in the last four years I have owned 2 subarus(2005 sit,2013 sit) along side 2 bmw(2006 330I,2011 335I)
I can definitely tell a difference between the leather used by both companies. Bmw having a huge edge in terms of comfort and leather quality.
Also out of warranty my 2006 330I was at 130k when I traded it in., and thats far out of warranty. Zero issues for 60k daily driven miles.
Both of my STi's had zero issues as well, aside from the crappy factory tires.
I love cars and in my experience I've learned take care of your cars, and they will take care of you. German vs JDM is night and day and if you pay a few more for the performance model in each. They have an even trade off., my 335I is my current car and love love love. But when my 2015 STI shows up I will be rather happy. Subaru has finally caught up with creature comforts and a few lux, items with the Germans.

lol wut???? I put 18,000.00 down on my 2013 STI and it all went to my car., and my apr rate was 1.6%. Not exactly sure how you say the sales guy has my 18k. My balance at time of trade showed otherwise.(after 9 months i only owed 10k lol)

honestly i dont think you can compare the interior in an sti to anything at all. those interiors have been a massive shortcoming since day 1 and are probably the single biggest complaint of owners. definitely not paying for the interior when you buy one of those

No one buys a WRX/STI for a luxurious interior. People buy them because of what they do when you hit the right pedal.

...which is exactly what i said and why i said it wasnt proper to compare to anything in terms of interior quality...

My Sti limited seats were pretty damn amazing!
The Sti/335i performance wise(hitting the pedal) are on par pretty close match. Positives and negatives of owning each. But the 2015 sti/ we'd limited interior compared to 2015 335i., Subaru wins for me.

Fun weekend of motorsports down at the Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona. Saw an epic 6th win for a team in the Prototypes (Ganassi), a win for the C7.R Corvette team in GTLM, ate some great food (found a _crazy_ good Mexican place), had a cool little beachside hotel in south Daytona, did a little polka, even unleashed the Kraken :D Just an awesome weekend.

A few photos :)

Seating is such a looked over attribute in a car, especially in performance vehicles - it really impacts the whole driving experience. I’ve been considering a GT500 and the optional Recaro seats are a “must have” in my opinion.

Also, had a little video of the start of the 24 Hour:

I like my toys. My daily driver for the last year has been my insane VW Golf R. It's a hyper hatchback, been tweaked a little and is now a 3.7s to 60 car, 11.9s quarter mile. Not bad :)

This was it when I got it last year.

And a year on, not as clean, but my current impression.

Oh and our main family car is this little beast. I still can't get over it how it can make 21" alloy wheels look so small.

Any watchers of the British Top Gear? Finally had the time to watch the first episode of the new season. Quite agreed with Hammond on the looks of the Huracan, doesn't look so enticing.

Really well done review, content, great photos, etc. Any actually timeslips, or is that just an estimate? Curious about the MPH.

Outstanding post!

I did. It's just not a Lamborghini, to me anyway. the Gallardo was just so much better.

Yes watched it on BBC hd. I like it, sounds good too.

It sounds nice, but it's just not as good as the Ferrari 458 to me.

It has been tweaked by DTUK using their FSR System. I lost my slips unfortunately and Santa Pod doesn't keep them online. There is a video of a n Audi S3 which is basically the same car, with the same DTUK FSR system on it, on YouTube. He was running it up in Grails in Scotland. The new 2.0T with DSG and 4wd is very very good. Weird thing is that my terminal speed was 112mph and his was 117mph if I recalled correctly.

Nice, I have a MKVI R with some work done. Was interested in the new one, however I wound up deciding to just keep and enjoy this one since it's only a little over a year old and I'd eat it on trade in/resell.

The Stage 1 flashes for the MKVII R are amazing.

Thanks for the followup! That’s quick for that MPH, looks like pretty effective use of the power with the AWD. Very cool. In contrast, I had a car that ran slower ETs than yours, but with a terminal speed in the low 130s :D

Hi everyone! This is my first post on MacRumors, I thought I'd chime in since there seems to be a bit of BMW discussion.

I drive a 2009 BMW 535i xDrive with 86,000 miles on it. My father handed it down to me last year after he bought a 2013 Range Rover Sport HSE. Before the BMW I drove a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. I owned since I got my drivers license back in 2006. I acquired it with 35,000 miles and gave it away with 145,000 miles. I miss the thing, we had a lot of good memories together.

The 535 is an enjoyable car to drive- powerful, agile, well built, comfortable, and well equipped. In 2009 I suspect it was probably the better option between the comparable Mercedes E-Class, Infiniti M, Lexus GS, Jaguar XF, etc... though I view A6 as close contender to the BMW. The BMW has been decently reliable though it has had some fuel delivery and minor electrical issues. Most of the issues were fixed under warranty. On a side note, I think it is comical that BMW recommends oil changes every 15,000 miles, I imagine to try keep the apparent cost of ownership down. I use full synthetic and change it every 5,000 miles- I figure oil is cheap, a new engine isn't.

I'm looking into getting a new car within the next year. While the BMW is great, I don't want to deal with high mileage reliability issues and it's honestly just not what I want be driving. I'm grateful that it was essentially given to me, but it's too pretentious. And while I appreciate all the tech features, iDrive seems increasingly tedious to use. The xDrive does well in the snow, but obviously does not inspire the same confidence I had with my old Jeep with 9" of ground clearance and Quadra-Drive (front and rear limited slip differentials). AWD/4WD is a must for me. I live in New England, frequently drive up to Vermont to ski, and work in healthcare so regardless the weather I have to show up to my job.

I would like to switch back to an SUV for the sake of versatility. I'm interested in some of the diesel options that are out there now (assuming the cost-benefit analysis pans out). I would like to take a look at the Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel and Touareg TDI. What I really like is the Land Rover LR4, if only they had a US diesel option and better reliability.

BMW does offer the X3 28d and X5 35d, but as I alluded to before I'm not overly impressed with BMW, especially these days. I think they're good cars in general, but in the end they're expensive to buy (à la carte everything), expensive to own (repairs, insurance, depreciation), they're becoming dull/boring (lacking character?), I think the competition is moving ahead, and I'm not convinced the quality matches the price tag.

Snow day in Chicago, so it was time to take the A4 Quattro for a spin.
Got dedicated winter tires (Continental ExtremeWinterContact).
It's so much fun to drive in snow.

There's nothing like watching cars with All Season tires spinning their wheels when the stop light turns green.

Oh the joys of winter. :)

Does anyone here listen to the CarPro Radio show? If yes, has anyone here made a purchase through one of the recommended car dealerships with that specific sales person that refers you to? Has anyone heard really gotten a good deal through this process?

thank you,
