American brands with exception of Ford have always failed in Europe and it’s easy to see why. Dodge, Chrysler, and Chevrolet have all released European variants that have either been poorly manufactured, or based on successful brands like Saab with awful styling and poor build/trim quality. I’ve experienced some of these when I have hired a car with work and got first hand experience of just how appalling they were. Chevrolet here was a rebadged version of Daiwoo here which were previously a god awful brand from South Korea. Some used Vauxhall parts and chassis, but they were cheap.

Never been sure whether these American companies were less than bothered about selling in Europe, or they didn’t have a clue about what the market expectations were. No amount of plastic chrome and chunky bodywork is going to influence tastes here I don’t think.
It definitely used to be true, too big engines, not enough power, terrible handling, way too soft of a ride, and an interior that would match a gipsy caravan at Christmas. All true to more or less degree regarding domestic 😈😬😂 cars of old. But, it’s changing and wouldn’t use those cliché as liberally anymore.

The sports cars are actually rather good now. The muscle cars are pretty awesome. You no longer have to wet your pants when you see a corner coming up.

And dare I mention Tesla. As good as world wide they are the best seller. A true market disrupted. Sure I still don’t like them, I’ve got an Polestar in order to replace my wife’s BMW M2 Competition. But I do appreciate what they’ve done, and arguably. They are the best and they are domestic. Ahem USA 🤪🤣

I’ve not read a lot of the posts on this thread, but thought I would share a few pics of a car you may not know anything about… the 2019 and 2020 Lincoln Continental “Coach Door Edition” sedans.

This is my 2020 which is 1 of 150 produced. There were 80 made in 2019 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Continental. Each car received a 6” stretch from the standard sedan and the rear hinged “coach” doors. Only 15 of the 2020’s were exported abroad, so if you’re located outside of the U.S. it’s unlikely you will ever see one in person.

Thanks much for sharing. Lincolns often caught my eye especially when I was a kid. Is this your personal collection garage btw? Looks awesome.

I did not know of the existence of such a beast, but it's beautiful!

I grew up with my dad driving Continentals, and we've always been a Lincoln family(including my dad having a 2019 Continental now, and my daily a 2010 MKZ).

I love the nod to the 60s Suicide Door Continentals.

The day is coming when I will need to replace my MKZ, and I've already been eying Continentals as a possible replacement path. I doubt I'd end up with one of those, but it's actually exciting to me to read that they exist.

Thanks for sharing!

Yes, this is my storage garage/shop where I keep my car collection. I am primarily a Buick Riviera collector, but have a few other cars too .

Haha. Must be a small world, because I think I’ve actually met you before. I enclosed trailered one of my cars to the ‘Iola car show’ from Detroit years ago and I believe you had one of the largest collection of Vintage GM vehicles in Wisconsin, or second largest next to ‘John Bergstrom auto Inc’. John was actually there that day on the grounds. (He sold me one of his cars over the years.) Pretty neat stuff.

If I am accurate here, we were actually talking a little bit about like restoration processes, extreme detailing (Which is my speciality), ect. It was like almost 100° that day.

If I’m inaccurate, someone in Wisconsin has collection akin to yours.

It’s certainly possible it was me, but I don’t recall specifically. I would not say that I have a large collection, but all told I own 11 GM vehicles plus the Lincoln.

Car detailing is also a passion and I detail as a side huddle in order to buy Gas & Oil collectibles among other things.

I go to Iola every year to walk the swap area looking for “treasure.” I’ve also shown cars at both the Concours d’Elegance of America and EyesOn Design shows up your way . I’m located just outside Madison, WI.

Polishing this 2022 BMW X7 today to prep it for a ceramic coating install…

Decided to join the EV club, loving it so far. My next goal is getting my home charger installed which has been a challenge right now for obvious reasons but I can charge it in 2 days using my 110 wall outlet so there's that. :p

Outstanding photo.

The Model 3 really has some uniqueness to its design that stands out and Tesla really executed how sleek it looks from different angles. It’s a lot of car for the money with the ‘tech’ and customization.

Enjoy!

Thanks! It's also the only one I could afford. ;)

Well if you didn’t have such weak wall outlets! 240 volts is the standard here. Enjoy your new ride. Nice photo btw.

I had a chance to jump back into my favourite car today totally unexpectantly. E31 BMW it was the V8 not the V12 as I owned many years ago but I got to touch my favorite affordable supercar anyway.

Helped the owner change both batteries on his E31 V8 when he was struggling to understand how its done. Took me back to the heady days of my E31 V12 ownership.

Seems a bit sad but given its 10 years since I last owned a car of any kind or got my hands dirty it was a big event for me!

GM finally did it, they’re releasing a Cadillac ‘V’ Performance. Availability will be announced spring 2022.

”It's expected to be powered by the supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 also found in the 668-hp CT5-V Blackwing sedan.”

US grid-to-house power is actually 240 Volts - It's just split-phase, so that it can be easily divided into 120 Volts. Most of our higher-power devices (electric stove/oven, electric clothes dryer, hard-wired air conditioner or electric heating units,) are 240V. Many electric vehicles come with a portable charger cord that has swappable ends - one for standard household 120V, 15A; and one for higher-power 240V, 50A (the kind usually used by and electric stove/oven.) Many newer construction houses have a 240V, 50A outlet in the garage, and some cities even *REQUIRE* it to better support EVs.

When we moved into our current house, we used an adapter to plug into the 240V, 30A electric clothes dryer outlet in the laundry room - which is where the garage opens in to - until we could get a proper 240V, 50A outlet installed in the garage.
