I just ordered a 17" i7 MBP. :)

17" anti-glare WS
i7 - 2.66 GHz
256GB SSD
4GB RAM

It's a good thing I have been saving money since November waiting for this. I will buy Aperture at the Apple Store, and will wait for iWork '10 and possibly 10.7 when they release those updates...

Just got home with my brand new 17" i5....

I went to the store to compare the 15 and 17 because I was completely torn. After waffling for a bit I looked at the res on the 15 and decided to go with the 17. Leaving the store I was wondering if I made the wrong choice.

After eating lunch I opened up my macbook and started it up.

Yup. Totally made the right choice.
Just gorgeous.

Ps douchebags who sit in apple stores to browse the web are really annoying when you are trying to compare laptops.

So, finallly they're out :). Time for my first mac after a long wait... Sorry for questioning this. I know there are a lot of threads about it, but now there is a new situation...

My choice is:

15 inch with 2.66 GHz.

Screen: I've read a lot about glossy or not. I'll try glossy...

High-Resolution: I think it could be a little bit strange in the first moment but you'll get used to it, so I'll take it and hope... ;)

HD: I'm not sure of upgrading to 7200. Like I've heard it could cause more noise and temperature. Noise wouldn't be a real problem for me but temperature.

What are you thinking?

Thanks

Got my 13" Base model at the Apple Store today right when they got in their shipment! So freaking excited. Worth the 4 month wait? Will see...

I have a 7200 in my current MBP and it runs pretty quiet. I woudnt worry about the noise too much. However, it does get fairly hot sometimes. I notice this more when I am working on it at home because at work I have it up on a stand and dont feel the heat.

Thank you very much. Like said the temperature is important for me because I'm often working with the computer on my legs...

new Mac 13 finalllllyyyyy

I held out since Sept when my dell lappy screen finally died. I have a powerful Mac Pro but i was thinking about getting a powerful i7 laptop for work on the go. When logic set in and when talking to a friend i realized i wouldn't ever really be in a controlled environment if i were on the go, what do i care if i can do Photoshop and Lightroom with my laptop with lightning quick efficiency? I decided to drop coin on the 13" 2.66 Macbook pro. I didn't add anything special just went with the base setup. I figure memory drops in price continually and SSD has to be coming down at some point, when i feel things are not up to snuff I'll just bump the ram to 8g and the SSD for faster responses. Some of the money i saved i put toward a new HP wireless printer that you can use the screen without a computer connected and plug a url in to print or just print the pics from my iPhone to it using the iphone app that i can download. Pretty cool! now if i am working from the chair and don't want to be chained down to the office and i don't need sick power i am good to go!

the printer is

Your speedstream will work fine.

15" will be here tomorrow!

Ordered the base 15 via Amazon. Love the overnight prime shipping for $3.99! I'm a writer so I don't need a ton of processing power for most of my usage, although I use Aperture a bit for family pics and that thing is of course a resource hog.

I'm replacing my 2.16 C2D 15". It's 3.5 years old but I have to say it still runs like a champ, especially with 3gb ram and the 500gb 7200rpm drive I just put in it a couple of months back. Going to sell it to a friend for their family machine. The only thing that makes me nervous about the new machine is the glossy screen, but I've gotten used to it on my iMac and my iPad so I'm pretty sure it'll be fine. Can't wait to start using those Chiclet keys!

Pecked out on my iPad

Ordered yesterday

i5 2.4, /w HR screen and 8gb of ram... I'm sure cs5 will chew up all that ram and in the next year 8gb will be the norm so 8gb right I think is a good move... price wise I can't find anything cheaper locally for ram so $400 from apple isn't too bad...

also got a intel 80gb ssd and ordered a optibay to place my 500gb 7200 rpm drive to store photos / music / vids...

can't wait should scream when it's all done

I just ordered my base 15in model with a few upgrades, hi res glossy display, iWork, fast shipping and applecare and threw in a neoprene sleeve for protection. This is my first mac :D so I pretty excited.....

Adding ssd after buying

Hi all,

I'm about to buy a new Macbook Pro 15" 2.66 GHz but I want to install a 80GB SSD besides the 500GB hard drive. I'll be using the OptiBay thingy that has been going around for some time now.

I had a couple of questions though:
1: Can I install my backup of my current Mac on the new Macbook and afterwards like 'drag' the system files (programs and libraries) to the SSD and keep the rest on the HDD or do I have to reinstall the entire thing and set the SSD as the standard boot drive?
2: Is necessary to put the SSD in the spot where the HDD is now or can I also boot from the SSD when its in the place of the DVD drive?

Thanks!

we ordered five C2D 2.8 ghz 15.4" almost three weeks ago.

by some stroke of luck, the orders got stuck in apple limbo.

Long story short, and after a few emails back and forth from some apple sales guy.

we are getting five i7 15" machines matched spec to spec from the original order.

Since the price went down $100 per machine, we overpaid $500!
so they slapped on the high res display to make it even steven!

should be early next week

talk about hotness!

13" C2D MB to 15" Ci7 MPB

Über-excited about upgrading from my "old" BlackBook (which'll now be solely for my younger brother) to my first MBP!

Before - during college
13" (1280 x 800)
2.16 GHz C2D
2 GB 666 MHz DDR2
GMA 950

After - having graduated
15" (1600 x 1050)
2.66 GHz Ci7
4 GB 1066 MHz DDR3
GT 330M w/512 MB

Honestly, way more computer than I need right now, but I'm gonna love the added real estate and plan on using my new baby for ~ 3 years again!

I'm new here and to mac. Although I've had an iPhone for a little over a year, I just got my first MBP and iMac last week. I am seriously in love with expose. I have dug around this site and have already found a ton of useful info!

I went to the Apple store today in order to see if a 17" MacBook Pro is what I really wanted. If it was, I was gonna order an i7 with 8 GB of RAM.

Turns out, I got all that in-store! No waiting for it to ship.

Course they only had anti-glare and i kinda like the glossy deep color (but I also like the feel of the anti-glare when looking at it) and how it matches my LED Cinema Display.

So yup! i7 with 8 GB of RAM and housing my OCZ Vertex. Funness :D.
