I should have test drove the SS sedan when I was shopping just to cover my bases. It's massively underrated and largely off the radar for a lot of people, but it's a good vehicle.
It's a neat car. Problem is they didn't make it at all premium outside of the driving dynamics. It's not comfortable enough to be a great day driver for the price and it's not exotic enough to be a real track toy.

It wasn't meant to be a premium car. It's the G8 GXP reborn into a Chevy. I don't think the Aussie's understand "premium"... :p

Yeah, Lexus. My bad.

What's a good Bridgeston or Michelin tire for all weather or just summer, decent grip, nothing fancy. I need to replace some old tires I didn't notice were old from the DOT manufacture date.

Great, but a little too good for their use case. I should have noted the 2IS needs new tires, and that thing gets driven less than 4K a year. I don't quite see the point of getting summer performance tires at $300 a tire. :p

It's funny the cars I don't have pics of, or very many. I found a couple of photos of my GS :D (Mine was a Lexus, had the Lexus sourced suspension, SSR wheels) They're all tiny and at weird distances so might not post ...

Lexus? What's the tire size? Having been through every single brand, spec, etc., I bet I can find something cost effective while retaining the attributes you want.

Is this it?

Yeah, I've got the 18" wheels. Something fairly close to OEM so I don't get rub. Costco's got a Bridgestone and Michelin deal going on on various ranges of tires. The Pilot Sport A/S 3+ is also on sale. They've got W rated Potenzas RE970AS up for grabs, too. $216 for rears and $183 for fronts.

I don't remember what the OEM tires were. I haven't looked at tire rack. As you can tell, I know jack about tires.

I'm going to Costco either later today or tomorrow morning. According to someone in this thread, I'm obsessed with the store. :)

It feels silly paying nearly $900 in service and tires for something that gets driven so little, but I'd rather pay for quality stuff. I'm sure I can make good use out of the current tires or the new ones at the end of their run. You know... having fun in Mexico.

That's it then, look into Sumitomo and Hankook, the A/S options in those lines are very good, and great prices (lots of import owners, M cars, etc., using those brands)

Tire Rack is outstanding, I've been ordering tires from them for like 20 years. While I generally get the tires then take them to an installer, there's options to ship to an installer (and official install partners).

The S1 is a high performance, all season tire ... it's comparable to other high performance, all season tires :) Hankook makes some serious high end performance tires, but if you'd prefer a brand you might be more familiar with, maybe look into the BFG g-Force COMP 2 A/S.

I am familiar with Hankook. I've ran them before as a midrange tire. I just didn't think they made serious tires for sporty driving. Like I said, I don't know much about tires. I think those will do. Thanks.

Model 3 as a whole is laughably underwhelming. Sparse interior, poorer range, mediocre design but hey it has a glorified iPad Pro in the centre console and cameras. Its an overpriced toy (yes even at that price) and a solution looking for a problem.

Model S i get and even the Model X to a certain extent. Model 3 though...i dont get it. But i guess i'm just being myopic.

The model 3 will be the new Prius for folks here to use to look down their noses at "polluting fossil fuel wasters"...never mind that those folks never drive out to the outskirts of the west end of the outskirts of the county and see the huge coal plant that charges their batteries.

Southwestern KY with its abundance of hydro thanks to the TVA might be a different story, but for most of this area coal is king. I know of a few small hydro plants in Central KY, but they are not operated continuously.

The power source is important, of course, but I expect the big auto makers to make electric cars that are better looking, better designed. The Model 3 is an unremarkable waste.

But a "Good" vehicle isn't helping sell the SS, its needs more than that to stay relevant. The SS sedan looks like a Cruze and a Malibu combined for one. I considered this car before I purchased my SHO. The performance was there, but the exterior design is off putting with very little flare that screams anything muscle related. There are two sitting at my local Chevrolet dealer and even the sales representatives stated they can't sell them, mainly no one wants a car that looks like a Cruze with a V8 in it and only primarily comes in automatic. The price tag on both of those is at $45,000. There are other V8 options with more aggressive Styling and cheaper over the Chevy SS, with similar performance numbers. Interior wise, the embroidered seats are very nice with decent bolstering.

And the other Thing that hurt the SS experience, is it's nearly impossible to find a Manual anywhere in the U.S. For sale. They primarily all are automatic and if you do find a manual, you will pay another small premium on top of the current price tag to get one shipped and delivered.
