The biggest gripe I’ve seen is that the angle on the second hinge is not wide enough, thus view angles are too limited. I’ve seen folks saying that the maximum angle is steeper than the SKF and that’s just flat-out not true. I’ve attached a picture showing the MK maximum angle goes further beyond the max angle on the SKF. Not sure if folks just have not figured out the best way to flex it out to its max or what, but the range of motion here is very, very good for any use case I’ve thrown at it.

Seems like on your SKF, the fabric connecting the bottom and top part is still stiff / new ( shape like C and hang up in the air )
With time it will relax and rest flat on the table (shape like S) and it will give more max viewing angle ( more recline, i say about 5 ~ 7 degree more. Doesn’t sound much but big different).
Or to speed things up you can take it off and make a fold where it connects to the top part.

This guy also compared the SFK & MK 11” viewing angle. His SKF has a S like connector. Looks about the same.

I don’t have MK yet but my SKF 11” sits at 128 degree ( 52 when measure from the back). If the MK is spot on at 130degree then it provides a 2 degree advantage over SKF. Not that much but since the MK lifts the iPad closer to eye level it gives a more ergonomic position compared to SKF, for sure. ( same theory as how you dont adjust desktop monitor as recline as laptop)

I have the 11“ Magic KB and man do I love this thing. It’s almost perfect. I don’t care that it’s heavier because I want something substantial that holds my iPad. If it’s too heavy, take it off! I love the trackpad, it’s so great. The Face ID also shows how needed it is on the next MacBooks. The one thing I’d like if they were able to put some more battery in the tubular USB-C passthrough in the back, so it could give the iPad extra life. It is also a bit too expensive. This thing should be $100 cheaper.

I just got my Magic Keyboard today and so far am loving it.
  • The trackpad is great. I don’t care that it isn’t haptic. This makes scrolling so much easier.
  • The keys are just as good as on the 2020 MacBook Air I also bought. They are perhaps even better.
  • Apple has done a nice job adding mouse support to the iPad.
  • The backlighting is flawless. There is almost no light leak.
  • The reviewers saying this doesn’t look premium don’t know what they are talking about. I don’t care what the outside of the case looks like. It’s functional. The keyboard area is noticeably premium-looking, and the trackpad looks like it can handle a lot of use.
I do have some quibbles, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it:
  • I do occasionally hit the screen when I’m reaching for the number keys.
  • It is a tad heavy, and it no longer fits in the sleeve I bought (which did accommodate the old Apple Smart Keyboard), but it does look like a sleeve for the 12” MacBook might work in the interim.

Also, is the typing experience similar to a real magic keyboard? I never used a MacBook so I can’t have an idea of how the typing is on this one.

This is the best typing experience I have had with an iPad. Over the years I have had several of the zagg keyboards (broke 3 or 4 of them, stupid hinge) I have also used the Bluetooth Magic Keyboard that came with my 2017 iMac. And most recently the brydge pro. All these keyboard cases have their pros/cons, but the iPad Pro Magic Keyboard case has the best key feel of the bunch.

Ive been using the 11’’ iPP and MK heavily for day and it’s a mixed bag for me.

Pros:
  1. It’s well built
  2. They keys have a nice click and good travel to them. In fact, they are nicer than the new 2020 MBA
  3. Viewing angles are nice
  4. It’s balanced, doesn’t feel like it will topple over
  5. Trackpad is solid and nice click to it throughout the entire surface.
  6. The magnetic are strong and your iPP will to fall over
  7. The mouse is awesome however I turned off “intertia” bc that didn’t feel natural.
  8. First time using a touch screen + keyboard and Apple is on crack. This needs to be a thing.
Cons

  1. My fingers hit the iPP when it’s fully tilted back While typing. That sucks, as I lose that angle. Might be a 11’’ problem curious to see if any 12.9inchers notice the same.
  2. There is no ESC key....wtf! I went thru this with the 2018 MBP and hated. I used modifier keys to bind caps lock to ESC and its ok but makes it weird when switching between a full keyboard and the MK
  3. Function keys are missed - many times I looked to change volume, change brightness etc.
  4. Expensive, I’d say its worth 200ish - 300 is a bit much for the short comings you get.
  5. Can’t open with one hand- saw the video in the post above, will try that out.
  6. Doesn’t fold all the way back to use in tablet mode - this one didn’t bother me as much. You can flip the iPP and MK upside down/reverse so that the keyboard props up like its the screen and the screen sits as if it’s the keyboard and you can use the AP to draw etc.

Overall, I’m going to probably keep it bc I’m a early adopter junkie but I’d caution those that think this can become your replacement laptop, at least on the 11’’ bc of the cramped typing area. I cannot see myself typing on this keyboard all day while having my fingers hit the iPP screen.

