Ok so I'm starting college in about 2 months (yeah!) and I will have enough money left over after tuition, classes, books, and expenses are paid, to get a macbook (and a car wewt!).

I was eyeballing the 13" for a LONG TIME...TILL TODAY!

2 hours ago I logged on the Macbook site and nearly crapped my pants!

Im going to get the 15" 2.66 model! I cant BELIEVE THEY DROPPED THE PRICE AND UPPED THE VALUE!

OMG IM NEVER GOING BACK TO PC!

Thank You Apple!!!

Welcome to college! *hands a beer*

Right some replies; My apologies I have been out to dinner with work.

1. I have no crooked or wonkey keys.
2. They have improved the keyboard and it feels the same as my 15& 17.
3. I love new toys and have had every revision of macs since my first powerbook.
4. I upgrade very frequently.
5. I have 3 machines minimum as I travel a lot my 17" is my movie baby and my 13" is my knock around along with the 15" which I use to play wow on mainly.
6. Never owned a desktop as I hate being tied to a desk, thats not true I have an imac which the wife uses exclusively.
7. 8gb of ram , why not I might as well try it.
8. I am actually English, not American.
9. The screen so far defiantly seems better and the colours nicer then my 15".

Just got home with one from the Yorkdale Apple Store.

Damnit! I was there last night and decided to screw it and just order it online. Ah well, I SUPPOSE I can wait a couple days :'(

I'll be happy I got the HDD upgrade in the end I guess...

Might be Godsend for you. After playing around with mine in the dark, I noticed a slight bright bleeding at the right bottom of the screen. It's not much but knowing and seeing other's screens here, I think I am going to bring it back for an exchange. They better not give me a hassle at the Apple Store tomorrow. Do you think they'll charge me re-stocking fee?
:(

I am so pissed that I didn't bother taking a picture, I just wrapped it back to it's box. Man, talk about being unlucky. I really like the screen overall, no dead pixels, no dust under the screen except for the damn bleed!!! :(

If it makes you feel any better, I bought one at my Apple store today, and opened it all up to find a pretty significant dent on the bottom. I packed it all back up to take up there tomorrow. :(

It makes me feel better...I also found a slight scratch on the bottom which didn't bother me much not like the screen. I am now wondering about the QC on these batches.

Me too, except I got the slower processor. it's still gonna be a pretty sweet machine. :)

I still wish Apple computers were always perfect, though. I can think of a number of things I'd rather spend $200 on than AppleCare. (We all know the 13" MBP's use MacBook-priced AppleCare, and that AppleCare itself is a boxed retail product which you can buy anywhere, typically at a good savings over buying direct from Apple, right? I'm going to order from amazon for $200 but I wouldn't if I was a student since it's only $183)

be careful though, don't buy applecare from ebay unless they will mail you the box, they might use code generators, or buy it and e-mail you the code and cancel it, or something shady like that.... after you already left feedback no less. actual apple authorized resellers are always good.

I am new to Mac also; if you don't include the 1st Mac my dad bought in 1985. Anyway I just ordered a new 13" MBP through the Apple education website. Too bad they don't ship from One Infinite Loop in Cupertino, as I live 2 miles from there. I can't wait!!

ARGH! May be up to a week before I get my MBP :(

This is torture, but I just HAD to have that 250GB HDD! I'll be happier in the end, but knowing I could walk to my Apple Store and get a stock one right away...I'm going insane! Why can't they carry common upgrade configs in stores?! At least I'll have my new iPod Touch to hold me over, but it's just not the same.

That's what I was thinking. I remember buying my 12" iBook at a retail store and waiting for them to install the Airport Extreme card (which I had to pay an extra $100 for ) in the back room. Why can't they just keep some hard drives in storage and swap them for you while you wait?

I just ordered my 2.53GHz 13" MBP with 256GB SSD. Have to wait 1-2 weeks for it to ship :( oh wellllllll

Some say most people don't post when they are happy, so I thought I would do just that. I ordered a Uni MBP 17" a bit back, and wanted to express my (almost) complete satisfaction. Funny thing, I also got a new ($1700) windoze laptop for work the same week, so I was able to a chance to experience both. I thought I might do a side by side, but then changed my mind. The truth is, they are simply not in the same league. The MBP makes me happy. I tolerate the PC. I like to talk about the MBP. I'd rather forget about the PC.

The MBP: Its the base 17" unit with an upgrade to the 7200rpm 320 HD.

Quiet. Rarely hear the hard drive. Even less the fans. Really the only time I hear anything is the groan it makes while awaking from sleep. Lasts only a moment.

Heat - No noticeable heat unless I am running something like Hulu (flash) and both cores are really pumping for a while. I ran a temp gauge for a week and never saw temps get out of control.

Sleep - As a laptop, I LOVE how it "sleeps without a peep" when I close the lid. Just like magic. Open the lid and it quickly awakes, ready to go. About as seamless as I could imagine. The magnetic locking is simply fantastic.

OS X - Not a single lock up or crash (of course)

The trackpad - simply brilliant. Nice and big. The PC feels like a cheap toy after this. I can do 80% of my web surfing with 2 and 3 finger gestures. The three finger swipe to go back and forward is wonderful. I like being able to change text size with a pinch. Wow. I do find the pad a tad stiffer than I would like, but overall it's great.

The glossy screen. Hmm. slightly mixed feelings. In most situations, I like it. Biggest problem is running on battery with the screen brightness reduced where there are lots of reflections. Sometimes it does get difficult to see. I can "over power" this by increasing screen brightness, but of course, at reduced battery life.

Speaking of the battery - brilliant run times.

Fit and finish? simply beautiful. flawless. what else can I say?

So there ya go. not perfect, but close. peace out.

I tried to buy one but the woman at the Apple store wouldn't let me. I honestly felt like Jonah Hill in The 40 Year Old Virgin when he was trying to buy the boots at the eBay store.

me: do you have the new 13" MBP?
her: yes we do, they're instock and for sale but we don't have them on display yet.
me: that's fine i don't need to see it, can i get the 2.53ghz model?
her: yes but it's gonna be about a 45 minute wait for a specialist.
me: i don't really need to see one, i'm not new to macs and i'm kinda crunched for time.
her: well it's still gonna be about 45 minutes.
me: i don't really have time to wait, i need to be at work soon.
her: you could possibly come back tomorrow when you have more time?
me: i just drove 45 minutes to buy this computer, i have my money ready, i've researched what i want to buy, if i wanted to get the computer tomorrow i would have bought it online yesterday. can't you just borrow that guys credit card thing and sell me the laptop?
her: well you need to see a specialist so they can tell you about the promotions and things going on with the computer. if you want you can hang around as long as you can and i can see what i can do?
me: whatever, i'll be over here.

i waited half an hour before i had to leave for work empty handed. gonna give it another shot today.

lol! Sorry for laughing. That sucks, but it's kinda funny at the same time. Sounds like a good time to ask for the manager.

You're a good sport about it. That is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. Why can't you just buy something and just leave? It's an easy sale for them. Sometimes people are overtrained. My guy was a total tool as well.
