A higher percentage of those other folks on the road are stressed, distracted, or both.
Most roads are dead empty here even during peak hours. It's maybe 1/5th of the regular traffic.

It is really nice to know the people in NY and NJ can't follow direction and stay the hell home!

Not taking sides, however, I live in a Upstate, NY community with one of the Nations largest Universities. Our positive results jumped after students returned from Spring Break in FL . The same can be said for other Upstate county’s with larges Schools such as SU.

Just sayin......

I understand that, but people need to stay put. Anyone in NY or anywhere else that has a lot of cases need to stay put. Hopping in the car and driving to FL can possibly move an unknowing infected person to another area.

Well, everything else might be closed due to C/19, but the track is open on the weekends!

Upcoming 70° For a track day:

Thinking that now is a good time to dig into the MG. I have a fair bit of time at home and nowhere to go.

The immediate need is to change the front crank seal, which doesn't require a full engine pull but requires me to undo the mounts and lift the engine a bit. I need to pull it and then decide if it needs a Speedi-Sleeve before ordering the replacement.

In any case, though, I'm pretty seriously considering doing rings+bearings. That's a fair bit more work than the front crank seal, but I'll at least be part of the way there. With the head off, the pistons can come out the top and I can hone the cylinders with a ball hone("dingleberry brush") in-situ then throw on new rings and rod bearings. 3 of 5 main bearings can be done with engine in.

After several years of mostly sitting in a barn, my '93 Suburban started right up after receiving a new battery. The old one had a stripped positive terminal, which apparently would cause it to intermittently die while driving down the road. Not really knowing what the problem was, I stopped driving it, until I could be bothered with fixing it. A year went by. Now it purrs like a kitten. Well, maybe not a kitten, but it runs beautifully. 109,000 miles on the odometer.

When I first bought it, used, a decade or so ago, I put a few bucks into upgrading the brakes (slotted rotors and stainless brake lines), a catback exhaust, ignition booster, cold air intake, Bilstein shocks, and polyurethane suspension bushings. The gas mileage went from about 13 to 19, and if careful on a trip, 22. It was mostly a pleasure to drive, for what it is.

However, the Subdivision, as I like to call it, needs some TLC.
The a/c doesn't work. Not sure why.
The white paint is awful; it's peeling in sheets.
It needs a new front fender, and a rear bumper and some associated body work where I backed into a tree. Ouch. The rear doors never did fit quite right after being replaced (not repaired) due to a rear end collision.
The tires have some slight cracking on the sidewalls, but I'm not sure they need replacing. The tread looks almost new.
It needs (wants) an upgraded sound system.
The headlights could stand replacing.

While I used to drive it a lot when living in the Rockies, it's mostly been sitting, on and off, for years since I moved to Virginia.
Mainly because I haven't had a real use for it. Now I do, as we recently started a house renovation (complete interior gut), a project in which my role will be one of sweat equity. I have a bunch of tools from a former life as a carpenter, and need a vehicle to transport said tools to and from the job site. Not having to unload them at home (as I would with a pickup truck) after working on the house is a bonus, as I can simply leave them in the Sub.

Financially it would probably make sense to just do the necessary repairs to the a/c, maybe replace the headlights, and get the rear doors realigned so they don't leak. And then drive it.

On the other hand, I envision the Sub the way it looked when I bought it, and think, for a few thousand more, it could look like that again...

a while back i replaced a clutch in my daily driver; 5th gen honda civic. In the end got good results but was a difficult project.

I would immediatly sell off my s2k if there was EV type like a 4x4 Honda ACTY type
-i live in an urban area, a long drive for my is 15 miles. Exclusively use the city streets as the freeway is total grid lock.
-car theft an issue here so needs to be graaged. A new land boat wont fit a 1950's garage. They are a struggle to navagate the narrow alley ways and streets

Here ya go Bunnspecial:

I’m assuming this is an MG, I couldn’t tell you anything other than that. But it was a gorgeous day, 75° for the top down.

Turns out that the shop that is supposed to install a supercharger on my Dodge Charger is still in business, albeit in modified fashion. I’m now scheduled to drop the car off on May 7, and it will be ready the following week.

I may not be driving much these days, but what little I’m doing is about to become a lot more fun 😁.

I Should be finalizing a ‘car deal‘ in the next three weeks, as of right now, it’s likely a Raptor, but I won’t rule out a 19 SHO quite yet.

However, I feel really bad for these car dealerships. Most of these dealerships are closed Through May and even beyond June in some spots (Some won’t make it at all.)

To complete a car deal, some dealerships are actually conducting ‘limited appointments‘ for vehicle sales, most of these transactions can be completed over a video conference through zoom/FaceTime as an option, which they even will send/fax over the paperwork directly to your house.

Anyways, I don’t want to involve any PRSI here, as I don’t care to get into that, but I think it takes the ‘fun ‘out of purchasing a car when there’s so many restrictions in place, and This is how it’s going to be moving forward with a different type of direction in car sales. I can’t even imagine what’s going through a car salesman mind right now in terms of where things are leading.

I mentioned a while back that the future of car sales would be through businesses like ‘Carvana‘, which initially I scoffed at, but now it seems that reality is going to be more predominant with those types of services of vehicles delivered directly to the buyers house without having to involve any dealership network whatsoever.

In terms of ‘car buying‘, there’s a lot of changes coming, some of which I think will be beneficial and other alterations are going to greatly affect of how we are able to purchase a car in the future.

But without a test drive? The way a car feels when driving is important in deciding on a make, model and trim level.
Good luck with it.
