I am always tempted to take the Camaro down to the Tail of the Dragon. Haven't driven it yet, but I hear its a blast to drive. But it would be a 4 hour drive.... :(
That guy on YouTube with the sapphire blue GT3 does that trip a couple times a year. I used to follow his channel for the detailing talk until he went full YouTuber with the inane drivel on other stuff, like the Porsche. I think the trips he's done were Porsche owners groups but I'm sure they would let you come along.

We didn't. We went to Hawaii.

The problem with Crown Range was I was in a Rav4 rental. lol.

Want to try the twisted sisters in Texas, but I'm not sure I want to drive all the way out there.
Still not bad. If the Kiwi roads are anything like Scotland, there's barely a police presence, if you catch my drift.

I'd never heard of Twisted Sisters before now. Usually, if I'm in Texas, it's either for hunting or business. For the latter, I'm usually visiting the local eats, specifically the BBQ places.

Just do it, make it a whole trip, lots of neat places to stay close by (a couple of awesome B&Bs I'd recommend - some _killer_ BBQ), you don't need to go with a club, but it can make more fun.

True Story: if you plan on trying to run down any S2000s, I'd suggest a couple of HPDEs in advance, or you might wind up having to call a tow truck :D

I'm going to try that next year with my Dad but on motorcycles.

Nice, yeah, bikes are pretty thick during the really nice times of the year - most are awesome, generally there's a pretty good communication protocol, and most of the good riders are also car enthusiasts - but you get some "anti-cager" halfwits that are dangerous to everyone.

It's one of the new times I've said, "I think I'd like to get a bike again", but no. :D

It appears I was close but wrong. The LC F is now slated to get a twin turbo V8 with over 600 HP, putting it in line with the German midsize cruisers. Price is estimated to be around $180,000. Which is damn pricey compared to rivals in its class, but it comes with Lexus reliability and people shopping at that level don't care about the infotainment as much, I'd assume. Lest they improve Enform over the next year. Also, the archaic urban soccer mom grocery getter G is getting a fancy interior update that makes it looks like just about every MBZ interior now...

With BMW dropping the 6 for the upcoming 8, I imagine the M8 will be priced within the Lexus. Panamara Turbo Hybrid whatsit, too.

I'd throw the AMG GT in that mix, too, except I've driven it and it's less touring more sports car. I'd say the AMG flavors of the S class coupe, but I'd think those attain low sales compared to the S class.

It being a luxury cruiser they'd have to offer it. I heard the F version is getting a tuned up version of Lexus' upcoming TT V6.

My all time favorite car (1953 MG-TF), I was a fool to sell it:

Which scenario are asking about? The direct Jeep path? I don't know, sounds like a fun race :D

Speaking of Jeeps, I was listening to ATP and Casey mentioned being sort of infatuated with owning one and Siracusa and Marco went off on the Wrangler ... this is why their car show failed and why they should never _ever_ talk about vehicles :D

i clarified my original post.

Has anyone here owned a modern diesel BMW or Mercedes for more than 5 years and/or 100k?

Not a diesel, but I have an 09 535i xDrive with about 125k on it at this point. Still chugging along just fine.

Has anyone not associated with Elon Musk gotten a Model 3 yet?

I think allegedly regular people have started to take delivery of their model 3’s. Albeit probably at a very slow rate. They have what- 400,000 preorders? They’re making about 200 cars a month? That means it could take up to 167 years to get your model 3. :D

Noticed the access cap on my fog light had gone missing. As it sits inside the wheel arch I felt I should replace it. £2.14. Possibility the cheapest genuine VW part there is!

I don't know anything about the acceptance of Samsung Pay BUT I do know that Apple Pay is accepted anywhere and everywhere that has contactless POS terminals (excepting those merchants who are having an ongoing battle with VISA in which case neither pay system is accepted.)

Yes. What would you like to know?

Nice car!

My parents have a GL and my uncle has an E both are diesel? What would you like to know?

Because if I take that 30k in 4Runner money and do a search for my second choice which are diesel AWD sedans I pick up a lot of 320d/328d Xdrives, X3's, as well as E250's, and GLK's. I keep my cars a long time so like my Jeep this car needs to last about 10 years and not kill me in repair costs since I'm now moving into an era of cars that I can't fix myself beyond brakes and oil. My wifes BMW is still to new at 40,000KM to make an assessment, and my father in laws e39 520 was too old and gas. The part of my family that drives Mercedes all lease through their business for 36 months so longevity isn't important. The internet seems pretty evenly split on they're junk or the best thing ever.

Great-great-great-great-great-great children, if my Model 3 isn't delivered ... avenge me!!

They're all good cars, but I wouldn't recommend one without an extended warranty. The engines itself don't have major issues... Most of the problems stem from the CARB/EPA-required SCR systems. Components of the SCR system tend to randomly fail and indies don't have any experience with them.

I had a NOX sensor fail on my BMW last year. The part itself was over $600.

These cars will last ten years, but prepared to spend $$$ if *anything* happens.

Neither my parents or my uncle have had any issues with their diesel GL and E and they have been driving Mercedes for as long as I can remember. I had the chance to drive the GL when I was last in the States and if I didn't know beforehand that the GL was a diesel then I would never have known. It is very quiet and made no "diesel sound" like the older diesel Mercedes. Hopefully they will last as long as the '70s and 80's era Mercedes diesels did.

I feel like 100 pages or so ago we had a guy on here talking about how great Tesla is. I still contend once the major auto makers build all electric versions of their popular models (Electric BMW 3 series, Electric VW Golf), Tesla is going to have their hands full.

I find it pretty amazing that Musk is having issues getting manufacturing Tesla's, but SpaceX's performance is now hitting its stride and rockets are as challenging if not more than cars.

Yeah, I think many/most of us who replied weren't down on EVs (and certainly not in some future context), it's the deification of all things Musk. He's done a great job as an evangelist for the technology, and kind of a crappy-to-mediocre job running a company whose business it is to ship cars as promised.

It's such a different science - I know people who can solve unthinkably complex software problems, but can't consistently ship what I'd call "Bulk Production" code. The rockets are a single complex problem, cars are less complex, but dealing with a +quantity+ that requires very specific skills, infrastructure, etc.

I feel the exact way. Make no mistake, what Tesla has done is extraordinary but I feel their lead in this segment is only only a result of the major manufacturers not focusing on electric vehicles - once they do, I think the majority of prospective buyers will stick to the bigger brands (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc).

We don't know what Tesla has planned for the future but they don't look like a company that really wants to focus on building the best overall electric car, instead they just want to build electric cars and I think this is where the major manufacturers will have an advantage. I sat in a Tesla and while it wasn't the worst place to be, I was not overly impressed (I could care less about that huge touchscreen that is not driver orientated/focused).

Yeah, this echoes my thoughts exactly. Once the bigger brands jump to EVs, there's no tangible reason to buy a Tesla anymore. They're a cool brand, but they lack the curb appeal of the established brands (Mercedes, etc)
[doublepost=1513555741][/doublepost]In other news, the new Ford GT was on this week's Grand Tour and it is stunning. I wonder if the new mid-engined Vette will be as beautiful as the GT.
