Ahhh its so nice getting new macs. Especially when all your friends are 'windows' people then they go on the mac, and they just love it! i'm glad for you

So I waited for the refresh and when it hit yesterday, I went right to the store and got my new 17" MBP and officially made the switch to Mac for the first time. Some impressions:

1. I love this computer! After one day of heavy use, I feel that the extra money spent is WELL worth it. The battery life is absolutely incredible. My previous laptop is a Dell Inspiron with a dead battery that only works when plugged in, and even when it was brand new, I couldn't expect more than 2-2.5 hours of battery. This computer legitimately lasts 7-9 hours, and since it was my first day with it, I was using it all day.

2. It runs quietly and cool. My roommate, who is a total PC guy, came home from work and couldn't believe how cool the laptop felt to the touch. I told him I had already been using it for about 6 hours at that point and he was amazed. This thing is incredibly efficient.

3. Things just work...it sounds like a company line, but it couldn't be more true. Whether it was connecting to my network or installing a number of suggested apps, everything worked smoothly.

4. Multitasking is super fast. On my old computer, basically if itunes was open, the rest of the computer was completely bogged down. On this one, I have itunes running constantly and the computer hasn't even had a slight hiccup.

5. The expose/spaces feature is awesome! I never knew about this, but a friend who has a Mac showed me this and some other features, and I could never live without it now. The "All Windows" feature is a must, I could never go back now.

6. Since I purchased at the apple store, they only had the i5 model in stock. I actually wanted the i7, but I couldn't wait to order it online so I ended up with the i5, and for anyone wondering, I don't regret it at all. Granted, I'm not working with intense graphic software, but the i5 seems to be lightning quick.

Just some thoughts from a first time Mac user.

You have just been "Mac'd and you will never go back" :D Welcome...:D:D

im rodering a macbook pro!

so im ordering a 17 inch i7. 8GB ram and 512 SSD with aprature...im so excited! what you guys think? oh and i also have student discount this is going to be my first mac :D

Well I just had to post on this thread!

I got my 17" i7 2.66GHz hi resolution (antiglare) model from my local apple store last night (first day it was released!). No dead/stuck pixels with a gorgeous display, 10 hours of battery life, runs much cooler and the best part, it feels like a real desktop in terms of speed! The thing is FAST.

To those of you who are awaiting their i5/i7 mbps, you are in for a big surprise in the speed department.

I exchanged my 4 week old 15" 2.8GHz mbp for it and they didnt charge me a restocking fee.

picked up 15 last night.. then as i was walking back to car.. realized i paid 650 more for a heavier bulkier laptop that i didn't originally want just because of the i5..

went back and got the 13 2.4ghz for 680 less after tax.. 1099 :D.. 13 is my limit in size for a mbp and i'm glad i exchanged before i opened it haha

apple almost got me with their up sale scheme .. phew..

anyone going to the store to buy the low res 15 must be crazy.. the increase in size must justify the increase in resolution.. a low res 15 is too big to have such low res

For me I find the 13" way too small. I had the 13" (previous gen) and it felt like a toy more so than a notebook/laptop. I was getting neck cramps + the glossy display was too distracting even indoors at the university with the very bright lights.

Anyway to each their own, the 15" and 17" is perfect for me but I decided to go with the 17" as it wasnt that much heavier than the 15".

2.66GHz Intel Core i7
8GB 1066MHZ DDR3 SDRM - 2X4GB
512GB Solid State Drive
SuperDrive 8X DL
MBP 17" HR Glossy WS Display

Woop Woop

Yesssss! They finally released the macbook pros (Been waiting since before Xmas). Ordered today (was too late yesterday).

- 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 (Ahh Yeah)
- 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRM - 2x4GB (Sweet!)
- 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 RPM (Boom Chika Wah Waa)
- MBP 15" HR Glossy WS Display (I really hate the silver bezel on the anti-glare. So i'll buy a moshi guard thing if it annoys me.)
Quick Edit: I forgot to mention: £50 for Apple Care!

I also got a case, DVI adapter, magic mouse, remote and apple care.

£2074.18 (inc VAT) w/ Student Discount

Plus my company says it'll pay for it (claim VAT back) and charge me half (maybe even a grand's worth).

So, £2074.18 / 1.175 = £1765.26
And £1765.26 / 2 = £882.63 (or £765.26 if they pay for a grand's worth)
Sweet!

Ohhh. :(

I'm just about to buy a new MPB 15" with the i5, but I have some questions. Does anybody know if you can buy a MBP through the apple developer connection store and not actually be a member of the developer program? I'm just wondering because I can make it all the way to the checkout in the developer store but I don't know if they will process it and reject it. Also, does the 15" feel a lot heavier than the 13" or are they about the same weight?

so a noticeable difference between the 2.8GHz C2D and the i7 then, that's good. Also you mention 10 hours battery on a 17@?! That's longer than they advertised :D

That is one -*BIG*- "laptop". Holy cow...

Its that new iMat or iWall.

I'm after a PC laptop equivalent with a better body design and internal 3G, could you please point me in the right direction?
I'm platform neutral and work with OS X, Windows, Linux, and Unix. There is nothing like what you are looking for, in the Apple lineup.

You will be far better off, and happier with a PC. I might suggest a ThinkPad T410, or T510 they're offered with all the latest in wireless connectivity options. The newest of which is Gobi, which will work with any carrier you have.

Check Out My New MBP

I know there are other threads where people can post the specs to their new i5 or i7 MBP's that they ordered. However I wanted to add a little wrinkle. I am proposing that below, you:

1) give the basic details of the MBP that you purchased / are going to purchase
2) give the basic background for how you use your computer. Are you a graphic designer, gamer, causual user?

Think it would be very interesting to see who orders what kind of new macbook pro. Also, feel free to use this area to comment on other peoples setups as well.

Happy posting.

I'm going to get the cheapest 17" available. I'd get an iPad but I need flash to manage my cafe and farm in facebook.

I am still on te fence between the base 15" with and without hi res/antiglare. I'm confindent it will suffice for my needs. It will be used mainly for excel, word processing, web surfing, watching movies, itunes, very casual gaming(AOE,HoN), photoshop, aperture, and a couple engineering programs(solidworks, reservoir modeling). The extra resolution would be nice I believe, but is it worth it for $150?
