Have you considered ceramic pads? I put Akebono ceramics on my 330i and while I've the lost initial bite of semi-metallics, they hardly even dust.
I can't speak for sedans, but I've heard enough horror stories of using them on a large, heavy SUV. I opted for ceramic pads on my wife's car. Less dust, but still plenty of dust. As I said, I can't speak for all sedans. Even with lots of dust left, it's less than typical pads. Either that or my wife doesn't brake as much as I hope she does. Dealer offers it as an option. I will not be going for the full carbon ceramic option with my next car purchase. I don't brake enough to generate the heat to be at optimum performance, and the replacement cost should all four need to be done along with pads is a big number to swallow. Even if you're someone willing to spend big money. Most Porsche owners seem to get the CCB option for their higher end 911 and then have them swapped out for steel and then replace with the CCB when they're getting ready to sell. Some of our work clients are amateur racing enthusiasts. Owning a myriad of exotics at that. One regularly destroys his CCBs during regular 2-3 day events. Using the right paint finish solutions, brake dust will very easily fall off the car once you bring a hose to the panel and let the water wash it away. Some of it does find itself into the clear, but claying takes care of that very fast after Iron X'ing it.
We're a good 15-20 years away from CCBs being very economical. The costs involved have dropped considerably over the last 15 years. There is no doubt in my mind that they'll become cheaper by then and possibly standard on a lot of upper segment cars.
As for the dealer, I have no idea what brand of pad it is they use when they offer the ceramic pad as an option. In the time we've had the car, I've yet to spot any OEM rotor damage or warping. Between it and the stock pads, I could never tell the difference in stopping power.
JFC, tires became a chore to track down, an order got cancelled - fortunately my buddies at AM hooked me up, went with Nitto NT555 G2, 305/35-20 in the rear, 285/35-20 in the front, maintains the front-to-rear %, fills in the fender well even a little more, should actually drop the rear ratio a touch, should looks spectacular![]()
I hate that so much. Companies don't even bother to email you until end of day. Sometimes they don't even bother to send out a cancellation notice.
