New Bronco seems underwhelming. If an FJ Cruiser and a Land Rover had a weird looking child, it would be the Bronco.

Spot on. ....And might I add a little bit Jeep Renegade-ish mixed in there as well to cheapen the combo.šŸ˜

I get it though, itā€™s not for everyone, but for under 30K, thereā€™s definitely a market for this:

I actually like the steel wheels on this.

I get what theyā€™re going for, itā€™s giving that whole-rugged-mountainish-all-terrain appeal with an aggressive tire set up. For some, they will like this vehicle and for others it will be a complete miss.

Iā€™m always been one that realizes you canā€™t really judge a vehicle based on ā€˜staged photosā€˜, they can have a totally different stance/appearance in person. I figured that out with many cars Iā€™ve purchased over the years how different they look in person compared to glorified-marketing photos.

New Bronco seems underwhelming. If an FJ Cruiser and a Land Rover had a weird looking child, it would be the Bronco.

Well there's two flavors, the Sport (post above), which is sort of Bronco lite, the regular 2/4 door models (so 3 models total):

While some will get this for a grocery getter, particularly the Sport, you get into the other models and it's a serious enthusiast vehicle. M220 Dana 44 rear, rock crawler mode, 29Ėš breakover, ~43Ėš approach, a __factory__ 35" tire option with beadlock wheels. It's modular like a Jeep, so removable doors, multi-part roof, etc.

"Regular" model setup correctly (the cutout doors are slick):

Appraisal from hell:

Hang tight, itā€™s a long story, but I win in the end.šŸ˜

So thereā€™s one of two cars Iā€™m looking at buying (Actually finalizing shortly) , one of which I just had appraised yesterday.

The first appraiser that was recommended to me has an alleged ā€˜30+ yearsā€™ of experience hired by law firms, car collectors, insurance companies, dealerships, etc. So I called the guy and I explained Iā€™m looking to have the car appraised because itā€™s ā€˜modifiedā€˜ And I need an accurate representation of what the car is actually worth -versus- what the seller is actually charging. He said no problem, He continues to ramble on how ā€˜experiencedā€˜ he is and I should take his word like itā€™s scripture with Copious amounts of Babel mixed in so I would ā€˜trust himā€™. When we start discussing what he charges, he names a hefty price tag for his services, (Way more than I was expecting it to be). So if Iā€™m paying for a premium service, I asked him again, specifically tell me what you inspect on the car. So he Says he looks like at the paint, body structure, interior and takes the car for a brief test drive to make sure everything seems mechanically sound. I specifically told him I wanted certain things inspected and he kind of ignored my request and continues to ramble on about something else. (But Iā€™m trying to be as friendly as possible, until I can figure out if heā€™s legit or some type of experienced scammer.)

In the midst of all this, I told him I would think about it and I would call him back in the afternoon with my decision. So I called the guy back about two hours later and I wanted to re-confirm what exactly he inspects on the car and if he can meet my expectations, and finally he says, ā€˜Well no, I canā€™t check for XYZ, I only look at the paint and interior. So I ask him, ā€œWhy didnā€™t you tell me that in the beginning when I asked you the first time?ā€ (He doesnā€™t really provide a relevant answer to this question, Just throws more excuses trying to show how smart he is.)

I asked him what he knew about this specific car, and if heā€™s ever appraised any type of vehicle like this before. And he answers ā€˜Iā€™ve appraised hundreds of themā€™. My next question was, what kind of engine is in this car? He couldnā€™t even answer that, but reverts he Has plenty of connections in the car industry with ā€˜big namesā€˜.

Then, the appaiser mentions how busy he is and that if I want to use the services, I would have to book him soon, otherwise his fees would increase ā€˜due to demandā€˜ if I wanted certain services completed. (Yet, Ironically, he has over an hour and a half of wasting his time/my time of telling random stories if heā€™s ā€˜so busyā€™.)

So at this this point, I cut him off in the discussion (Which he thinks he can ā€˜outsmartā€˜ me, which he didnā€™tšŸ˜), and I called him out and I said youā€™re Not qualified to appraise this car and I think youā€™re willing just ā€˜to take my money for the sake of taking itā€™ and you were just going to generate some number that probably wonā€™t represent this car actually of what is actually worth.

It Was at this point in the discussion, he knew he was caught and not getting my money. I basically told him to ā€˜pound sandā€™ in a very respectful manner. (Oh, I did do my due diligence by back-end researching this person prior to hiring him, and I really couldnā€™t find much information on his background given some brief ā€˜Linked-Inā€™ description of 37 years of experience. [Even his website was unsecured and highly generic for someone of his alleged caliber.]

So, I called around and found an appraiser out of New York who works direct with Barrett Jackson and appraised The car for me within less than two hours. Professional, quick and concise with the appraisal, And explained everything to me, so I would understand where his number was coming from. So in the end, I lost my time, but not my money.

Iā€™ve always said it my whole life in my career, ā€œIf something doesnā€™t seem right, it probably isnā€™t.ā€

This guy sounds similar to some other high profile guy that's typically in the news....

Anyway, glad you're very astute in these matters and could see right through his BS and make an informed decision.

Yesterday during my drive, a nice SHO and I pulled into the fuel station at the same time, and ended up leaving at the same time too. He stepped on it when entering traffic and took off quick, fast and in a hurry. He knew what he had under the hood and used it.

I know youā€™re in the market for a car in the next six months or less, if you ever get a chance to drive a SHO, I do highly encourage it. The SHO is totally underestimated just as another ā€˜Taurusā€˜, which is understandable, because Ford failed marketing this car in any sense. And Iā€™m not just encouraging a SHO because Iā€™ve been an owner of ā€˜two of themā€™ now, They really are amazing cars From a luxury and performance standpoint. My only gripe I have, is Iā€™m not a fan of the touch capacitive controls, itā€™s unique looking and sleek, but I prefer a physical push-style button.

