I just upgraded from the 13" 2.3 Ghz Core i5 (early 2011) MBP to the 15" 2.4GHz Core i7 quad core (late 2011) because a) I needed a bit more power for some of the things I am working on, and I really wanted a better graphics option than the Intel HD3000 in the 13". So far I have been extremely impressed with this machine, as it handles everything I throw at it with room to spare. I have even installed Windows under Bootcamp in order to test SWTOR, and it runs better on this laptop than on my six core desktop. I am very impressed with this machine!

2nd to take the super drive out and put that in an external case and put at least a 500GB HDD in that bay

I've never considered doing this before. I'm currently weighing up whether to hold out for the next upgrade (60% chance of doing this) or just getting one now (want one so badly; got rid of my 4 year old MacBook 2 months ago).

Is swapping out the SuperDrive for a 500GB HDD relatively easy? Do you need any extra components or a simple swap?

I've actually had it for a week now, but I recently bought a brand new, Early 2011 15" MBP.

2.3 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
15.4-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit Hi-Res antiglare widescreen display, 1680-by-1050 resolution
4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
750GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Intel HD Graphics 3000 and AMD Radeon HD 6750M
1GB GDDR5 graphics memory

Original price $2,599, current Apple refurb price $1,999, I paid $1,599.

I'm pretty happy to say the least...

That's a great price.. where did you pick it up at?
Micro Center. It was an in-store-only thing, and I have no idea if stores other than my own local store have/had it. My local store (Westbury, NY) still has stock though it's now back to $1,699, which is the price on the sticker on the box. It's still quite a steal at $1,699 though. If I had seen it at $1,699 I probably would still have bought it. At $1,599, even though I was not in need of a new computer right now, it irresistible. I am not sure I have ever seen a new, almost-current Mac from an authorized reseller at a full $1,000 below list price.

It must be a pretty late production unit too, since it has Lion.

17" MBP with the ANTI-GLARE upgrade. ::giggles:: #productivityboost - I cannot freaking wait...

Just bought my first Mac yesterday. I got the 13" MBP i5 4GB 500GB. I work with PCs and my previous laptop was a Gateway i3 4GB 500GB, but this MBP flat out kicks its tail. I'm stuck on the fence whether or not I should install bootcamp or a similar program because one of my courses requires MS Project. I might just keep the gateway around long enough for that then hand it off to my mom.

With this purchase, my wife and I are completely Apple. 2 iPhones, 2 Macbooks, 1 iPod touch, 1 iPod classic, 1 iPad 2. It's amazing. It might be time to put that awesome Apple sticker on my car.:apple:

17" MBP with the High-Res upgrade. ::giggles:: #productivityboost - I cannot freaking wait...

High res, huh?

I'll be going to Future Shop (sadly there's no apple store within a 10 hour drive and I live in a city of 500k... No love for Canada :() tomorrow for a base 17" MBP. They're honouring Apple's student price, plus giving me 10% of the $200 price difference off the cost. Plus I have a $100 gift card...

I'll make sure I fax apple a copy of my receipt to prove my date of purchase ASAP :D AppleCare will come later on...

Just upgraded my 13" MPB to the Late 2011 15" MBP with 2.4 i7 and the 6770HD video card with 1GB RAM. This thing is soooooo fast. And I sold my 13" Early 2011 MBP to my friend for $800. So all is good!

Around last week I posted a thread asking whether I should buy a refurbished low end early 2011 MBP or wait for the refurbished low end late 2011 MBP.

After reading everybody's comments, it was still a hard decision to make but I saw the late 2011 MBP model in the refurbished store today and decided to pull the trigger.

Hopefully, I made the right decision.

:)

Just ordered my 15 low end with upgraded hi-res anti glare screen.

Now while I wait for it, I need to order the RAM upgrade and figure out which SSD I want to put in it (Crucial M4 or Samsung 830).

Well, thanks to the help from this forum, I've decided to quit waiting and placed my order. I tried going to the Apple store first, but I guess my configuration is too exotic or something:

15" Macbook Pro (top end version with the 6770m)
2.4ghz i7
750 gb 7200rpm HDD
4 gb RAM (will upgrade to 8gb on my own, save about 160 bucks)
High Res Glossy Display

Should arrive in a week or so. Not quite the instant gratification I was hoping to get at the Apple store... but what can I do?

Just got a late 2011 15" from the amazon warehouse deals section. Thing has a couple very small scratches on the bottom but other than that I can't tell it was an open box item. Really good prices on the warehouse deals.

I finally pulled the trigger on a 13" base model, and I am absolutely in love. I know theres crazy rumors going around about a possible redesign, but with 2 online classes and a laptop that was on its last legs, I didn't have the luxury of waiting. I have had such a wonderful experience with apple that I just wanted to share it with all of you.

I ordered my machine on Monday, after finally having the sufficient funds to do so. The rep was very helpful with helping me place my order, and getting the education pricing was not a hassle at all. I still had a couple of compatibility questions and the rep was able to answer them all. He was even able to suggest a nice sleeve(though unfortunately its out of stock for the next 5-7 weeks). We wrap my order and he tells me that I should expect deliver either wednesday or thursday. Boom. Im all set to go.

Fast forward a couple of hours, I get an e-mail from Apple stating that there has been a problem with my payment, and they advise me to contact my financial institution. I call my bank and explain the situation. The tele-banker tells me that they blocked the payment due to it being such a high and unusual amount. She tells me I'm all good to go now, so I call Apple back to try the payment again. The lady tries it again and tells me that its all cleared up now, and my machine is ready to ship! On top of that, she even throws in a free sling sleeve!

As if things couldn't get any better, I come home Tuesday, and to my utter surprise, my MacBook is waiting just outside my room!

Sorry for such long post, but as I said, I had such a smooth a pleasant transaction that I wanted to share it here :)

Just bought my first mac. I have been llooking at the 13 inch MBP 2.4 I5 model for a few weeks now. I went on to the Apple Refurb store online today and saw the I7 2.7 ghz model for 1189$. I had to buy it. Cant wait to get it!

First Mac

I also just received my first Mac. A 13" i5 Macbook Pro. Being a longtime Windows user, I cannot believe how much better the Mac is. I could not be any happier.

Got a great deal at MacMall. Ordered it last night, and had it by Noon today.
