So today the refurbished macbook air I ordered from
https://www.theshoppingchannel.com for my mom arrived and ugh.. faulty wifi chip!
I took it to Best Buy for Set up thinking I just was clueless and the setting was there somewhere, I own a macbook pro so I thought it was weird there was no wifi symbol or wifi anything even when I booted the computer up for the first time the wifi setting was there but not clickable and once I was past the set up stuff, no wifi options at all.
Everything else was perfect though – the air looked completely brand new the screen was great it was clearly not used or if it was not for very long, likely returned very quickly. Like it really looked brand new I was so happy, not even any dents! It was with taxes over 950. Payments of 70 dollars per month which is perfectly manageable for me.
I paid for best buy to run a diagnostic. That was 65, if it is just a faulty wifi chip it’ll be 183 (as it’s 250 total but the diagnostic counts).
Now here’s the thing. I have a warranty from the shopping channel but the thing is…
So when I got the UPS tracking I learned it was refurbished from CNB computers. This was not stated on the shopping channel. I saw they have
A LOT of bad reviews. When I saw that I was very worried, but told myself it’s probably just because people who have bad experience are more likely to review and most people probably have no issue. But then mine arrived with a faulty wifi chip and I was like omg the bad reviews are right. Seems so unprofessional this could happen to a refurbished product. There JOB is to make sure it’ll be ready and usable.
Anyway I felt in a dilemma. Many people leaving reviews even talked about how long it took to get there product fixed and I was thinking to myself do I deal with a possible annoying hassle of dealing with them or do I just spend the extra money? Best Buy is first running the diagnostic then they will call me to let me know if the only issue is the wifi chip.
I’m thinking they’ll run that test, find out if that is the problem for sure and then if it is MORE than that, more than just a wifi chip that needs replacing I will ship it back to CNB. As I believe a diagnostic doesn’t void warranties since it is just about finding what the problem is. Because if they report back that all the laptop needs is a wifi chip replacement and everything else is in working order than ****, I’ll just pay the extra to have bestbuy fix it since I don’t trust CNB given my first experience dealing with them had a problem and people leaving reviews have had lots of trouble getting products fixed. People left so many reviews saying they ignore emails and how hard it is to communicate that I was scared to risk that and willing to let Best Buy do it since I know even though it's expensive they'll get it done.
Anyway I suppose my question is anyone ever had the faulty wifi chip problem? I am just hoping that’s all it is as the laptop was in PERFECT condition otherwise. I have to at least appreciate the fact it was in perfect shape.
