By applications bar I presume you're talking about the menu bar at the top of the screen? That's where you choose settings for the program you're running. It won't disappear unless you're running a full screen program. Check this link out: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2473

Nope I meant the bar at the bottom, or is it called your desktop or something? Anyway don't worry, I've found out how to do it. I love this computer so much I can't put it into words. Coming from a terrible Windows that took about a minute to boot up Chrome this is hilariously fast. It took me 5 minutes to install all of iWork. Even stuff like hooking up a printer was so easy. Simply amazing, can't believe I was considering buying another Windows.

Oh its called the "dock". Anyway, glad to hear that you're so happy with your mac, welcome to the apple family!

A week and a half ago I received a brand new 13" Macbook Pro as a prize from a contest that Logitech ran and I'm very impressed. In less than two weeks it's become my primary machine. All the other computers in the house, including my custom built gaming desktop and Alienware laptop, are PCs. I work in the multimedia industry and so I already knew my way around a Mac but finally having a chance to use OSx in a more casual way is really showing me the beauty to it. My desktop is pretty much being neglected unless I'm (A) gaming (B) need a lot of screen real estate or (C) need its raw power for video editing or heavy duty photoshop work.
Well played, Apple, well played. If you can ever rival a custom built PC for gaming purposes, you will have a new convert.

Gosh you are one blessed soul! A MBP as a prize? That's the best prize one could ever get!

Are you Sean or Kim? At any rate congratulations and enjoy.

I'm Sean. "Warthog" is a nickname derived from my last name ;)

Yes I guess you could say I'm pleased as punch. The main factor keeping me away from owning a Mac previously has been not being able to justify the cost. You can't really beat winning one!

how long does the shipping take? i ordered last week and it finally shipped today. shipping is supposed to take 5-7 days but its currently showing an estimated delivery of 9th october! do you usually get it before the estimate?

Just bought my first Mac - a 15" MacBook Pro

Hi all,

Just bought my first Mac and it's a 15" MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz with 2GB mem and 120GB HDD. It's a good start. Still getting used to the keyboard but I like the MBP a lot, especially the backlit keyboard. Found this forum with lots of great info etc on how to keep this thing running for another few years, if needed.

Thanks,
Michael

Welcome to the wonderful world of not having to get security updates daily, fixing your registry every couple of hours, buying and upgrading virus protection, updating drivers and codecs, etc... :D

First thing you need to do is add 2 more GB's of memory and a 7200rpm 320GB or greater HDD. For around $100 USD that will def make your Mac experience 10x better than now.

Aaaargh, so three weeks ago I ordered a spanking new MBP with antiglare screen from a local retailer. So I called yesterday to see when I could wait in front of their door with way to much money in hand.
It turns out that the order went into production TODAY, three weeks after I ordered and bought the Macbook.
So now the waiting process begins once again.

Hello Everyone!

I ordered and received my 17' Macbook Pro just one week ago. :D I have a i7 2.66 8GB system I need a work horse and this fit the bill nicely.

I have to thank this community for all of the useful and informative information that you all provide so freely.

I did my homework and I have to tell you I could not be more happy with my purchase.

I am still getting comforable with the new system (I'm a switcher) and I'm sure I'll have questions but for now I just wanted to stop in and say "THANK YOU."

1 drowned MBP means its time for a new one

Last night my wife spilt her beer into our 3 year old MBP. Sent her off to the Macstation store this morning... and they opened it and assured her the burnt smell was not normal ... LOL. So we now own a new one. Apart from shelling out the $$$ I'm more happy to be able to use the vid/audio output that the old one was crap at doing.:D
thx to Perification for the slap to the teach, the teach is obviously not of the generation of texting or social network users who chat in shorthand. The funny thing is ... I'm a business owner in Canada and we constantly struggle with our employees of an earlier generation who have been raised on texting and chat shorthand, when they use it in work related correspondence... lol .. (thats for the teach). Get over it... its a new world, PROPER english and is dead .... get used to it.

Gosh, you're real lucky. Its already 3 years and you've got new parts! Probably it can last another 3...

MacBook Pro destroys

Yes... I used to love my 23" LG Monitor, and it was way better than my old PC HDX16 screen.

Now this MacBook Pro High-Res Antiglare just made my 23" LG looks ugly and old.

I just love LED backlit screens... so much sharper than clearer + High-Res..

Sorry LG!