And what most donā€™t know about the SHO, they are very ā€˜maintenance sensitiveā€™. The PTU fluid needs to be changed every 10,000 miles or less, oil changes have to be precise on time and idling too long is a no-no with GDIā€™s.

[And as for the knob who tried to take my money and failed at thatšŸ˜, I think sometimes when you are looking for specific services, you have those who want to take advantage of ā€˜touristsā€™ who are out of state, And some fall for those tactics unfortunately. The big take away, Never be afraid to ask As many questions as you have and do back-end research.]

Incoming-

Seriously, I canā€™t sleep. This is actually a ā€˜one offā€™ Mustang that I deviated from the original plan. I havenā€™t been this excited about a car...ever. Itā€™s actually unique enough of a Cobra that was headed to Barrett Jackson in January.

More later....

Pictures or it DIDN'T HAPPEN
We all want pictures!

I spoke with the transporter And itā€™s on its way in a single car enclosed trailer, hopefully by the end by Saturday at the latest. He told me when he was securing/loading the car in the trailer, he mentioned heā€™s transported hundreds of cars and he said this is ā€˜one bad machineā€˜. Haha. Canā€™t wait!

Things are finally(quite literally) coming together...

I'm waiting for some final measurements to come in, but using some "typical" estimates I'm coming up with a C/R of about 9.8:1. That somewhat higher than my target value, but should be managable on premium and should give this a nice extra bump.

With how pretty it is now, I'm almost going to hate to run it :)

many people own trucks who do not use them as work trucks on job sites and whatnot. To them it is just a mode of transportation with useful utility features and towing/hauling capacity built in.
You know, I used to say the same thing. And then I'm starting to see full beds and trailers being pulled everywhere. Then I figured that it's probably confirmation bias on my part. Just because we see a shiny new truck parked at Wal-Mart doesn't mean its purpose is to run to Wal-Mart all the time. We just see it there at a moment in time and make assumptions, which is wrong actually.

Also travelling to livestock shows totally changed my opinion on luxo-trucks. I thought they were useless as a truck before, until I went to Louisville and saw just how many people trailered their stock from across the country. Soft seats and good AC sure mattered to them!

While I wait for the engine to get finished, other parts are slowly trickling in...

IMG_1354.jpg

These are the presumed originals for my car, or at least what were on it when I got them(and tagged correctly for a 69-70 car). I put them aside after a really bad tank of gas(that I think I showed way back in the thread) that silted them up badly. That left me with the jets stuck, which meant I couldn't adjust the mixture and also the choke absolutely would not work. These were also just tired, with worn throttle shafts(which aren't trivial to replace correctly) and a bunch of other issues. I put on a set that was maybe a little better(at least after a mild refresh) but wanted to eventually have these rebuilt.

I sent them off for a professional rebuild-I can do a lot of it myself, but there are certain tasks left to the pros, and just decided to have it all done at the same time.

The full list:

New floats, needle valves, and seats
New jets(with flex hoses to connect them to the float chamber)
New rubber bushings between the float chamber and carb body
Throttle shaft bushings reamed out, and correct replacements installed(that's the big one that needs special tools)
New throttle shafts
New throttle disks-the originals had poppet valves for emissions reasons-those cause idle issues and also are a big obstruction in the air path. The replacements are solid(I did that to the set currently on the car when I fitted them also).
New metering needle-converted to non-biased(no centering spring) and properly centered in the jet-the pistons fall with a beautiful "clunk"
Straighten choke lever
General clean up and polish of bodies, domes, all metal parts and linkages.

This wasn't cheap, but they're better than new.

They're too pretty to take to the garage just yet-that's on my desk :)

And the 2012 MBP doesn't go to the garage! I intend to do whatever it takes to keep it going as long as I possibly can.

I have to admit that I thought "Probe" had to be one of the worst names anyone ever devised for a car. I'd dare say that for a lot of people, it's not a word that brings a lot of pleasant images to mind...

My recent ā€˜car garageā€˜ projects weā€™re installing new LED track lighting and I also heated my garage within the last six months. Thatā€™s said, Iā€™d like to Epoxy Top-coat the garage floor with ā€˜marblingā€™, which if professionally completed, itā€™s pricey depending on the square footage of your garage And labor, [I have a four stage Split level], however; thatā€™s not my predicament. Iā€™d also like to install a hydraulic lift in my garage, to store one of the cars overhead during the winter to consolidate. The Scat is simply too big of a car, and I would move that offsite anyways, given how big the SHO is and itā€™s made for year round driving.

Anyways, I donā€™t plan on staying in this house in the next 15 years , (I plan on retiring down in Ft. Meyers if Florida surivies C/19 and hurricanesšŸ˜.) If I install a hydraulic lift, I know some home owners leave that behind [They may be downsizing where it doesnā€™t accommodate or they donā€™t want the burden of moving the lift to their relocation], but is this something that I may want removed and transported to my new location.

If anyone has experience on hydraulic lifts [I.e-Bendpak, Atlas, Triumph], In terms of if they have to be disassembled once the fastening beams are grounded or are they in a semi-permanent state once installed? (Plus is there any ramifications where the beams damage the ground/garage floor?) I would appreciate any feedback. Thereā€™s some off-site discussion on this, but a lot of conflicting reports depending on the brand, install, ect.

I don't know anything about car lifts except that they're supposed to lift cars up. That said, here is another one to consider. https://www.wildfirelifts.com/

I saw it on a YouTube channel that I follow, Vice Grip Garage. They show the unpacking and setup of the lift and it seemed pretty slick. Here is the video.
