The "Decided to wait for the 3G models" thread

Just spoke with an Apple rep on the phone. She said they will be announcing the ship date of the 3G model "very, very soon." They are still on-track for April delivery with no indication anything has slipped into May.
 
The lack of constant internet connectivity is starting to become a sore spot for a few WiFi-only iPad owners. The returns have begun and some have decided it IS a better idea to wait for the 3G iPad! :)

I still don't understand the mindset, unless you absolutely positively do not travel anywhere ever. I had a conversation with a friend and he was plannin on getting the WiFi and I told him that the difference is if I want to use WiFi, I can, whereas if he wants to use 3G, he can as well.....right after he sells his WiFi iPad and springs for a 3G. I mean it just makes sense, for whatever size you're getting, pop the extra buck thirty for a fail safe ya know. Plus the way that they have it set up with no contracts, set up directly from the iPad, just use a CC and stop/start whenever you want. They literally have it so that you could use 3G every other month if you wanted to, with no ties or penalties. But, I don't get paid to sell Apple products, they sell themselves. I simply know a smart choice when I see it. ;)
 
I also need to return mine this week... gonna suck not having an iPad around. I love this thing!! But having 3G will be so nice and not having to depend on hotspots.

I returned mine to Best Buy. I felt I had a good chance of not getting stuck with a restocking fee since they were sold out, and all of the Wi-Fi problems. I told them the Wi-Fi was flaky, and they gave me a full refund. :)
 
I lucked out yesterday. My wife had hands on with the iPad and decided she liked it after saying she did not want one. So I bought her a 64GB wifi model. First I bought a 16GB but almost filled it up right away. I tried to get a 32GB but the Apple store was out. i decided what the heck, might as well get the 64GB and have room for everything we would need!

So I have a toy to play with while I wait for my 3G. That feature is going to make an awesome device even better! I can't wait!!
 
Well... Apple threw me a curve ball yesterday. They released HOT new MacBook Pro models. And they did so right at the end of a 5-day weekend when I was away from home and using my current MacBook Pro daily, importing large RAW files into Aperture 3 and spending time editing them. I was already feeling like my current MacBook Pro wasn't up to the task. Apple hit me with new, much faster MacBook Pros at a weak moment. :)

So... I have canceled my iPad 3G order and ordered a new 15" MacBook Pro with i7 processor instead. I wish I could afford to buy both at the same time but the iPad will have to wait.

I still feel the 3G iPad is the only way to go. I wish everyone luck with your new shiny toys! I'll have to console myself with my own shiny new beast! :)

I did not, but I still will be getting a 3G version. Though I don't think that I will use the 3G much. As some one said earlier "better to have and not need, than need and not have.".
 
I returned mine today. No restock fee!! I just told them I ordered a 3G since the WiFi was so flakey. They checked it over, saw it was mint, and gave me back 100% of what I paid. Sweet! Now there's room on my credit card for the 3G one. :)

Nice. I am hoping to get 100% back, but it doesn't matter in the end. I am going to return my wifi back tonight. Only issue is that I have to now wait for the 3G.

The news released today makes me worry a bit.
 
I read the press release... it seems Apple is intent on fulfilling 3G shipment before month's end. Or more specifically, it said delivery before month's end. That tells me we will likely see them ship by the 26th.

Hi everyone. I guess this is the closest thing to a support group on here for us 3G'ers. Pre-ordered on 3/23 and have apple case and dock in their boxes unopened waiting for the 3G. Hoping to see a "preparing to ship" by the weekend.

I did the same to mine last Sat. Stuck with iPad free week...:mad::mad::mad: Need 3g!
 
Does anyone know if you will be able to turn off the cellular and/or wifi radios entirely, the way you can kill wifi on the IPhone?

It'll be good to have the 3G when I'm away from home, but when I don't need it, it wouild be nice to have it completely out of the way and probably save some battery.
 
I just have to say that I'm extremely excited to be getting this device. I cannot wait for it to show up. I am going to eliminate any and all paper use in my life once this thing arrives. Also glad I'll be saving some money on my wireless 3G internet. I have (had) a wireless card from AT&T that ran me a whopping $60/month, or up to $80 when you throw in taxes and such. And realistically, all I needed it for was to get internet on my laptop while on the road. Now I'll be able to get this mobile internet for $30/month with the iPad unlimited plan.

Giddy up.

I ordered the iPad and case a week and a half ago but haven't even gotten the case yet.
 
Just got the Apple case for my wife's 3G a few minutes ago. Our Incase Travel Kit Plus shipped today - and states a delivery will be on the 20th. My last :apple: accessory I'm waiting on is the camera connection kit. I have a hunch that little USB attachment may wear many hats down the road in a future firmware update - i.e. USB printing, etc ;) My final splurge on this device will happen Sunday or Monday - then I'm closing the coffer doors. I'm just waiting for Hard Graft to bring their site online again so I can order their iPad case....and we'll be set. Hoping also to see preparing for shipment notices over the weekend. Fingers and toes crossed.
