I'm sorry but I think this is fugly. How is it that other Android manufactures seem to be able to design nice looking phones but not Samsung? This looks like faux leather looking plastic with dimples. But hey, it will litter up the spec sheet so the tech geeks will love it.

I actually only expect something like the Snapdragon 800/801, for the LTE variant of course.

Because looks are everything right? If so, go buy that hideous "The New One," with the rounded edges.

There's a reason why Samsung outsells every other Android OEM by a significant margin. They provide the best overall Android experience. Simple as that.

I have seen those dimples on the back of another phone before but can't seem to remember it.

I will miss you premium leather backing. Will miss you.

That reason? Extreme marketing.... Samsung spends more money on marketing than any other android phone manufacturer BY A SIGNIFICANT MARGIN.

I love android, but despise Samsung's approach to android.

Thes best overall android experience comes from the nexus line.

I'm still skeptical, the Spigen photos on amazon clearly suggested a rather large 2 -tone flash setup on both varients..This may be a different device alltogether..

Samsung probably spends more on marketing then everyone else put together (HTC,LG,Nexus,Nokia etc)..They spent 14 billion last year on marketting..

Thes best overall android experience comes from the nexus line.

I would tend to agree although the nexus 4 was not the best hadware in my opinion nor had the best look and feel. HTC One had the best feel in my opinion and was the flagship device among flagships in my eyes (for android)..With Nokia looking to enter into android phones and HTC already working on the M8 i will go out and guess that these 2 brands will be producing the most asthetically pleasing phones on android.

I'll save my impressions until after the keynote. People are losing their minds online with these leaks. In a bad way.

People here keep banking on a 'Prime' model. I'm hoping for one too but I don't think it's a given.

I'd be disappointed if those leaked images were of the final version of the S5 that'll be released.

Samsung seem to have their fingers in their ears when it comes to complaints about design and materials. The Note 3 felt better then the S4, but it's still subpar in the age of aluminium and glass bodies.

the "black edition" S4 gets the fake leather back, i was hoping that would carry on for the S5...this dimple back looks like a couple of steps backwards. but it's going in a case anyways...

If it was that easy don't you think that HTC, LG, Sony et al would gave cottoned on to this and throw some cash at marketing.

What an ugly device. What the hell is wrong with Samsung and HTC?! As dope as the One and S4 were, they weren't the absolute epitome of good design...

Marketing plays a role, not the only thing that does. Samsung has a huge market presence around the world, they've invested in it significantly. Can a company like HTC spend that sort of cash? Samsung has also built up a base early on by piggy backing on apple and its phones (hence the nearly billion dollars in damages)..that wouldnt have hurt..

I'll reserve my opinion for after the reveal.

Though my full interest is mainly reserved for the GPE edition.

I don't like the new One with more rounded edges, but the One from last year was a beautiful phone. One of the reasons Samsung crushes the competition is because HTC and others can't compete with a $14B advertising spend.

Actually I do think that is pretty tasteless even for sammy. The combination of the sickly gold colour and the glossy dimples is not appealing to me at all.

I am not so sure just advertising is the reason why they have had such great success. It they sold crap phones......people would not buy them. It is as simple as that..... You can advertise all you want but if the product is crap then people will not continue to buy it. The S4 outsold the S3....the Note 3 out sold the Note 2 and so on and so on.......

Its not just that, HTC does not have the resources to establish the sort of network that Samsung has established..

Yes marketing plays a role but it's not the only factor. Sony and LG could afford to spend lots on marketing. Samsung have done well because they make devices which have caught the imagination of the general public. Most people don't know or care that their samsung device is running touch wiz. They don't care about pure android and nexus devices.

Samsung did not copy Apple. Apple got awarded frivolous patents for things that were already in existence. Then of course no one else can have a square device, or one with rounded corners. If that case had been held in another country Apple would not have won. Most of Apple's lawsuits against Samsung have been thrown out in most other countries.

I agree....I don't know why they can't come up with a better back plate than the one in that leak. You would think they have market studies to show people look on that in a negative light.

You do realize that in the "real-world" your opinion (or mine) on how the events unfolded has no bearing? The reason apple and samsung take each other to court is because that is the medium through which companies in the civilized world challenge IP claims and violations. Samsung lost to apple and have to pay a huge ammount of money. Its really that simple !

If that case had been held in another country Apple would not have won

Based on your endless analysis of various legal systems, and enormous ammount of research into the merits of the case. Could you kindly share your thesis?

Most of Apple's lawsuits against Samsung have been thrown out in most other countries.

What difference does it make? Apple won a major award..did it not? Did the verdict not prove that samsung needed to pay apple for violating their IP?

Based on the fact that the majority of their lawsuits have been thrown out outside of the US. However you are right whether I agree with it or not Judge Koh has made her decision and Samsung will have to pay the damages, however the amount has been reduced.

Well, after seeing the leaked pictures I've decided no SGS5 for me.

I don't see any special improvements over my SGS3. Don't like the design (hate the look of the back), don't like AMOLED, don't like the hardware home button still, Touchwiz is mostly the same with new icons only, etc.

I'm going with the Z2. It now has an IPS display so that'shuge improvement for me.

And have you read each and every one to confirm whether the merit of the case was the same? Not every lawsuit is a carbon copy of the one where apple won the award. There are other lawsuits in the US where the claim is different and has less merit...Samsung has not lost once but lost on the appeal as well..To question the entire legal system based on the fact that trials besides this have not gone in the same direction as this is childish.. Appeal was also turned down, and the ammount of damages has little to do with a verdict but more about the way damages are calculated..

Calm down, the official launch is little over 2 hours away..:)
