Someone hit my car in a parking garage. Damage to the rear driver door and the rear panel.

No note, of course.
Same thing happened to my A6 this time last year. Scraped across my rear quarter panel. I have no idea how either. I typically back into corner spots as close to the curb as I can. It is almost like they pulled in so tight into MY SPOT that they hit me with their front fender.

Still tempted to get an always on dashcam with interior recording. Currently I only have a front / rear that come online when the car is running.

Sorry to hear. I live a decent sized city and parking can be a real problem, and it’s unfortunate other drivers simply just don’t care/respect other peoples property, I.e-[Hit & Runs]. I deal with those frequently and sometimes I can track down the suspect vehicle, other times it’s difficult and unsuccessful. Perhaps the parking garage had cameras? It’s usually these types of situations when they don’t have them, when you need them most.

I have one. I rotate it between my cars. It’s a nice investment, (Insurance companies/L.E. love these) and its just a safe bet, not just for parking situations, but even on the roadway/highways for other type of incidents. You can find a decent one off Amazon for under a $100.00, I would just make sure it has expandable memory and adequate night vision is crucial.

Dammit dude!

I always try to park in the most defensive location possible in parking garages, but I realize sometimes it just can't be helped.
Same here.

I have a BlackVue front and back cameras that records parking incidents. Gives me peace of mind.

$2000 in damage. Not too bad. Covered under uninsured driver coverage. Should get the car back by next Friday

Sorry to hear. Someone hit my car with a shopping cart a while back. Finally bugged me enough to get it repaired last week. $700 out of pocket. Asshats.

Yeah, I was on the fence about going out of pocket, but the two panels of damage made me think insurance was the right way to go. Turns out I was kind of right.

How do you guys challenge your insurance if they want to pursue a repair option or method you find insufficient? After a year of being kept pristine where I would personally maintain and detail it, I now need two body panels repaired. While pulling into the driveway, a family member cut it too close to a brick pillar, scraped the rear passenger door and rear arch.

It was painful to see the aftermath. Anyway, insurance have their own bodywork provider to deal with this kind of thing and they're having a "smart repair" done at my address next week. I don't want a smart repair done, but the car is technically under the care of the company who deals with the insurance :/

I don't know what a smart-repair is. Who is your insurance provider?

You never took out an uninsured line in your policy? You're crazy, man. I would never not do that in this state. :p

Most people can't drive in the US, add to the rush everyone in this state is in plus mobiles.

It’s dependent on the insurance company, as some agencies don’t give you the option of choosing your own repair considerations.

For example, you *could* raise the issue with your insurance company that you’re not comfortable with the repair method, assuming you can make a recommendation for another repair that would be equally as efficient/cost effective.

Insurance companies always like to give you the directive, and most customers follow the typical protocol, but you can make recommendations for consideration of other shop repairs for approval. But again, it really does depend on the insurance agency, Some are more flexible than others. But everything surrounding the repair is based on ‘Cost cutting’.

I do have uninsured motorist. Deductible would be $500 anyway and probably raise my rates. Not worth it IMO.

Douglas Fir. Windfalls made in to firewood.

Sounds good. I think I had some type of fir last year. Not much, but about a yard or two by three of the stuff. Not dense at all. Burned fairly clean. Did it outdoors in the pit because I wasn't sure if you could burn it indoors. Usually use hardwoods for that.

Not bad then. Eating a $700 bill once is nicer.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all. Drive safe!

I don't know what a smart-repair is. Who is your insurance provider?

A company called Zurich, I'm based in the UK.

Fill it and spray it to match. In my experience you can always see it. Especially if you are a detailer.

Pretty much this. They also don't last very long, it's definitely a budget option for those who either aren't going to hang onto the car for long or don't want to invest the time and money in a good bodyshop repair.

Yeah I've got an alternative lined up that I trust and will price to try and fall within the budget of the insurance company. Going to keep pushing for it, if not I'll pay out of pocket to have it done properly.

Speaking of cars getting hit, I experienced a first in my Charger one dark night a week or so ago.

Driving home on an otherwise deserted country road, a small flock of deer appeared on the side of the road. Well, I had just looked left, and too late realized that they were there, on the right.

They quickly approached, en masse.

As I swerved left I heard and felt the contact on the passenger side near the rear door and quarter panel, winced, swore, and kept going.

Upon arriving home, I took out a flashlight and examined the side of the car.

No damage. Not even a hair.
Huh.

Definitely a first, for me.

Could the deer say the same?

Wow, not a scratch at all? I’ve had about 500-ish Car/deer accidents from experience and every one of the vehicles were damaged in some form, from hairline scratches in the paint to complete fatals. It really takes very little to cause moderate damage to vehicles, even at low speeds. Deer, as intelligent animals as they are, suffer from ‘Stunning’ when confronted with headlights. Consider yourself fortunate if you didn’t even achieve a scratch, extremely rare circumstances for your Charger RT, but good to hear.

Thanks. I do feel fortunate. It's possible that I missed finding the damage, but I've now looked several times, in daylight, and can't find any. I'm thinking the lack of apparent damage resulted from a combination of relatively low speed, my swerving away from the deer as it made contact, the deer's small size, an oblique angle of impact, and... dumb luck.
