Ordered Refurb i7

I ordered a Refurb'd MM i7 w/ dual 1TB drives with OS X Server. Now I gotta just figure out how best to take advantage of all this computer and integrate it into my Home Theater.

Time for fun! Tips are welcome.:D

I guess its my lucky day. My MacMini that was supposed to have 8GB of Ram, came with 16GB. WooHoo.

My order said: RFB MAC MINI 2.6QC/2X4GB/1TB-FUSION-USA

My system says: Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Lucky SOB! I just ordered a refurb i7 Mac Mini with 4gb of ram so I would be happy to find 8gb but I doubt that will happen. I also ordered a new base Macbook Air and love this thing to death. This should be a good 1-2 punch!

My refurb mini arrived today, it also came with 16GB memory when the one I ordered was to have 8GB.
Guess I'll just have to live with it...:D

Hey guys! I got my first Mac computer today for $700 and it was brand new with a 2.3 Ghz Intel Core i7 model with 4 GB RAM and a 1 TB 5400 RPM hard drive.

Although I don't mind the hard drive since 1 TB is plenty of space for me and most of my laptops have 5400 RPM anyways, I find that the 4 GB of RAM might not be sufficient since I will be working with SPSS and Excel spreadsheet programs on the computer for my clinical research project.

There are 8 GB options for ~$80 but I found for $40 I could get 16 GB so I decided to get these sticks:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231580

It is G.Skill with 1600 Mhz (2x 8 GB) for 16 GB, unbuffered, non-ECC, 204 pin memory and with 1.5 V RAM (the stock DIMM slots are apparently 1.5 v too, is this correct?). However, upon reading the reviews I noticed 2-3 people reported having troubles with the RAM on their Mac Mini and G.Skill responded saying "it was not tested for Apple" even though some others reported it having worked fine.

Will this RAM work for the late 2012 i7 Mini? Has anyone tried these sticks out? I hope the people complaining only got bad sticks of RAM and it's not a compatibility issue.

They might, but for the same price I'd get these http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC3-1...UTF8&qid=1379128458&sr=8-2&keywords=16+gb+ram guaranteed to work and free shipping...

I got 2 days ago my first mac computer. I bought mm 2012 i7 2.6 + fusion drive and i must say: this is amazing computer!!! Im using him for just 2 days and i already fell in love with this machine.

I just picked up a Refurb 2012 Mini 2.3 Quad I7 1TB HDD for $679. That was such a good deal, I couldn't pass it up since I need a new desktop. My local Best Buy is still selling the same model for $779 new. Looking forward to getting it and I plan on adding a 240GB SSD and 16GB RAM. Should be good to last me for the next few years.

Good Job there, Bensal. I hope you continue to enjoy your new Mac.

I just did the same as SteelBlue: Got the 2.3 i7 ordered from the Apple refurb store. I haunted them for about a week until the latest batch of refurbs showed up.

I've been going though these forums to decide on a Mac mini spec and have noticed that the price for a fusion drive upgrade has just gone down by £40 (uk)...was +£200 now +£160

I bought a 2012 i7 mini on ebay for cheap. (<half the Apple price) Alll it needed was to reinstall OSX. (the seller thought it was broken so he sold it for parts) one man's lost is another's gain. haha.:) I throw in 16G of RAM and put in two 500G SSD, it's my super mini!:) Good things do come in small package.

I can believe this will eventually happen but price needs to be dropped considerably on the Pro to make it work.

With hardware costs coming down and the desktop market shrinking, yes eventually the number of desktop lines will be curtailed. Just do not know if the time is right for it yet.

I decided to upgrade

I decided that my Late 2009 Mac Mini has had enough and I picked up a new Mini yesterday. Haven't had much time with it due to working all the damn time. I know it's not the best time to get a new one with the imminent release of new hardware but it doesn't bother me. It's my office machine.

I am considering buying the i5 model as that is the maximum I can afford at the moment. The i7 is out of my budget for the near future.

Now I find out that there is an Apple Special Event on Tuesday 22nd October - will they release a Haswell Mac Mini? Will the i5 be dropped? Will the i7 be dropped to the same price as what the i5 is currently??

What do you think?

Thanks

No matter what happens, I would wait a few weeks unless you must have a machine now.

The existing models will come down a little in price once Apple releases something.

Ordered a mac mini

I waited for the update. No joy. I ordered the 2.3GHz i7 today. Friends and Family discount (nice). For what I use the computer for, a Haswell upgrade would have been nice, but it's not a deal breaker. So I ordered the Mac mini and a 16GB kit from Crucial. My old Dell ZinoHD is dying and I really don't want to get stuck without a computer.

It's time I moved on.

I worked in IT at a university before retiring. You can waste a lot of time waiting for the "latest and greatest". So I pulled the trigger.

got my Mac mini!

My new Mac mini arrived today. 2.3GHz i7. Purchased with 4GB and installed a 16GB kit from Crucial.

It arrived with Mountain Lion. I did the Mavericks upgrade. Using a 27" AOC display and connected HDMI with no issues at all. Still getting used to the trackpad in place of a mouse. I keep wanting to move the trackpad :)

Haven't been able to get Flash working in Safari yet. Still learning my way around, but overall this is a pretty easy transition from linux.

Grabbed a 2012, 2.3GHz quad i7, 4GB RAM refurb a couple of months back ($750 AUD), and a Dell U2714H 27" monitor (on sale from Dell for $650), connected via the Dell supplied DP-MDP cable.

Added 16GB Crucial RAM (CT102464BF160B, for $160 via eBay), and it is running very nicely, much smoother than with the 4GB RAM. (Have not tried installing Mavericks yet. Waiting to see if there are any serious problems with it, and for my 3rd party app developers to catch up with it.)

Very happy with the overall result. :)

Still has the standard factory 5400 RPM hard drive. :( But I am saving for an SSD as a Xmas present to myself to complete the package.

At lunch, I visited the post office to pick up my new-to-me "minimum used" Mac Mini (Late 2012) 2.6GHz i7 with the 1TB Fusion Drive and 16GB of RAM. I paid $719 for it from a 10-year-old 100%, 10K positive feedback merchant on eBay. (I saw it listed at $799 last Wednesday evening, and I barely resisted. Thursday morning I looked again and eBay was running a 10% off desktop PC promotion, so it was $719.)

It was only supposed to have 4GB of RAM, which matched the specs on the original packaging that it arrived in, but the first thing I did when I took it out of the box was check inside the case, and I was pleasantly surprised to see two 8GB SODIMMs installed. I only had time at lunch to boot it up, check the specs, and run a quick disk check. But it all checked out. It's got a virgin Mountain Lion installation on it.

My 2012 base model i5 with 16GB of RAM and a 680GB DIY Fusion Drive (180GB Intel SSD + 500GB stock HDD) is going downstairs for family school/gaming/HTPC use. (I was going to swap the i5's 16GB with the i7's, but now the family mini will just be seriously over-RAMmed. There are worse fates.)

I was going to wait and see what Apple did with the minis, but with the price I couldn't resist. I'm excited to get it set up with Mavericks and "benchmark" it with a nice Handbrake session.

I just received an Applecare bonus with the new i7 mini. I went online to Apple support and tried to register it. And of course, it was already registered. So I found one spot where I could just enter the serial number to see the support status. It showed it as covered by Applecare through March 1, 2016. A quick online support request and a call from Apple, and it is now registered in my name, Applecare and all.

It's all set up now. Fresh Mavericks install, system migration from the other mini, and then some manual organization. It's running Handbrake (H.264 encode) on some 1080p video clips right now, and it's almost, but not quite twice as fast as the base model i5.