Can any of the 12.9ers confirm that they have more space?

Not even coming close to the iPad when I use the numbers row on my MK with my 12.9" but like with so many things, this can be different for everyone. I may just have a more shallow finger position when typing but hasn't been an issue whatsoever.

I don’t know if its been answered before, but its Hard to know with videos. Is the iPad more centred in our eyes now? One thing I really don’t like with the Smart Keyboard folio is that I have to look down and its really not confortable after a short While.

The raised position of the iPad on the MK vs. the SKF definitely makes a difference for me. I didn't expect it since it's only maybe a little more than an ince higher but I'm liking the improved position.

As far as typing feel..much more like the current magic keyboard on the new MacBook Air or MBP 16". Feels a bit nicer than the SKF and way nicer than the butterfly keys on the last few generations of Mac laptops.

Personally I feel like the weight makes it feel premium. Would I have argued with a leather version though? Nope. Would’ve gone right in my cart. I agree though. It’s minimalistic and elegant. I’ve been using it so much today.

Absolutely, I feel this case is heavy and that makes it premium. I wish there was a way house an extended batter in the tubular weight/brace in the back for extra back. Is the smart connector not able to do this?

Well, since the smart connector is providing a charge to the iPad when you have the case plugged in, it theoretically could. Though I personally don’t think I’d want to have it be any heavier. Lithium ion batteries are super dense and I’d imagine the weight added if a battery was placed in the metal “tube” would be pretty substantial.

I believe “Command and . “ is the equivalent to Esc.

I think the weight is fine I certainly wouldn’t want it to be too light as on the lap it makes things more secure.

I’ve got the MK for my 12.9”, the SKF for my 11”. I also have the Apple Folio case for my 12.9” which I purchased while I waited for the MK to be released.

We’re on lockdown here in the UK at the moment so I haven’t travelled with the 12.9” at all yet, other than around the house. I have to say, I kept reaching out for the 11” when casually browsing on the sofa but strangely, the MK has changed this behaviour. I‘ve found myself carrying the 12.9” with the MK to the sofa, while lying in bed, all the places around the house I’ve previously found the 11” better suited, purely because the MK is great on the lap now.

I’m enjoying the MK more and more each day.

Just got mine for the 11 inch. Man is this thing something. The weight is right for balance, and the materials are ++ . I‘m happy. Makes me want to run out right now and spend $1500 on the 12.9 + keyboard, which makes me think Apple knows what they are doing. ;)

If Apple ports Mac OS to Arm, i’m thinking the lines between these things are going to blur.

Ha! That’s exactly how I’ve been opening it.

I absolutely LOVE this keyboard, a brilliant upgrade to a product I bought almost 18 months ago, wow.
I love the typing experience and I think that the Magic Keyboard does make the iPad a better and more useful device.

currently own 15" MacBook Pro late 2014 model.... I bought the 11 inch iPad Pro for when I travel... tired of carrying my MacBook through the airports... I just am not sure if I should have gone with the 12.9 inch, with the new magic keyboard, is it going to be too big? too heavy?... its back to 11 vs 12.9

I have the 2019 15" MBP and was originally going to stick with my 11" 2018 iPad Pro and just get the Magic Keyboard for that, but changed my mind and sold the whole 11" setup and bought a 2020 12.9 with Magic Keyboard. I will tell you that my order for the 12.9" iPad Pro and the Magic Keyboard are still both on backorder and have been for a week now. The iPad itself MIGHT get here next week and the keyboard not until early May.

I guess my point is if you want the 12.9" stuff any time soon, I'd advise ordering it NOW.

using this just really makes me wanna sell my 11 inch and get a 12.9 inch with the keyboard lol.

Yea I love it on the 12.9, I dont know if I would like it was much on the 11in, just personal preference.
Problem is i dont like the 12.9 as a tablet, especially for reading and browsing one handed. I’m sure its a dream attached to this keyboard though lol.

Fight the temptation, don’t let Apple get to you. They want you to upgrade every year/generation. That’s always their M.O. At least wait until next year to see what the high end 12.9 is all about.

Lol I’m not moving anywhere I promise ;) its just nice to see what options ill have in the future. I still think the 11 inch is the best tablet size, and that’s more important to me than the keyboard attachment.

I have an ASK and my magic keyboard is en route. If I really like the MK and decide to keep it, just wondering if I should sell the ASK to recoup a little bit of money or just keep it as a backup. Curious what others in the same situation are doing...?

Does anyone find it annoying that you can't single click with a light tap, and double or option-click with a two-finger tap? I haven't used a trackpad that I had to physically click in at least a decade, as both MacOS and Windows facilitates this in settings.
