So I waited for the refresh and when it hit yesterday, I went right to the store and got my new 17" MBP and officially made the switch to Mac for the first time. Some impressions:
1. I love this computer! After one day of heavy use, I feel that the extra money spent is WELL worth it. The battery life is absolutely incredible. My previous laptop is a Dell Inspiron with a dead battery that only works when plugged in, and even when it was brand new, I couldn't expect more than 2-2.5 hours of battery. This computer legitimately lasts 7-9 hours, and since it was my first day with it, I was using it all day.
2. It runs quietly and cool. My roommate, who is a total PC guy, came home from work and couldn't believe how cool the laptop felt to the touch. I told him I had already been using it for about 6 hours at that point and he was amazed. This thing is incredibly efficient.
3. Things just work...it sounds like a company line, but it couldn't be more true. Whether it was connecting to my network or installing a number of suggested apps, everything worked smoothly.
4. Multitasking is super fast. On my old computer, basically if itunes was open, the rest of the computer was completely bogged down. On this one, I have itunes running constantly and the computer hasn't even had a slight hiccup.
5. The expose/spaces feature is awesome! I never knew about this, but a friend who has a Mac showed me this and some other features, and I could never live without it now. The "All Windows" feature is a must, I could never go back now.
6. Since I purchased at the apple store, they only had the i5 model in stock. I actually wanted the i7, but I couldn't wait to order it online so I ended up with the i5, and for anyone wondering, I don't regret it at all. Granted, I'm not working with intense graphic software, but the i5 seems to be lightning quick.
Just some thoughts from a first time Mac user.
Is it possible to order custom made macbook pro elsewhere other than the apple.com?
You can take it now or just before the end of the first year, either way you'll have the same coverage!
Try http://www.powermax.com/:DIs it possible to order custom made macbook pro elsewhere other than the apple.com? Macmall always has a much cheaper price without tax.
picked up 15 last night.. then as i was walking back to car.. realized i paid 650 more for a heavier bulkier laptop that i didn't originally want just because of the i5..
went back and got the 13 2.4ghz for 680 less after tax.. 1099.. 13 is my limit in size for a mbp and i'm glad i exchanged before i opened it haha
apple almost got me with their up sale scheme .. phew..
anyone going to the store to buy the low res 15 must be crazy.. the increase in size must justify the increase in resolution.. a low res 15 is too big to have such low res
Just picked up my 13' MBP 2.4 over @ the West Farms Mall in CT. I plan on doing an un-boxing video and other stuff soon.
Here's an unboxing video for those interested.
But knowing Apple's legendary quality, you can pick it up from one corner with one hand and all 13 feet of laptop will stay perfectly stiff! That is one -*BIG*- "laptop". Holy cow...

Well I just had to post on this thread!
I got my 17" i7 2.66GHz hi resolution (antiglare) model from my local apple store last night (first day it was released!). No dead/stuck pixels with a gorgeous display, 10 hours of battery life, runs much cooler and the best part, it feels like a real desktop in terms of speed! The thing is FAST.
To those of you who are awaiting their i5/i7 mbps, you are in for a big surprise in the speed department.
I exchanged my 4 week old 15" 2.8GHz mbp for it and they didnt charge me a restocking fee.
That is one -*BIG*- "laptop". Holy cow...

I'm platform neutral and work with OS X, Windows, Linux, and Unix. There is nothing like what you are looking for, in the Apple lineup.I'm after a PC laptop equivalent with a better body design and internal 3G, could you please point me in the right direction?![]()
