I ordered my MBP 13" base model on sunday and it is due to arrive with UPS tomorrow. This will be so exciting :D

First post on this forum :). Just got my first macbook pro a few days ago and I'm loving it so far!

13.3" i7 2.8 GHz (2011 October)
8 GB RAM
750GB HDD
Intel HD 3000

I bought one from somebody on kijiji two months used for $1070 and made sure to check the required things before buying (especially checked the serial number for warranty). Doesn't seem to have any problems at all and I got the price down from his original listing of 1150 to 1070! I thought it was a steal (costs $1700 in Canada with the 15% tax where I live with 4GB Ram and the RAM upgrade would probably cost ~$40-50, for a total of $1750). What's your opinion on my purchase? Typing this out on my new MBP :)

woahhh! just ordered a refurbished MBP15"

Originally released February 2011
15.4-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit Hi-Res antiglare widescreen display, 1680-by-1050 resolution
4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
128GB Solid State Drive
8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Intel HD Graphics 3000 and AMD Radeon HD 6750M

$1,899

... I tortured myself with the whole buy vs wait thing for too long. I have some big projects and my 3+ year old Dell is struggling bigtime. I'm planning on upgrading to 8gb RAM.

When the refresh drops, if it is really appealing, I'm thinking that I could sell this one. Especially with the Anti-glare and SSD, resale value should be pretty high, agree?

This will be my first personal mac computer tho I use them at work and have owned every iPhone as well as iPad2. stokedddd!

Saved $100!

Purchased a MBP Refurb, called to swap for a another model that cost $100 more, they gave me a $100 discount!

Comes next day air by Wednesday. http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0M18LL/A

SC2 will be no problem. Forums said 40+ fps on high quality, 100 fps on medium, 200 fps on low!

Top of the line 2.3 from last year, it's nearly fast as the newer 2.4 high-end model and cheaper than the low-end 2.2 model. It has the 1 GB Video card you only get with the high end model. I'll swap the 750 GB HD with my SSD and it will be very very fast.

My next decision is on RAM Options: Upgrade to 8 GB 1600 MHz for $50 or 16 GB 1333 Mhz for $240

Gifting my 2009, 2.26 Ghz, 8 GB RAM, 750 GB, OS 10.7 clean installed laptop pre-loaded with:
Office, Photoshop, AutoCAD, VMWare, Windows 7, and Windows XP x64
Only worth $600.

I really saved $450 if you priced the hi-res anti-glare screen. Close to 5% slower than high-end, and over 10% faster than low-end and still saved $50.

Geekbench Score vs. Price
Ghz - 32b/64b Score - Price
2.2 - 9281/10268 - $1950 w/ hi-res
2.3 - 10275/11123 - $1900 w/ hi-res
2.4 - 10489/11362 - $2200
2.4 - 10489/11362 - $2350 w/ hi-res
2.5 - 10806/11667 - $2450
2.5 - 10806/11667 - $2600 w/ hi-res

i just picked this up yesterday after getting my taxes back i retired my old 2008 white macbook to my wife.

Ordered an early 2011 15" 2.3Ghz, 6750M with high-res AG display for $1700.

I just got your model from microcenter for $1599!

Picked up my new MBP on 1/28/12. It'll make a fine addition to my iMac no doubt. 13" model. I'm new to Mac computers but am enjoying the experience so far.

Hello.

Relatively new MacBook Pro owner. I've been a PC guy my entire life and my girl and I took the plunge last summer and bought two beautiful MBPs, 15" screen, i5 processors. Amazing computers to say the least. We both love them. She has wanted one for years, me I was intrigued by them but never gave it much thought until she brought it up. She actually gets tremendous use out of computers for CS5 and all of those crazy Adobe programs. Me, I just use it for business and surfing the web. She also taught me how to use IMovie to edit and gave me a brief intro to CS5. I love this computer!!! I recently upgraded both of our rams to 8gb...just because.

I must say I never thought owning a Mac would be this good. We found amazing deals on them, $1200 each brand new from a local store last summer.

Anyway, the transition from Windows has been very easy and I read these forums and have learned quite a bit. Just wanted to say hello and thank those of you that have helped me (although you guys don't know it) along the way.

