I love stories of people driving cars for a decade or more :)
The car is almost 19 years old now. It's so old that the key only works in the doors and ignition and even then, falls out of the ignition often. I have to open the trunk with the release inside the car. Of course Honda redesigned the keys later on to fix that problem.

Haha, but the transmission is still solid, right?

When I get a chance I'll have to post some pics from the LeMay Car Museum I visited in Tacoma, WA. It was a pretty impressive collection- much larger than I thought it would be. It was mostly American makes, though they did have an exotics expose and some German and British makes.

Damage report:

Luckily my 5 hour sit remained today so was able to go home and get the egg off. Well it etched and stained the clear coat. Point of impact has scratched the clear coat.

In the sun though, it is barely noticeable. And the angles and creases may make the Camaro look good, but it certainly can hide where any egg splatter may have gone too.

Though it does look like the most etching/staining is the main splatter location. The spray areas doesn't look too bad. But I will probably spot more damage when I give it a proper wash this weekend( only had time to wash egg off and not give it a rewash as zen suggested)

So not sure on the next step. Whether take it to a detailed and see if he can wet sand and detail as much as the damage away or needing a full on repaint of areas damaged.

Griot's Complete Compound (#10862) works really well, I've removed water stains, swirls, light scratches, firework chaff marks, etc., just by hand, it's safe (vs. more abrasive rubbing or buffing compounds).

Here at Amazon, cheap, so even if it's not as effective as you'd like, it's not much of a waste (though I highly recommend it as part of a detailing kit).

The paint/CC/thickness on modern domestics is kind of ******, so there's not a ton to work with, but a really good, very careful detailer/paint specialist might do the trick.

That's some pricy product right there. £55 on Amazon. Is it much better at getting rid of scratches than say the Color Magic stuff you buy to match your car colour?

Oh geez, yeah, it's only $12.99 USD. It's pretty outstanding, used by lots of high-end detailers (most of the Griot's products are highly regarded), it specifically does not have any kind of pigmentation, it's basically an extremely fine polishing compound.

Thanks. But yeah at this point, I'm going the professional route. It's beyond my skills.

I'm thankful the fact the damage is pure cosmetic. Not dent to the metal, no structural or suspension damage, etc. So nothing to worry about it affecting my enjoyment of driving the car.

$12.99 to £55. That's some exchange rate!
Do you need a buffer with it? Or just elbow grease?

No kidding.

You can use a buffer, you know, with the normal precautions, but I strictly use it with elbow grease - I tend to mostly use it for like little spot treatments (vs. complete surface areas).

... and sticking with satin black. Pretty stoked, these are _beautiful_ wheels. Tires on deck are 275/35-20 and 305/35-20 :D

Paint thickness should be decent in that area of the car. If it were my car, I'd do the wet sand. I wouldn't recommend you do it personally. I never bothered to learn until I bought junk panels from a company offering them and began practicing. Fingers crossed, I've never had to go there.

Back to vehicles, does anyone think a flat red or metallic green would be awful for future resale/trade-in value.

Fantastic polishing compound. I'll often use this prior to a harsher cutting compound and pad just to be on the safe side. Do you have the Rupe's mini polisher, too or the similar Griot's tool. I've got the Rupe's. It's smaller than the Griot unit, allowing you to see the panel surface easily. Works great on tight areas and painted trim/carbon fiber. Also works well when applying a metal finisher. It's more expensive than the Griot, but a little birdy from Rupe's told me they're gonna be running sales soon.

I admire anyone who does satin/matte wheels or paintjobs. Definitely not for me.

I hate when smashed eggs cause structural and/or suspension damage.

It wasn't a chicken egg judging by the yolk and white matter. Maybe if it were an ostrich egg? Those are delicious, though. You'd have to be a fool to egg someone's car with that.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm very impressed with the new RS5. That green debut color is gorgeous, too. Sonoma Green. Brilliance and depth. Puts Piedmont Green Metallic to shame. Would look amazing on a 911 Turbo S. Two things I don't like are the silver finishes on the car's exterior and the vents.

