I've staunchly avoided being one of the Davies-haters for a long time, but while I enjoyed the pair of episodes overall, I thought all those scenes after the plot was resolved were excessively drawn out, maudlin, and painfully self-indulgent. It just kept going. Finally, after years of giving Davies a break because it's only Doctor Who, it was in those final scenes he made me really glad to see the back of him.

Perhaps Moffat won't mistake the Doctor for Jesus quite so often.

Welcome, comrade.

I think the scene at Donna's wedding worked fine, particularly given that Wilf featured so heavily in the story, but the rest of it was unnecessary padding. No need to bring Piper back at all.

Gah. Piper.

Even the wedding - the idea that the Doctor's thank-you to Wilf (and Donna) is a bunch of money is actually quite disturbing. Apparently, money really is the solution!

Almost as bad as Rose getting a duplicate Doctor for her very own self. It's so material.

I just saw that as the only gift he could give them, he knows they'll put it to good use.
(I didn't like the ending either but I'm trying my damnedest to make sense of it )

I'd like to think that the Doctor wouldn't give them the jackpot, just the numbers to give them a good start to their married life. Equally, what he was giving Wilf was peace of mind – he was clearly worried about what the future held for Donna.

Hey, at least there wasn't a 60-foot Cyber robot stomping around at the end this time. That's got to be a bonus...

still not really sure how I feel about the final ep
let's just say the last 10 minutes were a bit self indulgent...

moving on... list of season 5 writers announced
http://www.denofgeek.com/television/393564/doctor_who_new_series_writers_lineup.html

Moffat writing six episodes
Mark Gatiss
Gareth Roberts
Richard Curtis
Simon Nye
Toby Whithouse all get one episode
Chris Chibnall gets a two-parter.

Pretty strong line up, but seems like a lot of comedy writers.
Having said that Moffat was best know as a comedy writer before working on Who

I'm not a fan - but watched the last two episodes as my other half is and she was

They reminded me why I'm not a fan.

I just don't get it. It's like Star Wars or Cloverfield. It's not that I don't 'like' them (I don't 'like' football, but I can understand why people do) . It's that they are so clearly dreadful productions - I can't understand why anybody would like them. The plot inconsistencies, the pathetic twisting, turning, making, breaking of any and all physical rules just to see a the horrid scripts to their conclusions.

ARHCHH

Noooooooo!

Richard Curtis??

Is that like they had Stephen Fry in the list of writers for S2?

I believe the Richard Curtis ep is in production right now
Chibnall, well "42" wasn't the best, but his work on season 2 of Torchwood was pretty good IMHO

and there's supposed to be a new preview trailer being shown this Saturday...

So walked down to the cashpoint this lunch time...
A DW location shoot was going on in the nearby park

(have whited out very mild spoilers)

They were filming a park football match, Matt Smith and James Corden were both there playing in the game. I saw a bit were the MS scored a goal and a small group of extras on the touchline started chanting Doctor! Doctor! Doctor !(Bit Cheesey) MS looked like a pretty good footballer. He is quite odd in the way he moves abound though
oh and of course he was wearing a number 11 shirt;)

Such is the joys on living in Cardiff sooner or later you bound to bump into Who, Torchwood or SJA filming something

^^ Cool. All we get filmed round our way are period dramas. Nothing Who-related at all :(

Netflix streams the first 4 seasons of the newest version of Doctor Who and I have rather enjoyed them, as well as the Torchwood series (though somewhat different)

I am now watching some of the much older Doctor Who episodes on Netflix as well... fun stuff

New who!

What'd you think? I liked it, I like Matt a fair amount and Amy doesn't seem incredibly annoying so far which is nice (although she seems to have a whole drama to come back to in some future ep; I'm not a fan of the continual return to Earth to deal with family catastrophe type storylines)

I have high hopes :)

We thought it was alright, that. Miss Jaffa Cake fancied the pants off Ten so her standards for new Doctors are high, however she's initially impressed with Eleven.

I don't think you can ever properly judge a new Doctor by his first episode though, so we'll see how things develop over the next few weeks...

Yeah really enjoyed that.
Particularly the early scenes with the Doctor and the young Amy, bit more subtle than what we've been used to.
The main plot reminded me a bit of the Hitchhikers Guide but that's not a bad thing.

Wasn't even that distracted by the fact that the "Village Green" is just up the road from me (and it's not in a village.)
