And my patience paid off - now I'm anxiously waiting for my CTO 15" to ship, but just dreaming about it (whilst knowing that it now actually exists) makes me happy.
Before I decided to wait for Arrandale, my mind was set on the entry level 15" C2D, but CTO with the HDD up to 320GB HDD. Now that the new ones are here, I didn't stray too much from that choice - but I couldn't resist the HR screen I don't have the money to go i7 and I really won't be needing all that processing power, since it will mostly be used to write assignments in LaTeX, some semi-heavy statistics using R (the really heavy stuff is for servers anyway) and do presentations using keynote - stuff that the i5 will handle without a blink. Moreover, all the benchmarks comparing the different i5's and i7 say that there is an insignificant performance boost from the lowest i5 to the i7, and that the i5 seems to treat the battery better, so I'm really happy with my choice.

I looked at the hi res anti glare screen on a new MacBook Pro 17 inch yesterday in local Apple store and it was stunning.

I ordered over the phone directly from Apple. The Apple lady said they actually configure the custom machines in China, and then air freight them over. I still haven't seen any shipping update. I can't wait!

I ordered the base 13" on tuesday morning but was concerned that I should have gone with the base 15". Order had not shipped yet, so I cancelled and bought the base 15" at Best Buy with educational discount in the form of a $100 Best Buy gift card. Best Buy had the base 15", hi res 15" and 17" in stock. At least 10 of each.

I'm SO psyked about this. After I can't count how many months of waiting for the refresh, it's finally on the way! I joked in the waiting thread that some of my keys don't work anymore on my 5 year old Zepto laptop (whis is true), and now it's f..... because of virus so I had to shell out the money and I think this might be my best purchase yet! First time Mac owner, guess I'm part of the family for good now I hope it'll be able to handle my audio and video editing needs :O

Ordered mine CTO the day they came out. A 17 inch core i7 with 8GB, 512SSD, glossy, with applecare. It is replacing the current 17 inch core2 duo 2.8 with 500 7200rpm., 8GB system (sold already).
