The i5 and i7 are quad core. Presuming it's the same as the i7 in my iMac then the i7 adds hyperthreading that's missing on the i5 giving the i7 a pseudo 8 cores.

Ah. Just been Reading up. The mobile i5 an i7 aren't the same as the desktop version. Doh.

Just ordered my first mac, the low end 13"...$400 for 260 mhz no thankyou, its not needed for web browsing and word! :)

(Waits impatiently)

I've ordered the base 15" yesterday.
Waiting for my shipment info :) (should I start a thread about this? :D j/k)

Happy waiting for shipment info everyone!
Or, if you already bought one in the store, enjoy your new machines! :)

yeah, it's annoying that we had to wait for the thing to come out and now again for it to come to our hands...if should materialize itself in front of us (in Portugal it's 5 days on the Apple Store, hope it comes sooner to physical stores) btw folks from around the world, physical stores usually take how many days to receive the new products?

Finally, the 6+ month wait paid off. I can finally retire my blackbook.

I returned my ipad today and got:

13" high end
24" cinema display

and also 60GB SSD boot drive (to put in place of the optical).

Cant wait!

Hey congrats on your purchase. But I'd really like to know your reasoning for getting the high end 13" model

I am going on vacation Friday, so I am going to try to pick one up from the Apple store on the way out. I called yesterday and they don't have any i7 High Res Matte yet. I REALLY want a glass screen but not at the expense of glare...I hate glare. You would think in 2010 we could have a glass screen that didn't have a glare to it.

I am also upgrading from a PowerBook. This upgrade should be HUGE for what I do (software developer/programmer). I can't wait to get mine up as soon as the store gets them.

(On a related side note, this is going to be a $3000 month for Apple. I am getting a 3G iPad the minute I can too. *Ouch*)

i did not get the high res, what should i do?
the apple store already prepared it for shipment so no use trying to change my order. i hate how that the apple store finally has it together but at my expense. :(

when it gets delivered to you you have 14 days to start the return process. call the apple online store number in your country and explain to them that you want to swap it for a high res option. Dont open it! they will start the exchange process and charge you the extra for the high res display. even though it will take you longer to get your MacBook Pro, in the end it will be well worth it. 1440x900 just isnt good enough. 1680x1050 is the perfect resolution

Hehe, yeah i was contemplating going to the nearest mac store and seeing if they had the new models, or just ordering now just in case they didnt have them and having to wait an extra day. I opted for online purchase (i live in Australia btw). Order details say it will arrive next wednesday or thursday :(

Ordered a 17" i7 glossy. Can't wait for it.

The more I think about it the more I want to go with a res glossy. My PowerBooks are obviously matte and I am not biased towards them. I just don't know If I can get over that reflection.

hmm.

I purchased a 13" 2.4 Ghz MBP. I was very bummed out that it did not give the option or come standard with an i5. Considering I would never need that much power in my CPU, C2D is perfectly fine and meets my needs. The increase in HD space, Ram, and battery life for the same price is enough for me. I am aware Apple half assed the 13" line, but I sort of understand why given Jobbs' explanation.

This is my first mac and I love it so far. I would never really have a need for the i5 as I don't do intensive stuff on my cpu. To me it is sort of like buying a v6 car when they also offer a v8 for way more $$$(which you may or may not need). For the price I paid after educational discount I am completely content with my purchase.

Just ordered the 15,4" HighDef Glossy i7 2,66 GHz 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB 500 GB Serial ATA-HDD (7200 rpm)

for $ 3.330 (Norway)

I'm so jealous of all you people ordering ix 15" or 17" MBP's. why couldn't we 13" hopefuls be given this joy .

Just kidding - enjoy yourself :))

Dont worry you 13" have the joy of 1 more hour's worth of battery life, and portability.

I love the 13" form factor, but in the end the higher res option and anti-matte not to mention i7 from the 15" was won over (that and I need the grunt for CAD, sound and video editing and abit of gaming now and then!)

*raises hand*

Late last night, i purchase an i7 15" High Res with 500gb 7200.
Sooooo ****ing stoked. A lot of people seem to be whinging about the price and costs, and to be honest, i copped a bit when i told my student friends i just spent $2800 (australian $) on my first macbook pro.

Sounds just like me although my friends dont know it yet. I went for the anti-glossy screen and with EDU discount it was about AU$2800 as well - I will miss the glossy screen from my prior sold MBP but having liked the matte screen all the way back on my PowerBook I knew I had to get that back!

Bought my new 17" MBP

So I waited for the refresh and when it hit yesterday, I went right to the store and got my new 17" MBP and officially made the switch to Mac for the first time. Some impressions:

1. I love this computer! After one day of heavy use, I feel that the extra money spent is WELL worth it. The battery life is absolutely incredible. My previous laptop is a Dell Inspiron with a dead battery that only works when plugged in, and even when it was brand new, I couldn't expect more than 2-2.5 hours of battery. This computer legitimately lasts 7-9 hours, and since it was my first day with it, I was using it all day.

2. It runs quietly and cool. My roommate, who is a total PC guy, came home from work and couldn't believe how cool the laptop felt to the touch. I told him I had already been using it for about 6 hours at that point and he was amazed. This thing is incredibly efficient.

3. Things just work...it sounds like a company line, but it couldn't be more true. Whether it was connecting to my network or installing a number of suggested apps, everything worked smoothly.

4. Multitasking is super fast. On my old computer, basically if itunes was open, the rest of the computer was completely bogged down. On this one, I have itunes running constantly and the computer hasn't even had a slight hiccup.

5. The expose/spaces feature is awesome! I never knew about this, but a friend who has a Mac showed me this and some other features, and I could never live without it now. The "All Windows" feature is a must, I could never go back now.

6. Since I purchased at the apple store, they only had the i5 model in stock. I actually wanted the i7, but I couldn't wait to order it online so I ended up with the i5, and for anyone wondering, I don't regret it at all. Granted, I'm not working with intense graphic software, but the i5 seems to be lightning quick.

Just some thoughts from a first time Mac user.

Ordered mine as soon as the Apple store came back online!

15" w/ hi-res screen (glossy)
2.66GHz Core i7 CPU
500GB 7200rpm HD
8GB RAM

It should be in my hands no later than mid-week next week. I can't wait! :D

Glad to hear this! Welcome to the family! This just made me smile on a day that I was feeling so crappy on. Have Fun and enjoy!

Well, for the first time since 1992 when I sold my IIci, I am a Mac owner. Nice to return to the fold.

I was waiting for a MBP refresh and so I pulled the trigger last night on a 15" HR i7. Can't wait for it to show up.

*Hand up* bought the 17" core i7 500GB 7200 drive.

I ordered first thing yesterday morning and still have yet to receive my "order confirmation" - strange.
