I'm getting the 64/3G, I just hate the wait. If it wasn't for no wifi at work I would have gone for the wifi only model.

Agreed!

It's very worth the wait. It's still an exciting time though! I've already started to buy some apps, especially ones that are free or with a reduced price. Time will fly by fast and we get to learn more as our units ship.

I too have thought that it can not be sold nor go on pre-sale before approval. It's the same thing with new ham radios. They can put it in the catalog if they want but cannot offer pre-sale.

So if this is true...there is some other reason that the 3G is not shipping? Parts?
Because they already have my money for a 64/3G.

My theory is that AT&T needed the time to prepare, but anybody who really knows isn't talking.

I'm going to go to the Apple store later to check out some display units. This morning I've been tormented by the urge to drive to BB or something and try and pick a WiFi up. I have to force myself not to leave.

I seriously have to stop myself from trying to go to the store to get a wifi one now! I've been sitting here reading all theses posts and trying to figure out if I can justify getting a wifi now and a 3G later. My only hope is that if I give in they'll be completely sold out. I know I'm at least going to go by the Apple store to see it. Must be strong!

I am still going back and forth on trying to get a wifi version at BB and using their 30 day return policy once I get my 3G version.

BTW, I really doubt that the 3G delay is AT&T's fault. Their network will be able to handle the 3G iPad load. It is probably either FCC or production hold-ups.

I'm planning on at least going to BB and play with their floor models today. I'll make decision once I get there. Heck, maybe they will be sold out and my decision will be made for me. :)

Pre-ordered the 3G in the first 30 minutes, but trying to resist driving down the the Apple Store at 3p and pick up a wifi-only model.

But I know that with all of you saying the wifi only is great, the 3G will make it that much better, so I can wait a few weeks.

The only thing I'm worried about with Apple and BB's return policy is that Apple will wait until return period is over before they release the 3G. Think of all the folks who are planning to return the wifi model. I think they'd want to minimize losing money and that's part of the reason they haven't released a date. I'm expecting that if I get the wifi, I'm going to either have to keep it, sell it, or give it to a relative.

gonna see if i can snag an 16GB iPad 3G, i need that 3G in it. . for my dam vacation trip to an international place without wifi T_T

3G question - I have an iPhone and will continue to have an iPhone. If I get the 3G iPad can I drop the sim card from my iPhone into the iPad to temporarily use 3G? Not sure if I want to add to my monthly phone bill.

Nice to have some place to hang out. Yeah it sucks to wait but I am not second guessing my decision to go for a 32gb/3G. Congrats to all the wifiers!

I good friend of mine works for AT&T and told me they are upgrading their networks in San Francisco and New York - just about done. Her boyfriend works for Apple and he's buying 2 WiFi iPads - getting them Sat like everyone else. Meanwhile I am trying to stay strong and wait for the 3G. I keep thinking my husband should really have a WiFi, but he informed me this morning he wants to wait for the next generation. (he's not even a techie!). I have to show him how to use his phone!

I don't think so. The iPad uses microsim which is smaller than the iPhones sim card.

I ordered a 32 gig 3G iPad, but had to go to Best Buy today to check it out. What a sweet device! I must have played with it for a half hour plus. I was showing other customers what the iPad could do...I think I knew more than the BB employees. I could sell these things!

The new iWorks apps are fantastic and really expand the functionality of the device. The Dragon Dictation App worked very well even in the noisy Best Buy Store...will you even need a keyboard at times? Also, the display units were 16 gig and had approximately 20 Apps on them plus the three iWorks Apps and tons of pictures, some music and movie trailers. There was over 9.5 gig of space still available.

When people see the iPad in action, when they see all that it can do (and do it well), when the new apps start rolling in - I think everyone (educators, business people, salespeople, young and old) will want one. Also, the 3G option opens up many more possibilities, especially with the attractive, no contract pricing plans.

I absolutely can't wait to get mine. Three weeks will seem like eternity.

