Actual Batter Life

Hi All,

Long time watcher, (7 months while waiting for this update) and first time poster.

I finally have my mid-level 15in MBP in hand. Got it on Tuesday afternoon in Boston. Anyone know what I should expect in actual battery life from this bad girl? I have a hard time believing that I am going to get 8 hours.

Thanks

I got home with mine yesterday... a shiny new 17" i5.

I got it set up and oogled the screen. After I looked at the mac migration application and was surprised to see I could move everything from my macbook to my new pro over the wireless network, insane.

Unfortunately it decided to take 12 hours(pretty much my fault for picking the wireless option rather than connecting them) but it locked my computer into migrating mode and I couldn't really use it till this morning.

I just love OSX... I'm always tempted by specs to just give up and get a viao but god every time I use OSX I remember why it is worth the money.

Just ordered

17" i5 Macbook Pro
Antiglare display
500gb @7200RPM

States shipping will be between 1-3 days but on my confirmation it states expect delivery 28th or 29th April =(

I ordered a 13" inch base MBP with 500gb SATA Drive. I had decided a long time ago to get the 15 inch model but I consider the 13" better when it comes to quality versus price. Also for a DJ I think 13" is the best option since there is 2 USB ports in both 13 and 15 inch models anyway and weight/size is important factor.

ETA for my FIRST MAC is on 27th of April. It has been a blast to wait with you guys. I will update when Sandy Bridge is out, so we will meet again on that thread :p

Went to the Apple Store yesterday and picked up the base model 13inch MBP.
First time MAC user and all I can say is WOW.

Excited!

After spending the day debating between the 15" hi-res and 17" (which I currently have), I decided to go for the 15"HiRes(Glossy)/2.66Ghz i7/8Gb RAM/512Gb SSD.

Interestingly the estimated shipping on the 15" is 4 days while on the 17" it was 3 days. Should arrive before 30 April - too long.

I wish Apple would offer customisation in-store for both HDD and RAM - both are user serviceable so there's no reason the in-store techs couldn't carry out the work.

I traded my 13" MBP for $1,000 dollars at Simply Mac towards a 15" i7 MBP. Didnt get the high res. Later I may trade it in or one but since i use an external monitor 99% of the time when i design it may not matter to me.

So far? Loving the speed increase.

did u get the 2.53 Ghz? is it capable of 3.0 Ghz? i want to order that one tonight, but not sure if it is. can you clarify for me?

Best purchase EVER!

Just got my first Mac today! And I must say they are AMAZING!!! Such a shame I was stuck with a PC all these days.

I got the cheapest 15" and it surpasses my expectations by far! Besides the fact that i'm having a hard time transferring my files, I am so happy with it! If your thinking about getting one JUST GET IT!

Ah I'm so jealous of all you lucky people. D: I had been planning on buying my new Macbook in a few days with the help of my dad, but the card he was going to buy it with suddenly had it's limit dropped by thoussannnddsss so he doesn't want to risk using it. Drat! Guess I got to save in full. 8D I guess it'll be fun to have $2k in cash.

I went to one of the local Apple Stores today to compare the glossy screen and anti-glare screen side by side. They didn't have any 15" anti-glare screen on display, but they DID have a 17" glossy and 17" anti-glare on display side by side. My expectation was that I'd feel the color on anti-glare screen was dull and lifeless compared to the glossy. FAR FROM IT! I found the anti-glare screen to be just as rich and vibrant, only without the glare! The only difference I really noticed was that blacks were slightly darker on the glossy screen. I brought up a few of my own website on the two side by side screen and compared from all angles. I immediately determined that I had ordered the wrong screen from the Apple Store online. I whipped out my iPhone, logged onto the Apple Store, and cancelled the 15" high res glossy i7 I had on order.

Then the exciting news.... A sales guy came over and I explained what I had just done. He explained that they had just received some 15" high res anti-glare i7 MacBook Pros. That was EXACTLY the model I was going to order when I got home through my employer's Apple Store site. The sales guy then explained that they can exactly match the prices on my employer's Apple Store site. So.... I walked out of the store with a shiny new MacBook Pro 2.66GHz i7 with 15" anti-glare screen under my arm! :)

I also took advantage of the $100 rebate offer for a printer purchased at the same time. I got the employer discount price of $95.99 on the printer so, after tax, it cost me $104. I'm going to sell the printer to someone local for about $75 (new in box), making a $70 profit after rebate. (The same printer is currently selling on Amazon for $99.99.)

All in all, it was a good day! :)

Base model 15" core i5
Incase hardshell
Moshi palm guard :)

Arrives next week hopefully.

Fark what a wait and now I feel so relieved.

Stock i7 15". I am THRILLED.

EDIT: First few characters I've typed on my new Mac :)

The screen is gorgeous, the speakers own the hell out of my whitebook's, and boy, is this bitch fast!

hi, please i want some one to help me with taking my decision, i'm a 12th grader and next year i'll be entering the university and i'll be entering the computer science major. So i need a laptop, and for sure i'll be sticking with a macbook pro. But i don't know which one i have to choose, the high end 13 or the low end 15 ? and is there a difference in performance between them ? plus if their is any computer science grad, do i need high graphics performance for that major ? or i have to care for the performance only ? thank you.

Went to local Apple Store and picked up the base 15" MacBook Pro i5 2.4 GHz. It's like a breath of fresh air after using my 6 year old bogged down 20" iMac G4. I'm also amazed at it's speed. I saw a 15" MBP with the antiglare screen in the store, and the resolution is ridiculously tiny. I don't think I'd ever need to use that fine a resolution, and if I did, I'd get an external monitor. Overall, I'm really happy with mine.

wooo

Ordered the base model 13" Pro.

Expected delivery date is 4th May which is pretty poor, but looking forward to it. Was tempted to get the 15", but the base 15" is no way worth the 500 quid difference, I would go for the high end 15" and the upgraded screen if I went for it, and that would put me close if not at the 17" price so in the end, meh..

Only want it to run the occasional game; Baldur's gate, Diablo 1, 2, and I hope 3. Warcraft 3, WOW.etc. Will purchase an external monitor if the size bothers me that much.

This will be an upgrade from my poor Blackbook, which I ended up selling last year.

In my opinion, I would go for the low end 15". I like to think about the value of a product down the road, and i'm sure you would like to have the same laptop during your undergraduate years. With that said, I think apple will change to the i5 for the 13" in the next update. And I think the term Core 2 duo will fade away soon, and the mainstream will be the i3, i5, and i7 world. The better graphics capabilities in the 15" will be a plus if you need to plug into a much larger external monitor. and i'm sure the 15" screen will benefit if you want to see as much code as possible on it. Just be careful of the many cups of coffee, bottles of mountain dew, or cans of red bull that your new laptop may encounter, pssst...get the extended warranty because stuff happens at college:)

I agree, if you can throw in the extra money, get the hi res screen, either in the glossy or antiglare. There may be programs where you will need to see things in a higher than normal detail. I bought the base 15 without the hi res and I am still happy, but I'm not a science major who has access to all of the technology of a university.

Just ordered 15" i7 with 7200rpm drive, standard res glossy.

Bye bye PowerbookG4!

I used my wife's company discount EPP and at no point did it ask about any credentials as to an employee number or anything. How do they validate that you are indeed an employee??

It's only ever asked me the location I work at and the name of the company. I've ordered a few Macs through it and Apple have never contacted me to verify my employment status or asked for specific details to verify with the company...
