Wasn't even that distracted by the fact that the "Village Green" is just up the road from me (and it's not in a village.)
But are there ducks in the pond?

EDIT: By the way, here's that new console room...

Well, I thought that really worked! I was doubtful but that introduction was really well done! Can't wait for the rest.
Though 2 things were painfully obvious, the young girl becoming the companion and the wedding being "tomorrow".

Started out a bit rough, but ultimately liked it by the end. Guess new show runner means new everything. I knew about the new Tardis, sonic screwdriver, title opening and logo. But new music! The Doctor's lonely man theme appears to be gone and in it's place is something far more heroic. Seems like he no longer has the weight of the universe on his shoulders. Did notice the Silence in the Library theme towards the end though.

Gawsh that sure is a perrty Tardis inside--I cannot wait to see it on BBC America I been watching some of the teasers during our DVRs of top gear--maybe he reconstructed his zero room? I always wanted to build a house with a zero room :D

Woah!

That was really quite good, he's got this "fierce" streak under all the light buffoonery that gave it a sharper edge than I thought could be there so early in the series.

Definitely enjoyed it, looking forward to this season progressing.

whatever any of you limey mother****ers do don't spoil it for us American viewers who have to wait three weeks please LOL

Same goes for you Sheep lovin Aussies :D

Erm, the Kiwis love sheep. We Aussies are alcoholics.

Why don't you have it yet? Torrents not working?

torrents download too slow sadly or I would be watching the doctor on my laptop like i watch flash foreward but those peckerheads running the BBC in the UK block the olfficial site

First episode inherited a lot of the old rubbish, like Murray Gold and some dumb hacking, also that "hip" BBC1 hyperactivity. On the other hand, Moffat is blatantly superior with dialogue and his pacing makes the RTD signature set-piece look obsolete as well as crude.

On its own I would say the episode is only a minor improvement; it's more evolution than revolution (e.g. the console room and the titles sequence), but it takes a lot to change a show's genetic code. Robot, The Twin Dilemma, and Time and the Rani were all era-openers that looked more like their predecessors' than something new.

I may be deluding myself into thinking that Moffat has a radically different vision for its future... but it would be hard for me to reconcile Moffat, who I think is the smartest writer in Television, with one of its most flawed shows forever.

So what did we think of episode 2 then?
no where near as good as last week

There were some nice ideas in the story (although i can think of several scfi film and tv show that have use similar plots) but it didn't really hang together. The starship UK didn't really work for me everything seemed a bit cheap (maybe some sort of meta joke?) and the Smilers where never really explained

loved "I'm the Bloody Queen":D though

WWII pepper-pots next week should be laugh

Really? I thought this was much, much, much better than last week's episode! I felt that this episode, unlike the previous one, did not really miss David Tennant. I felt that Matt Smith now has gotten more 'comfortable' in the role of the Doctor and is starting to be more independent of DT. I also loved the development of the relationship between Amy and The Doctor, it's interesting to see the 'dynamic' between them develop and play out. While MS and Amy were terrific, I think the show was stolen by the Queen! I also loved her sass, and that was something that was really lacking in the previous episode.

In addition, I think the subtle introduction of politics into the story (the entrapment and use of animals, the Public just forgetting the information told to them) was interesting, creative, very different and to boot risky, but I think that they pulled it off. It added a completely new dimension to the story, which we haven't seen recently, at least in RTD's time. All in all, I really enjoyed this new dimension, and new take on Doctor Who and I think that MS is shaping up to be a terrific Doctor, and I think the real question posed in this new episode is, what do you think about the subtle introduction of politics into Doctor Who? Do you think it is taking out the enjoyment of Doctor Who, do you think it will damage Doctor Who, in the short and long term?

I thought it wasn't as good overall, very RTD-like with the giant space whale. I thought Matt Smith was a lot weaker too. The writing is brilliant though and I adore the horror elements that are becoming commonplace in this series.

Next weeks looks superb!

I enjoyed the show while I was watching it, although not so much the ending (problem that happens a lot in DW, big build up, super easy solution emerges from nowhere)

But there were a lot of holes and niggles and things in the episode. I'm too lazy to go through it all but person that does, I'll agree with you :p

Shame that the Smilers were basically developed as a scary face for the trailer then never really used/explained. I thought it started off good, then fell apart the longer it went on. The dialogue is a whole lot more sparkly and fun than it normally is though so it's still ridiculously enjoyable despite the weak plot.

Also there's a lot of similarities recently - LOTR films style giant eyeball last week, world resting on a space whale this week (hello Discworld)

So where were all the feeding and vomit tubes on the special-effects space whale we saw at the end? Looked like its face was open to the void and completely tube free round the mouth area.

BTW, the shape of Starship UK did make you think there ought to have been a turtle under there. I wonder if they changed the original "beast below" after running it past the copyright lawyers...

I thought this was much, much, much better than last week's episode!

I wouldn't go quite that far, since last week was pretty good, but I'd have to really reach to find anything to complain about with this week, so I won't bother to try. The Beast Below had more of a "proper" story to it though, since all the regeneration stuff is out of the way.

I think the real question posed in this new episode is, what do you think about the subtle introduction of politics into Doctor Who?

It's nothing new...The Sun Makers back in the 70s comes to mind, among others. Also it wasn't that subtle. ;)

Actually the ending was carefully and strategically built up to from right near the very beginning. It was pretty much a textbook example of exactly how to do that sort of thing, and was quite satisfying.

The new Doctor Who totally kicks ass.

I love the new assistant (god she is hotttt!)
The plots are great again.
Matt Smith is miles better than Tennant.

I havent enjoyed it this much since the Christopher Eccleson days.

Yeah the groundwork for the big reveal was laid out all the way through but "a passing space whale felt the urge to save us and no one has to die because it's so kind!" was a pretty unsatisfying resolution for me.

The first 20 minutes were great though.