A bit later I'm going to go to the Apple store and possibly Best Buy. I have a 3G on order but want to see the iPad in person today. I really want 3G. But I'm so afraid when I go that I will do something silly like buy a WiFi model then wind up canceling the 3G order. Unfortunately my wife does not want one so there goes that excuse to buy one.

Deep down I'm kinda hoping when I go they are sold out so I can't be temped!

Is this crazy or what?????? :)

Not even tempted and have no problem waiting for the 3G. For me, it's a no brainer. The problem with my iPhone being used as a back-up for non-wifi area is that, unlike most of you it seems, I use it as a PHONE. There is not a chance I could use it as a GPS, watch a movie, stream music, etc. because I rarely go 15 minutes without a call, text, etc.

I love my iPhone but with the exception of being on a plane, or being in bed late at night, I rarely get long sessions with it without being "reminded" that it is a phone and my main source of communication. The screen is also generally a compromise for reading, watching movies, etc. The iPad will finally allow me to enjoy some of these apps from anywhere with a LARGE screen and no constant phone interruption (big issue now, is people I could call back later, still interrupt the app). Another plus of the 3G model is use of ATT wifi locations, huge plus. Not to mention GPS type apps, and being able to start a streaming app at home on wifi, continue in your car without it stopping and reconnecting to wifi on the other end of your trip.

As for those waiting for Gen 2. We get it but please stop combing forums for the latest news and reviews just so you can post about how you are waiting for us to beta test it for you. You want one, you know, we know it, so accept it. Will the next one be better? You bet. But it's likely 6-12 months away and in 6-12 months I suspect a 64GB 3G version will still be worth at least $600. $1.25 a day for a device most of use will use several hours a day is retarded cheap. I suspect I'm looking at "renting" this thing for about $0.25 an hour until I buy the new an improved version when it comes along.

If you really can't afford it now, wait until the end of May and start refreshing the apple store. Refurbs will start landing at 15-20% off.

ash =o)

I'm absolutely planning to visit an Apple Store this week to play with a display iPad! In fact, I'm looking forward to it. But there's no way in heck I can settle for the WiFi-only model. I think the iPad is going to be so addicting and fun, I'm going to want an internet connection no matter where I'm at. Not only will a full-time internet connection be important for E-mail or web browsing, but there will be games and productivity apps that need it.

Have iPad, will travel! :)

Hang in there everyone! This is the magical technological wonder that we are willing to wait for:

If it doesn't have that strip of black plastic at the top, meh! :)

BTW, that black strip of plastic will be how we can recognize each other in the wild! We'll know who are the patient and wise ones! :)

Well, I went to my local BB and played with the display models. I decided to hold off. Not because it did not meet my expectations, it was the return policy. BB is considering this a "computer" therefore the 14-day, 15% restocking fees apply. I lightly argued that this should fall under the iPod return policy of 30 days and no restocking fee. They did not agree.

The demo units really did not have many apps on them since they apparently got them a little later than expected and the tech did not have time to load a bunch of apps on them.

I tested the typing in Pages and I seemed to have no issues typing. The rounded back made it difficult to type as I sometimes got an extra character when it rocked back and forth. Typing on the circle display mount was easy as pie.

YouTube worked extremely easy. Search was quick. Playback was quick. Speakers suck. Def need head phones if in a noisy area. But then again, you would probably do that anyway for consideration purposes.

Browsing was also better than the iPhone. I did not want to log in to any sites, but the couple sites that I frequent loaded quickly. Honestly, as I think back, I cannot remember if they loaded the standard or mobile versions. I may have to go back to confirm. :p

~30 days is not going to come soon enough. But in the end, it will be worth it. I will be taking this thing with me everywhere and the 3G will really pay off.

My wife was patiently waiting in the car so I could not spend too much time. I may try to sneak back tomorrow or Monday to play some more. :D Heck, if I go everyday during my lunch, I will get my daily fix and soon my 3G will be here.

brilliant

It was a test of self dicipline to wait this long even.... but great idea to allow other to get the 'kinks' out and for vs. 3.2.1 ! Now waiting eagerly for 'late April'
