It's only ever asked me the location I work at and the name of the company. I've ordered a few Macs through it and Apple have never contacted me to verify my employment status or asked for specific details to verify with the company...

Crazy!

I shipped to her company aswell but I think I could have easily put any shipping address. Oh well, now the wait begins!

Ordered Yesterday

Just ordered my MBP yesterday. It should be delivered sometime next week. I can't wait for it to get here and am very thankful to all of you who helped me in making my decision! I don't think I would have been able to wait without those 7 threads.

Here is what I got:

15" i7 Hi-Res screen
7200rpm 500gb
2x4GB RAM (Purchased on Newegg)
iPad 16GB Wi-Fi

Now I just need the price for the SSD's to come down.

Thanks again folks!! I'm sure I'll come back often to this site as the questions start rolling in. This is the second MBP I own which I've purchased myself. (My first was 2-years old when I got it. MBP 1,1) I'm looking forward to enjoying the unibody design and long battery life.

Just ordered a 15" i7, 500GB 7200rpm HD, hi-res anti-glare with applecare.Found a reseller that discounted it so the apple care was equivalent to free.

Replacing an October 06 c2d.

Going from a mid-2006 20'' iMac + 2003 Dell Inspiron 600m to a new setup of 13'' MBP + 16GB Wifi iPad. I'm excited and slightly terrified at having spent $1159 on a laptop. This is my first MBP. :)

Okay, I'm in. Couldn't wait any longer...

First Mac ever...!

Always a PC user I have been, how wrong I was...
Not really needing a new computer, always wanted a Mac (Apple, Macintosh, however you want to call it)...Was waiting for the upgrade, tireless...and it came, and I bought into it!
Got the i7 15". Do I really need such a beast? Maybe not.
Am I going to use it to its full power (maybe at times)?
Is it expensive? Sure.
Is it overpriced, could (should, would) I have bought a PC with similar o even better specs for less money? For sure.
Am I crazy for spending this money now? Most likely.
Most important, do I deserve to have the pleasure to work with such a marvel? Sure I do ! Then I got it !
Got to give it to Steve, getting such a sleek version Unixese/linuxese so polished...!
Cheers to all !
K
:)

I ordered :

13inch Low end

with 128 GB SSD

This will be my first mac, I am very happy and cant wait !

Can't wait to hear how yours turns out (particularly with the SSD), since I'm getting a similar setup.

Just ordered the following:

-13" 2.4 GHz w/ 256 GB SSD
-1 TB Time Capsule
-Apple Care

-"Replacing" an AMD-based HP laptop from about 2 years ago (will still hang on to it for those times I've got to dip back into Windows)

We bought our first Mac last August -- a 24" iMac. The wife and I absolutely fell in love with it, and we have no regrets that we pulled the trigger a couple months before the 27" version came out (which I don't think would fit on our desk anyway). The iMac is wonderful, and will probably remain our primary machine at home, but I wanted to be able to take a Mac traveling with me somehow, so I've been looking forward to this update. As a bonus, this MBP will make it so we can both use a Mac at the same time, and the Time Capsule should take care of all of our primary backup needs.

Looking forward to delivery!

Thanks, everyone, for your help!

After buying our family's first MBP and promptly handing it to my university-bound son last summer, I finally bought one for myself!!

Would have had deer-in-headlights confusion if not for the spirited, intelligent discussion I've been lurking in on here--so I wanted to say thanks to you all for your passion and insight. Walked in to Apple store, bought 17" hi-res antiglare, i7, 8GB, 500GB/5400RPM [it would have taken two weeks to order 7200], with iWork, One-to-One, Pro Care, Apple Care, and MobileMe. I didn't leave much on the table, other than not springing for SSD.

While I may not have followed your collective recommendations or the consensus--what ever it may be!--at least I wasn't completely a stranger in a strange land: I was armed with all your arguments, pro and con, and hopefully will not suffer cognitive dissonance too badly!

UPDATE:
Not knowing what the future may hold, my general policy when buying electronics is to get the highest-end device I can afford, so I lost sleep over succumbing to sales pressure of "we have the 5400 RPM in stock". Returned the above and ordered the 7200 RPM--after waiting this long, what's another couple of weeks? I told them to take it away and bring me the grilled cheese sandwich appetizers they talked me out of!

Just bought the 15" Core i5 base model.

I am loving it.

I'm glad i opted for this over the 13", the extra screen space is so worth it, not to mention the processor and graphics upgrade.

In my opinion, I would go for the low end 15". I like to think about the value of a product down the road, and i'm sure you would like to have the same laptop during your undergraduate years. With that said, I think apple will change to the i5 for the 13" in the next update. And I think the term Core 2 duo will fade away soon, and the mainstream will be the i3, i5, and i7 world. The better graphics capabilities in the 15" will be a plus if you need to plug into a much larger external monitor. and i'm sure the 15" screen will benefit if you want to see as much code as possible on it. Just be careful of the many cups of coffee, bottles of mountain dew, or cans of red bull that your new laptop may encounter, pssst...get the extended warranty because stuff happens at college:)

The increased graphic capabilities for a larger display will not be noticed if all the guy is doing is development work. IDEs are not graphic intensive.

:(

so this is what i ordered on Tuesday morning and i just barely got my shipping alert today, i got the 2-3 day shipping but the estimated time of delivery is for this thursday. :( anybody else get shafted this badly time wise? it is a petty complaint but i will be asking for a refund on my shipping. If i lived close to an Apple store i would have bought it there but i had to use the online apple store.

I picked up my 15" 2.53Ghz MPB yesterday at my local Apple store. Funny story, I had called in the morning and they told me they didn't have the higher specc 15" i5's, but they would get a shipment around noon. I rolled into the store around 2ish, and they informed me that my laptop was fresh off the truck. It felt good. I got the glossy screen and I love it, this thing screams. :D

I also placed my order on Tuesday morning with expedited shipping. Fortunately my precious is in the air, with a Tuesday delivery.

my 15" i5 2.4ghz Hi-Res Glossy macbook pro has left China and is currently in transit!

Currently regretting not buying the expedited shipping. Need to learn patience!

ive got the 2.4 ghz 13" mbp in the mail. i upgraded the hd to 500gb because i have so many music and video files. this is my first mac. cant wait to start using it.:D

wow, hope he doesn't just do development work on his macbook, that would be a boring college life:)

Picked up a 15" i7 with hi-res anti-glare today. Loving it. First laptop since the original Powerbook G4 Ti (which still works - if I could find a power adapter for it). Directly replaces a G5 iMac which is showing its age a little.

Finally! Just placed an order for the new 15" MBP base model with the hi-res matte screen. Estimated shipping is 1-3 bus. days. I was at the local store in scottsdale today hoping to pick it up retail. Unfortunately, they were only carrying the high-end 15" MBP with hi-res matte.

Well worth the wait!

I'm not crazy about the 320 GB 5400 RPM hard drive but just couldn't justify the apple hd upgrade tax. It's just too much. If anyone has any suggestions for 3rd party hd upgrades, suggestions welcome.

Ah can't wait to get my student card so I can buy the 15" i7 !
I just hope the delivery won't take 7-10 days as it says in the checkout

Got my 17" 2.53 i5 high res Friday. First impression... magnificent.
Also bought the 24" LED display. Will be giving the combination a good working out over the weekend. But thus far, after a day of "normal" duties, everything is perfect.
