Here's a question for you guys.. I noticed today that no system restore DVD was included with my refurbished macbook pro.. should there have been? There's a little black sleeve that looks like a DVD should go in it.. but nothing there .. any ideas?

No restore discs with Lion. To use recovery you have to hold down Command + R on start up.

There's more info here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/recovery/

Ordered my first MacBook Pro.
2.2GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
128GB Solid State Drive
8x Double-Layer SuperDrive
MBP 15" HR Antiglare WS Dspl
Just checked the UPS tracking "Shanghai, China 01/03/2012 22:17 Export Scan" So hopefully it will be here by January 9th.

BestBuy Open Box

There are some decent deals right now at BestBuy as they are doing an additional $100 off open box price.

Just got an Early 2011 15.4 i7 2.0ghz with 500gb drive for $1321

Noticed a bonus, has iLife 09 on it :)

not too shabby for a quad core i7. Now to work on getting Lion on it.

Just checked my order status and my new MBP was delivered to my student halls this morning! :D So excited, I can't wait to go back on Sunday to get it! It's killing me knowing it's there but not being able to play with it. :p

Getting ready to pull the trigger (I think) on a nice MBP 15" setup. I debated back~n~forth on a 17", but this machine is nicely loaded, and since it will spend a good amount of time connected to a 24" external display, I thought it [the 15] was a great balance of performance and portability.

More details after I make a final _final_ decision :D

Slowly filling the homestead with gallons of the delicious and refreshing iKoolaid :) Wife: iP4, MBP 13, Me: MBP 15/17[?], iP4S ... Booboo: iPad (er, it was _mine_ hahaha...), Family: Apple TV

Funny enough I'm a designer/developer/architect primarily using MS based technology, but I'm just going to run the couple of dev apps I need in Parallels (one reason I want a Pro, so I can go quad-core and 8GB of RAM).

My 16GB of ram arrived today for my new MBP, going to install it shortly.. woohoo!

That's the OWC upgrade? Very cool. I'm going to be running some resource intensive VMs, starting with 8GBs, but it's great to know there's a channel for a 16GB upgrade.

Any specific usage for that much RAM?

Actually I bought it from crucial, it was about $40 less than OWC surprisingly.

Just got it installed the machine is amazingly peppy.. going from 4 to 16 was the right move. :D

I intend on running VMs and memory intensive programs like photoscan.

Cool, I didn't realize anyone else was offering a 16GB upgrade.

OK, made the MBP purchase Here's the actual deal/specs/etc:

2011 MBP 15", 2.3GHz Core i7 (quad-core, 2820QM 8MB), 8GB RAM (1333 MHz DDR3), 500GB 7.2K HDD, 1GB 6750M GPU (w/ Intel HD 3000 secondary), Hi-Res 1680x1050 AG/matte display.

It's mint condition, everything is BTO/OEM, purchased 4 months ago, with 3 year Applecare (2 years, 8 months remaining, expires Oct 2014), Lion (and DVD), MS Office 2011 (nice extra bonus worth a few hundred $$$), Belkin mini-DP HDMI adapter, charger, all original documentation, software, receipts, boxes and packaging.

$1800 shipped to my door. Thought that was a pretty excellent deal.

[edit]

Also got a new Apple BT keyboard from the seller, a great deal got even better, the original receipt showed $2642 not including the Applecare, Office 2011, HDMI adapter or keyboard! Great guy, he even already shipped it.

3rd is to destroy all paperwork and cover my tracks so that my wife does not find out how much i spent....first Mac
Good plan Snackman! I plan to do the same when they refresh the MBP lineup!

13-inch: 2.4 GHz
2.4GHz dual-core
Intel Core i5
4GB 1333MHz
500GB 5400-rpm1
Intel HD Graphics 3000
Built-in battery (7 hours)

That's the one I bought and yes it's lovely. I will never go to a pc again:D

I've put an order for 15' Macbook Pro with

2.4 Ghz Quad i7
4 GB Ram (it's easily upgradeable, so I won't need one now)
High resolution antiglare screen (I would appreciate if someone gives feedback if that screen strains the eye, because I have ordered this one to have more "relaxed" eyes (less reflections))
750 GB Hard Drive @5400 rpm - I plan on installing optibay and putting in it an SSD in the near future, also I will feel the "stock experience". I would also appreciate if someone tells me if there is a BIG difference between those two! (not that I can't search some YouTube video, but it's always nice to hear feedback from real person.

I also wonder if I wasted ~$300 by ordering the one with the 2.4 Ghz processor, because I could have got the 2.2 one, purchase aftermarket RAM right away and still come out with more money. Not to mention the fact that from where I live (for now) this configuration is priced at $3000 :( But still, it's my first Mac and I am excited about it, having high expectations!

Where do you live? This configuration comes out to just shy of $2,500 including tax in CT.

...In the European Union . The situation is the same with all the Apple products. Non-Apple laptops and computers in general are incredibly more affordable, resulting in the unpopularity of Apple across Europe.

Just a followup to my post above (posted from my new machine).

Exactly as described above, perfect ... mint ...

Even all the OEM packaging was put back on it like I bought it brand new (clear cover, keyboard foam, etc.)

Also a CD copy of Lion since he wiped the drive ... the re-install was a piece-o-cake :)), all the docs, box, paperwork, etc.

Made sure it was wiped clean (it was pretty much out of the box) and immediately installed my new Speck case that also came today - love the blue/green glow of the Apple logo through the top cover.

Some semi-craptacular pics

This really is a beautiful and fast machine :)

2012 Macbook Pro 17

wonder how much more $$$ the redesigned MBP17 will run? Put all my cash into gift cards just to buy one and now i'm waiting for the the latest and greatest. Anyone hear of a price hike above the 3g's ?