BMW really ought to get their ass into gear and make something of the M4, which I believe is a direct competitor to the RS5. Are the RS models speed limited to 155 MPH like most German vehicles sans Porsche? I know some dealers offer the option to remove it, but do the high speeds stick for the RS models out of the factory and only the S and regular A models are affected?

I don't know if BMW needs to do anything to the M4. The M3/M4 is what it is - and in multiple trims. The Base M4 (with or without ZCP) is for the everyday driver, M4 CS is for those who want to track with daily driver capabilities and the GTS is for the extreme. It sucks you have to pay difference prices but that's what BMW has become. I would be completely satisfied with a 530 but because I need to have a straight-six, I opted for a 540 instead.

Problem with the RS line is the absurd understeer. I wonder if they have fixed that. The reviews of the new model are stellar

I don't really think any changes are required for the M3, M4

It's the BMW motto. Always has been. UDM and all that jazz, though that's gone the wayside since its inception. Merc is similar or was when I ordered my car. Need to spend a whopping amount to get a few extra features you can't get on their lonesome like with Posche. Not sure how it is now, I have yet to see the order sheets for the W213, and the E400 sedan is arriving in a few months. I believe E400 wagon orders began a few months ago. Sedan orders start in July, I believe.

MB Individual lacks compared to Audi's program or even BMW's. They offer some choice, not a lot.

According to reports, the car doesn't understeer like the previous generation. Going by video, engine noise outside, inside, and exhaust note are very nice compared to the BMW. E43 isn't bad either, but I'm not sure if it's meant to be compared to these or the E63 S, which has far more power and more pricey.

I'm not sure if the other two are worried. Doesn't Audi limit the number of RS models each country gets?

When I was a little kid, I loved monster trucks. Bigfoot and USA 1 were popular trucks among my friends, but my favorite was always the Monster Vette, featured in the classic Return Of The Monster Trucks from 1986. I just learned that the Monster Vette sits at some scrap parts yard. Anyone having an idea where this is?

@iLog.Genius Did some reading today on the G30. Will you be getting the MSPPK that will come out for it this summer or the fall? No figures to be found, but it boosts the power and torque quite nicely on the x40i on the F3x models. I also came across a thread that states you can pay for an additional "silencer" to be fitted onto the system so when the flaps are open, it doesn't sound as rough as the F3x's do. It's not surprised that it will be coming to the G30 540i and all derivatives of this mode, since the M550 already has its own system, but is rumored to be getting a similar MSPPK for it, too.

This is with BMW's power figure ratings. No idea what the true power would be. The higher engine options for the 3 series with the exception of a few generations has always been stupid fast for the car. I'm not sure if the M Performance package is required to get this kit as it's separate. Was the Sport Suspension an option on the G30 or has it been merged with the M Sport package? Did you get it?

I hope this is true, although I don't think I could ever reasonably afford a $70,000 automobile.
Never say never. I have no idea how old you are nor does it matter for this post. With the exception of very few things, a lot is achievable on this planet if you put the work in.

Darryl Starbird Museum in Oklahoma.

If you're curious how I did that, I simply Google'd the watermark name, found a DeviantArts page, went through the gallery and poured over the comments. The photos seem to be from 2007. May want to call the museum and see if it's still around and restored or gutted.

When I was younger I went to a couple monster truck events. They weren't terribly common on the coast. Great fun, too. Often left me semi-deaf for weeks. LOL

The build I was going for did not include the performance pack. My build seems to have hit snag. I don't know if it's an allocation issue but I'm unable to finalize/complete my order with the dealer - can't send it off to BMW to have them place the order at the factory. The build/delivery was expected to take two months (not including BMW's annual factory shut down for a week), and with this delay, I don't know how much longer the timing will be delayed. Now we're trying to see if there is a similar build in stock at one of the surrounding dealerships and perhaps pick one of those instead of building one. :(

Thanks for the info! It was probably easier to figure out than I realized:) Need to up my Google detective skills:D
