I am waiting for the 128GB / 4G model...:)

I considered doing the same! :) Particularly since I believe the 2nd generation model will have a forward-facing camera built-in. But I figure it's going to be at least 9 months to a year before that 2nd gen model is a reality. It's tough enough just waiting since January. :) Plus, I'm really good at selling older technology to help cover some of the cost of newer technology. I actually have friends that wait in the wings to buy my "hand me downs". :)

I'll enjoy the 64GB 3G model now and get the 2nd gen model later. Thankfully, the iPad isn't subsidized by AT&T so I won't be stuck in a contract. I can upgrade whenever I want. At most, it probably won't be more than $200-$400 to upgrade (after selling the original).

I am confident Jobs and company LOVE my plan. In fact, I'm equally confident that they are intentionally leaving the camera out of the 1st gen just to help convince folks to buy another one in a year! :)

Actually, what would have had to happen is that the WiFi-only model would have been held back. I remember reading the 3G model needed more lead time for FCC approval. So Apple isn't delaying the 3G model, they simply aren't hold back on the WiFi-only model.

I'm pretty sure that no company can offer a device for sale until it has been approved by the FCC -- which is why we had to wait so long between the launch event and the pre-sale date. On that date, both wifi and 3g models were on sale. So if one did take longer than the other for FCC approval, the other was already held back to allow for a simultaneous pre-sale listing.

I think there's another reason, unrelated to the FCC, that the 3G is being held back. My guess is either network capacity or manufacturing/parts availability problems.

Apple can pre-sell as many as they want, even before receiving FCC approval. As long as Apple doesn't ship them before FCC approval, they are covered.

A device with cellular radios in it requires additional FCC testing vs. a device without cellular radios. I stand by my original premise... it takes longer for the 3G version to receive FCC approval.

Fellow future 3G iPad owners...

Is anyone else having a curious -almost morbid- fascination with the flailings of all these people that are in a panic about getting their WiFi-only/GPS-less iPad's tomorrow? It's like a car accident or a train wreck.... I can't stop looking!

It will be nice when the WiFi-only crowd finally has their shiny new toys! No more gnashing of the teeth and frantic calls to the UPS service center every 5 minutes. :)

When I know my 3G model is about to ship, I promise that I will wait patiently. Well... maybe not too patiently! But I promise not to post my UPS tracking scan every 30 minutes! :)

I agree.

At times I think I made the wrong decision, but then 3 weeks go by and we're good. I'm glad I'm sticking with my decision.

I've pre-ordered the 64GB 3G iPad. I will NOT be buying a WiFi-only model, just to sell it or return it when the 3G models arrive. I'm going to patiently wait for my 3G iPad and, by the time it arrives, the WiFi-only folks will have shaken the iPad down, figured out the best apps, decided on the best case(s), and generally saved me a bunch of hassle in getting the most out of my 3G iPad.

Anyone else with me on this plan? :)

I tried... I really tried... but all the hype today got me to reserve myself a wifi version to play around with while I wait. If I find it fits my needs I'll keep it and dump one of the 3Gs I have coming. (I'm a good husband and am getting my wife one too)

Something tells me the realease date will be announced shortly after launch so that wi-fi only units sell first.

iPad 64 GB Wifi+3G and Apple Case

Hey Everyone,

I ordered a 64 GB iPad with the apple case on march 12th in the morning.

Im so excited!! and My iPad case shipped earlier today, so it looks like ill have the case to examine for a while, but the 3g iPad is so worth the wait!

-Nick

I'm waiting for the 32GB 3G iPad.

I hope I don't regret not getting the 64GB version, but I'm sticking to my guns.

Hey if anything maybe it will give me an excuse to get v2.

I'll be getting the 64GB 3G version. I'd rather spend an extra $100 than regret it down the road. It's always like that. I try to save money, but then 6 months down the road the $100 won't matter at all, and it will be so nice to have some extra memory.

I too am willing to wait for the 3G model.

I got the 32 gig 3G model not only for the ability to use the 3G at my convenience, but also because only the 3G models will have GPS on board. This means that the WiFi only models will not be able to run the Navigation Apps to their full capability.

I can only imagine what TomTom Navigator will look like on the iPad.

I'm very, very anxious but can wait. :)

I am on the same plan. Sucks to wait for who knows how long while everyone else gets theirs.

I ordered the Caddilac version (64GB one), Apple Case and the Aperture 3 Upgrade.

come on FCC hurry up! sooner you finish sooner apple with release shipping dates
in the mean time, I'm heading over to best buy in my pajamas and bringing a comfortable chair to sit inside with a wifi demo to pretend like I own one

I'm getting the 16GB 3G model... and I'm canceling my home internet connection as well as my U-Verse TV. I'll use an antenna for the local channels, use Netflix Streaming, etc. When I need to download something on my MBP, I'll go to a WiFi spot and do it. :D

I bought a Wi-Fi 32gb, but chances are I'm going to get the 3G model and sell the wi-fi only once it comes out. It really depends on the iPad specific apps that use 3G. I'm sure there will be some that are too compelling to resist.

Just FYI, Pre-order availability in Apple Store = FCC approval. Apple cannot sell what hasn't been approved already. I also believe we will hear something about our ship dates within the next 7 days. Fingers crossed guys. 3G FTW!!

I am patiently waiting for my 32GB 3G model. I like idea of always being connected since I am not always near wi-fi. The end of April cannot come soon enough!

I made an attempt to get information on this question directly from the FCC website, which was a mind-boggling experience. I failed. But this article (http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/01/wondering-why-you-cant-pre-order-the-ipad-it-isnt-legal-yet/) is the kind of thing that I got the impression that approval was required before pre-sale from.

I too have thought that it can not be sold nor go on pre-sale before approval. It's the same thing with new ham radios. They can put it in the catalog if they want but cannot offer pre-sale.

So if this is true...there is some other reason that the 3G is not shipping? Parts?
Because they already have my money for a 64/3G.

Just think of all the new apps and accessories waiting for those of us who wait these extra few weeks?

The worst 30 bucks I ever spent was the lame iPhone case I bought in an AT&T store on June 29, 2007.

I'll hit up an Apple Store next week for some hands on...