I noticed that there's not one of these threads for the plain Macbook section and I didn't want to clutter it up, so I'm posting here.;)

Here's my Macbook mid-2010 model. I upgraded the RAM to 8 GB and it runs like a flyer on Lion:

The only problem with it is the lid's a bit crooked and Genius bar told me it was only cosmetic and not to worry about it, even tough it's still under warranty:

I got it off Ebay for $650. Do you all think it was a good deal?

If it is under warranty, I would have them replace it. Period. It's a defect, and you don't know what effect it will have in the future.

Soon to be Macbook Pro owner

So I will soon join the OSX camp as I will be moving from a HP Elitebook to a Early 2011 Macbook pro.
I will move the HDD to the Optibay, buy a Crucial M4 256 and upgrade the memory to 16GB.
For the case I am looking at a Moshi Codex.
I have worked with powerpc mac's in the past but could not get past a single button mouse at the time.
For virtualization I am looking at getting either parallels or VM Fusion.
I don't know if I can team appliances like I do in VM workstation now.

Any tips for must read threads here for first time OSX'ers are welcome.

Joining the word of Mac!

Well Folks!

Finally joined the Mac universe today after placing an order for the Macbook Pro outlined in my sig ([ordered RAM and HDD separately] and saving over £600 thanks to education pricing!)

Only question though - for those in the UK maybe - all items say 3 business days for dispatch, yet the estimated delivery date is the 20th Feb... a little far off, no? Or is this just typical standard delivery? My iPhone delivered 48hrs after placing the order

Anyway, a big thanks to all on the forums whose advice greatly assisted!

Cheers!

I couldn't resist and got the Microcenter deal as well. I first saw it for $1699 and then almost jumped on it, and then it went down to $1599 and I hesitated, but when they had an open box one for $1,439, I couldn't resist.

It's a shame that a machine that originally cost $2,449 only comes with 4GB of RAM and only a 5400rpm hard drive. I'd take a smaller 7200rpm hard drive over a larger 5400 drive anyday.

I just sold a 2.26GHz Unibody plastic MacBook for $600 with 4GB of RAM so yeah I would definitely say you got a good deal. Watch out for the hinge cracks though... it happened to mine 3 times in less than a year and that's the only reason why I sold it.

In the meantime once I sold that MacBook I picked my ultimate want: a refurbished 2.4 Core i5 13" MacBook Pro for $1087 w/ tax! I feel I got a really great deal and this is the nicest computer I've ever owned. Usually I buy the previous generation model because the price is lower but this time I figured what the hell and went for the latest model! It's so fast and I'm loving having an aluminum computer again. I'm figuring this one will last me for quite some time.

Well I finally did it. I went to Best Buy today and bought myself a nice shiny new 13.3" Macbook Pro to complement my 27" iMac. Man...it's totally awesome. They had a pretty ok discount going...$1138 + tax, so I bought it along with a laptop bag.

Fired it up and got Twitter and Firefox installed, and that's it. I got some work to get done now but will install more programs later.

So far...best money I've ever spent aside from my iMac. I love my new Macbook Pro! :D :D :D :D

i'm ready for a new Macbook Pro. I have a 15", and a Macbook AIR, I'm thinking of changing it up and going for the 17" but I have to go to apple and mess with it.

Finally decide to upgrade my old 13" 2008 Macbook to the following:

15" Macbook Pro (Late 2011)
i7 Quad Core 2.5
4GB RAM
Hi-Res Antiglare
With the sweet, sweet dedicated 6770M GPU

I couldn't resist when I found this set up on Apple's official refurb list for ~$500 off the list price of one with similar specs.

Still looking to upgrade though! Now I'm on the hunt for the best SSD to put in (thinking Samsung 830 Series at the moment) and the best way to switch over the included 750GB 5400rpm drive to the optical bay. Any suggestions are welcome!

So I've decided to upgrade my current 17" setup with the following:

Apple 17" MacBook Pro quad-core Intel Core i7 2.3GHz
4GB RAM
750GB 5400-rpm Hard Drive
Intel HD Graphics 3000 and AMD Radeon HD 6750M
Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display

Upgrades will be happening in the next few weeks. Can't decide from 12 to 16 GB of OWC Ram and which SSD to buy.

Purchased from MacMall with the extra 3% discount from AppleInsider and plus the $50 MIR from MacMall. I can't to get it on Wednesday!
