Sound is OK but I can't compare it...seems like the low end is missing a bit. I like there is no speaker holes though.

I love the sound from my 15" Macbook Pro. The 2 things that sold me this laptop was the screen quality and sound. At the time I would have bought the 13" but the screen quality and sound quality put me off from buying it. This 15" that I have is just too big to carry around with me and take along on flights so I am back at looking at 13" Macbook Pros now.

Hard to imagine how a $1000+ laptop these days which has Itunes on it for listening to music and watching movies comes with worse speakers then some cheap China made mobile phones:( I use Skype often and there is nothing worse then a pair of bad speakers on a laptop computer.

Screen 9CBD

So is screen 9CBD a brand new screen number or is this the exact same screen that has been shipping since the end of April secretly in the 'older' macbook unibodies?

I am fine with either way b/c that screen was the macbook air screen, which was absolutely a wonderful screen. If so, then the 60% color gamut increase was just marketing hype. I'm glad that they put in a better screen, but I don't think that there's reason to believe that the 15" macbook pro screen will actually be any better than it already is.

Standard. I really want my new MBP, but I wasn't in a big big rush. I ordered a Cinema Display in the same order, so I felt better by choosing the cheapest shipping option lol.

interesting how you chose standard shipping, i chose 2-3 day, yet mine was delayed? i pay extra money to get it sooner and they delay it. when i recieve it im definatly calling up and complaining, maybe ill get a free itunes gift card or something :p

Well with confirmation that the screens are Macbook Air screens, I think this just makes the base model Macbook pro 13 incher a huge value leader in the entire notebook world. I don't think that it's overpriced at all anymore.

7200rpm

So can a 7200 RPM drive be put on these 13" models? Apple's custom configurations on their web site don't offer the 7200 RPM drive, only for the 15" and 17".

Can? Yes! But I have heard some of those drives take more battery life, and make more noise. But not always. Just make sure you get a good drive. :D

I get my brand new macbook pro 13" next monday (I was certain I would get it by this Friday, but for some reason it has been stuck in China for 2 days and the estimated delivery date is now next Monday.. arghh...)
I bought 4gb or Ram online too and will install it as soon as I get the laptop.

I just need to buy the right screw driver.. I dont think I have any small one's that'd fit to open the bottom cover. Oh well.. nothing a trip to Wal Mart cant solve...

Do I just open the bottom cover and just install the RAM or is there a more complex process involved?

Yes, that's all there is to it, very easy.

Though one screw hole for me was a little tight when getting the screw back in.

You only have 90 days from the purchase date to purchase applecare. So you have until roughly the second week of September. With the shipping, just wait until the status changes to shipped, and you will know exactly when it will arrive by using the tracking number...

You have a year to buy applecare from purchase of computer, i have done it with my last three macs and it will always be that policy.

I'm trying to decide what to do...Help please.

I ordered and paid for my new 15 inch MBP on June 1st. Received it on June 5th. Used the local PeachMac store.

My MBP is very nice. Upgraded processor (I believe to 2.93). Upgraded RAM, to 4. Upgraded HD. Applecare.

But...there's the new versions...which are a good bit less expensive and/or a good bit more upgraded than what I've got for about the same money.

While I certainly understand the realities of constantly improving technologies I wonder if I should return my MBP while I still can and upgrade (assuming they'll take it back with the upgrades).

Then there's the already installed Fusion and Windows. I assume I'd have to buy another Fusion. Windows I'm not sure about.

Advice would be welcomed.

Thanks,

Jim

Ordered up my new Macbook Pro today, the high end 15" to replace my old white Macbook which is now going to my father. Been waiting for ages to order one but really happy with the new update, cant wait for it to get here now, I have even cleared and cleaned my desk work area at home ready for it.

My old Macbook was 2.4Ghz // 2GB // 160GB which was good for what I wanted at the time, tons and tons of HTML/CSS and Rails in TextMate. Cant wait to get to grips with my new Pro coming in at 2.8Ghz // 4GB // 500GB 7200 // 512MB grahpics. Just looking to find a decent bag now for it, found some nice Crumpler ones that look nice.

Anyways just had to post about it, I'm sooooo excited!! I will of course (in true MacWhore fashion) post some unboxing pics when it arrives.

Crumpler is the BEST, have had a Hee-Goer for five years now, used it first with an ibook, then with a macbook, it can even fit my new macbook pro, but ended up buying a new crumpler sinking barge(photo-laptop masterpiece) but will have now a computer/photo backpack, and a great messenger bag, very durable, mine has been around the world and people still say it looks new(really)

OMG...i have a hard time watching cnet they are wrong about so many things....he got the price wrong and said that the battery would stop working after 1,000 charges...apple said you would see decreased performance after 1,000 charges, but should still expect capacity to be at 80%!!!!! that's a huge diff
