I am still on te fence between the base 15" with and without hi res/antiglare. I'm confindent it will suffice for my needs. It will be used mainly for excel, word processing, web surfing, watching movies, itunes, very casual gaming(AOE,HoN), photoshop, aperture, and a couple engineering programs(solidworks, reservoir modeling). The extra resolution would be nice I believe, but is it worth it for $150?

I'm wondering the same thing, whether or not I should get hi res/antiglare.

What do you use yours for mainly? I was a tad worried that upping the resolution would decrease the performance when running things like games and some more demanding programs.

Apart from what you posted (minus the engineering) I'm working on 3D modeling and I use Final Cut Studio as well.

I usually have two browsers opened side-by-side and email, IM, everything open in different spaces; the higher the resolution, the more I can see when I allocated the same visual space for windows.

That's not to mention things look sharper.

17" Inch standard

I am a web/graphic designer(mostly web). Other than work it will be used for living room internet surfing possibly occasional steam games when released but I don't think very much. As well as enthusiast level photograph editing.

I'm picking mine up in less than an hour if all goes well.

Why do you have to wait until the 28th? I got a BTO and it said it should be here between Friday of this week and Wednesday of next.

Indeed. Well I ordered a printer too. BTO MBP had 3 day shipping and printer was on 24h. I guess 3 days + 24h + walking from China = 15 Days.

hi, is the macbook pro 2.4 Ghz with i5 a good choice ?! and do you prefer a 13" or a 15" ? and i'm am gonna study computer science next year, which one is better 15" or 13" (as a screen size and processor)?! plus is their a significant difference between the high-end 13" and the low-end 15" ?

As someone who studied comp-sci and works in the industry, I would recommend the larger screen size and the faster processor that the 15" MBP offers. I prefer a bigger screen so I can see more code. If you are working w/ multiple, intensive applications, the processor power will help. (defiintely the case with using vmware, etc.)

For homework programming and compsci projects, the compile time is going to be negligible unless you get into some crazy large libraries with your upper level course work/projects.

Also, I would recommend a multi boot system. In general, in my experience, most real development takes place in a Windows or linux environment. (I do like the macbook pro's physical design, so I basically use a MBP with a dual boot setup.)

Good luck to you.

Its that new iMat or iWall.

Still laughing out loud :D

17" Core i7, glossy, 4GB

HDD bay: Corsair F100 SSD
Optical bay: 500gb 7200rpm (stock) HDD

I'm an engineer now doing a postdoc. I will use it for data post-processing (Matlab), publishing (LaTeX, Adobe CS5), and light video production (iMovie). Since I'm going from a CD 1.8Ghz, I imagine I will be doing a lot more video now, just because it won't take an hour to encode 3 minutes of HD video in iMovie. I really like the 17" ability to truly work with 2 full-page documents side-by-side.

It should scream. I ran out of $$ for my ideal machine, with 8GB and a 200GB SSD, unfortunately, but that can be remedied in the future.

Good luck. Ordered the same exact config yesterday 20 minutes after the store opened. Still has not even been prepared for shipment.

Anybody have their customized order go from 'Not yet shipped' to some other order status?

2.53GHz Intel Core i5
4GB 1066MHZ DDR3 SDRM - 2X2GB
500GB 7200rpm hard drive
15" HiRes Glossy Display

ordered around 1pm pacific on 4/13:
"Ships: 2 - 4 Business days
Delivers: Apr 16 - Apr 22"

I ordered the high end 13" yesterday. Need to wait until next week before delivery. But afterwards I wondered why I didn't go for the entry 13" MBP?

Last generation's MBPs, there was a difference perhaps worth paying for, but now all this extra basically just for a few more MHz?

Cancel and re-order perhaps...

I highly suggest you do. With the money savings, you could invest in a SSD that will give you more performance increase for the money.

I am getting a base model with 15" HR Glossy replacement from my Early-2008 MBP today. Apparently there isn't any unit with HR in the UK.

Anyone with some information about the 2.4GHz MBP BTO arriving in the UK?
