Ugh, why do you have to wait so many extra days for them to put in a stupid 7200 RPM hard drive?

Apple has extremely few build to order options on their machines, for the MBP 17" there's a total of 32 combinations (Dell has more unique laptop MODELS than that). Since they're shipping hundreds of thousands of these, can't they just pile up a few ready-made combinations on the shelf? Do they have to look at each individual order and go "Hey look everyone! This guy wants an extra 4 GB memory!! It finally happened! Halt all production and let's all come together and assemble this one extraordinary specimen, our first customized Mac in history."

12" Powerbook didn't have speaker grills. I was a 12" PB user, so i'm hoping this will be the replacement I have been looking for. Mine should be coming tomorrow, friday at the latest.

didn't the 12" have speaker grills in the back pointing at the display, like the ibooks.

Darnit, I ordered mine with SSD, so it doesn't ship until the 25th. I am so jealous of everyone getting their comp already. :p

I'm trying to decide what to do...Help please.

I ordered and paid for my new 15 inch MBP on June 1st. Received it on June 5th. Used the local PeachMac store.

My MBP is very nice. Upgraded processor (I believe to 2.93). Upgraded RAM, to 4. Upgraded HD. Applecare.

But...there's the new versions...which are a good bit less expensive and/or a good bit more upgraded than what I've got for about the same money.

While I certainly understand the realities of constantly improving technologies I wonder if I should return my MBP while I still can and upgrade (assuming they'll take it back with the upgrades).

Then there's the already installed Fusion and Windows. I assume I'd have to buy another Fusion. Windows I'm not sure about.

Advice would be welcomed.

Thanks,

Jim

Sounds like you bought from a 3rd party seller so Apple retunr policy means nothing for you. If you bought from Apple you would have to pay the 10% restocking fee since it was a BTO. If you bought a non user config model it would be a free swap within the 14 day return period. Call the store you bought from and check their return policy.

Why didn't you buy a SSD and install it yourself? You could save money but also get the latest gen SSD technology that is much better than the apple SSD drives. The technology changes every other week and the current drives out are far ahead.

Two reasons.

First, I'm a retard.

Second, I didn't think the apple SSD's were that bad.

Third, see first.

They won't have holes for the firewire or sd slots.
I didn't really think about that, but buy the looks of it, it seems like it may work just fine:

Unless you need the secure slot (for a lock). It's been moved next to the DVD drive.

He came after the fedex ground, UPS, and USPS man but he finally arrived.

Anyone reporting the slanted keys issue the aluminum Macbook had? I have slanted keys(all the keys are slanted, not just the F Keys) on mine and they bother the crap out of me. If the new "Pro" doesn't have this problem I will have to get one and give the old one to the wife!

OMG...i have a hard time watching cnet they are wrong about so many things....he got the price wrong and said that the battery would stop working after 1,000 charges...apple said you would see decreased performance after 1,000 charges, but should still expect capacity to be at 80%!!!!! that's a huge diff

I know I find it funny how major tech blogs/sites aimed at consumers are generally just clueless, not good at giving advice to people that don't know allot about technology. Cnets a great example, along with PC Mag and some others.

Now open for questions: In my hands, a brand new 15" Macbook Pro

I just got home and am typing this on my brand new 15" macbook pro.
Didn't see many posts about this model. I got the one with the 9400gm for $1599 student discount.

I'll save you the trouble, though. It's basically the same exact notebook as the last gen unibody except for the SD card slot and the longer battery life.

Screen appears exactly the same to me.

I was not sure which macbook pro to get, and I usually buy a better gpu, but I decided that honestly I have not played a 3d game in a long, long time. So I just bought the 15" base model.

The 13" model was tempting soley b/c of the price, but I lifted both next to each other and the weight was not that much different at all, to my surprise. I decided that the 15" would be worth it, even though it was a $500 premium.
