New 15" uMBP purchase!!

Ordered up my new Macbook Pro today, the high end 15" to replace my old white Macbook which is now going to my father. Been waiting for ages to order one but really happy with the new update, cant wait for it to get here now, I have even cleared and cleaned my desk work area at home ready for it.

My old Macbook was 2.4Ghz // 2GB // 160GB which was good for what I wanted at the time, tons and tons of HTML/CSS and Rails in TextMate. Cant wait to get to grips with my new Pro coming in at 2.8Ghz // 4GB // 500GB 7200 // 512MB grahpics. Just looking to find a decent bag now for it, found some nice Crumpler ones that look nice.

Anyways just had to post about it, I'm sooooo excited!! I will of course (in true MacWhore fashion) post some unboxing pics when it arrives.

Very nice and thanks for the pics. The screen is quite nice (finally).

For real.

OK. thanks. I like the look of the 13" without the grills. It looks clean and minimalist. i reckon the 13 MBP is going to be a BIG hit :D

12" Powerbook didn't have speaker grills. I was a 12" PB user, so i'm hoping this will be the replacement I have been looking for. Mine should be coming tomorrow, friday at the latest.

Thanks for the photos. This is the 13" machine that should have shipped last year. I exchanged my 13" MB for a 15" MBP because of the horrible display last year. This new machine looks like a keeper. Hopefully, the local AS gets some machines in stock today.

There are no speaker grills on the 13" MBP or MBA. The sound radiates through the cut outs for the keyboard keys.

Anyone notice that the battery says 60W hours, but in the specs for the machine Apple lists the battery as 58 Wh. I'll take a couple extra watt-hours thank you.

Just out of curiosity why do you need three laptops? A 13, 15, and 17 just seems like overkill. Of course I'm green with envy, but I was just wondering.

im kind of worried about a single fan on the 2.53 model....

my dual fan mbp 2.4 can hit 60C under load on the 9400m

will this single fan do ?

Dunno the OP's reason, but I have 3 at the moment also, 2x 17"s and 1x15". Use it for work and back-up. Just a bit of a Mac whoreder :D:D

I just bought the last model 15" uMBP with a replaceable battery a month ago, I love the fact that it has the Express Card Slot and user replaceable battery .... among other things. I sort of hoped they would have had a 13" MBP at the time.

Yeah I knew WWDC was on the horizon, but it was all that I wanted.

The good thing is .... when I bought my uMBP I was going to buy the upper end uMB for my daughter for School. Not liking the display, I convinced her to wait another month or so and I would get her the 15" uMBP.

Well not it looks like we will be getting a 13" uMBP for her .... I only hope she has the willpower to tell me NO when I try to talk her into swapping with me.

Nice job Apple did with these.

What I need to do now is upgrade my iMac so I can take advantage of OpenCL in Snow Leopard.

Congrats on the purchase!

I'm interested in why you chose this model? Why the High end and not the others?

Screen is fantastic nice and bright. Should be able to see stuff now when im in the garden.

I've got flourescent strip lighting in my office and the 'perfect' screen is reflecting quite a bit.

I've also taken off my cuff links as not to scratch the palm rest. :D

What im guessing is the microphone grill is top left of the keyboard and almost looks like dried liquid on the nice metallic finish. I keep trying to rub it off

So far everything seems perfect. No dead pixels, speakers have much more body to them than my RevA White MacBook.

New track pad takes bit to get used to, but thats only because its new.

I get my brand new macbook pro 13" next monday (I was certain I would get it by this Friday, but for some reason it has been stuck in China for 2 days and the estimated delivery date is now next Monday.. arghh...)
I bought 4gb or Ram online too and will install it as soon as I get the laptop.

I just need to buy the right screw driver.. I dont think I have any small one's that'd fit to open the bottom cover. Oh well.. nothing a trip to Wal Mart cant solve...

Do I just open the bottom cover and just install the RAM or is there a more complex process involved?

I too just received my new 13" MBP.

Mine has a Fujitsu MJA2160BH disk and a very nice LP133WX3-TLA1 display panel.

Does anyone else find that the optical drive vibrates at speed more than most laptops? I wonder if it is more rigidly mounted in the unibody than in previous Macbooks.

What HDD are you using, I am planning on a 500GB as well?

A friend has the uMB and was amazed at all of the sound coming from the speaker, as he pointed to the tiny microphone hole. He was sad when I explained that the speaker was at the hinge

The main purpose of this will be for work and freelance, web design and code monkey applications, some image re-touching. I usually work on high res imagery and wanted something that would surpass what I need at this time and see me 2-3 years into the future, in respect of using for my creative applications I wanted the bigger graphics card and of course for some gaming :p
