% of the phone, nice holster that allows quick flip back to see who is calling, easy to insert and remove the phone, access to all of the ports, and speaker, belt clip/holster is included, rubberized feel to outside edge doesn't slip in your hands, clip rotates 360 degrees.

Cons: Bulky, heavy, traps dirt in between the front of the case and phone as well as the back, once it wears in the phone becomes a little loose in the case, clear plastic scratches easily, ear piece hole is a little too large.

2. SwitchEasy: Capsule and Vision Clip
http://www.switcheasy.com/iPhone.htm and
http://www.switcheasy.com/VisionClip.htm
Pros: Holds iPhone securely, protects entire phone, clicking mechanism holds top and bottom together, extras included (head phone mini connector, 3 total overlays 2 black and 1 red, small insert to protect sync connector) looks really good in white or black, easy to insert and remove, much slimmer and lighter weight than the contour, vision clip holster is comfortable not too large and has a window to see time, or who is calling (purchased separately)

Cons: Expensive, vision clip must be purchased separately, traps dirt, a little slippery, clip only rotates 180 degrees, lost the sync connector insert in 2 hours, clear overlay system is not without flaws; traps bubbles and small gap between the screen and the insert makes the touch surface feel awkward

I may try the Capsule removing their clear insert and replacing with the Crystal Film and see how that feels.

Most likely I will just order something from vajacases.com

I have had an Invisible Shield, bestskinever but the best of them all is the BodyGuardz. It is scratch proof & has a better clearer finish than the other 2. You also get 2 skins in a pack. Check it out here http://www.bodyguardz.com/Apple_Phones_s/66.htm

It looks like an advantage that the back piece extends up the sides to the chrome bezel as opposed to having the extra (separate) fiddly bits of the other brands.

Getting two sets per pack is excellent too.

My Question is about the Qase Flip 2 or other such cases that use magnets.

Do the magnets have the ability to harm the iPhone over time?

Anyone with the agent 18 black case have scratches or scuffs on the metal right under the home button? They almost look like watermarks or debris, but they won't seem to come off. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks.

This is my flip-top case. I had to carefully cut two small sections in the bottom to uncover the speaker and mike grills. After cutting the sections I sealed the leather with black sealer and it looks as though it was "meant to be".

The case is genuine leather and very well made, and at $115 AU it should be.

I always like the Crystal type cases if I am am going to keep it encased all the time, or a slip-type case if I plan to enjoy the beauty of my iPod now and again... it is nice to hold it naked sometimes.

yay picturessss

:pI have a silicon, black, FOURTY DOLLAR, inCase (pictured); and I absolutely hate it.

iphoneprotectiveblack1.jpg

It stretched out almost imediately, and this happened after I had learned about its tendancy to stretch from simple "wear and tear".

I had the iSkin Revo (pictured) prior to the inCase, and I returned it the next day; it was way too easy for lint to collect on the thing and it stretched out.

Before all of them I had the Marware Sport grip (pictured), but that seemed to be loosened just by putting it on, and returned that the same day.

The one good thing I bought from the Apple store was the Crystal Clear (guess what) screen guard they had for sale; it was $15 and by some osmosis I layed it on perfectly on the first try, no bubbles what so ever.

I am now looking for hard plastic cases, colours do not matter to me any more. The iSee Showcase looks ok.. but I am really looking for something that will remain snug around my iPhone. If you have a suggestion for a *snug* fitting, hard plastic case, let me hear it. It would also be awesome if there was some kind of padding between the case and the phone as well, cloth or what have you. (it doesn't need to cover the front of the phone, as I still have the crystal clear guard on it)

iSee Impressions

I just wanted to toss my two cents in. I have been using the iSee for a few weeks, and I quite like it. Its strengths are mostly in its appearance and protection. It feels very good and snug around the phone, though it does loosen a bit with time (I like it even better now). I take it off nightly, though, because bits of dirt do get under the case, and prove to be annoying sometimes.

The plastic does scratch easily as well, but it does not take away from the phone's aesthetics, in my opinion.

Overall, I feel very comfortable when the phone is inside, and in some ways it actually makes the phone look better, I think. Hope this is helpful.

Yep, this happened to my phone as well with the Agent 18 eco case. I decided to "brush" the chrome bezel as described on another post here. The end result is great, and now all I have on the phone is an anti-glare PowerSupport film.

I've about had it with bulky cases that get gunk and dust stuck in them. I'm planning to pick up an Invisible Shield tomorrow but have some questions.

Firstly, from everyone I've talked to (including Scott Bourne from the Apple Phone Show at the podcast meetup this year) seems to love it and I haven't noticed anyone complaining about the edges coming up/getting lint in them, but is that an issue anyone has experienced?

Other than that I'm pretty excited to get mine and apply it.

Just got my iPhone replaced today due to some issues, so I'm in the market for a new case.

For my old iPhone, I had the black inCase which was TERRIBLE. As mentioned, it stretched out within a few weeks and also dust would get in between the case and the phone and cause the silver lining to get all scratched. Made my phone look terrible.

In any case, I was looking at the vajas (www.vajacases.com). They look really cool despite their higher price. Does anyone know if there are any videos or demos on them? With such a high price, I feel like I would need to see/feel it in person before buying.

Sorry, but ... does that say Calf Skin? I don't think - in a million years - that I would want a dead baby cow's skin surrounding my cell phone. That is just... talk about inhumane... wow. :( Why not hire a slave to carry it around for you while you're at it?

jeese ,thats what baby cows were bred to be,I-phone protective skins and veal of course mmmmmm.Baby cows skin is soo soft. Also a slave to carry it around would be waaayyyy cool.Is someone selling any of those?I would buy one.

The Best Case So Far

I think this is the best case so far. Switcheasy Capsule for iPhone with the clip. The case goes face in on the clip and the clip has a Window so you can see who calls without removing it from the clip.

Comes with Universal dock adaptor, headphone adaptor, 3 screen covers ( but I use the PowerCrystal for now ). Seems like this case gives the best protection, wit the clip even more since the screen is protected. There are so many times I've walked down stairs or hall and accidentally banged into the railings or scraped the wall. I think this is a keeper.
