Best Buy has 10% off open-box items this week.

I was about to grab a 2012 11" Air for $900 when I saw the store had a 13" Retina for $1400. That's $810 vs $1260, I figured if anything the resale on the 13" Retina would make up for it in 2-3 years.

The screen is just...wow. But it feels weird if I don't have it on the highest resolution setting.

Thank you so much!

You just saved me over $650! I picked up an open box MacBook Pro Retina 15" they had for $1699.99. Saved with the open box 10% coupon, minus a $5 reward card I received in the mail and they gave me 3x Reward Zone points on the purchase!

This machine retails for $2199.00 and I've only seen maybe $200 off previously.

Out the door price was $1648.51 with tax plus I'm looking forward to about $90 in rewardzone bonus too!

I ordered a refurbished MacBook 13" standard specs on 1/19 and due to arrive tomorrow. And will wonders never cease! The confirmation I received after ordering said price was 1019 + tax = $1103. I am always charged tax on my apple orders. When the actual charge hit, it shows $1087. I now have to wait for arrival to see the invoice as to why the charge is lower. Not complaining!

I am so excited and nervous. This is my first Mac after using pc's since the mid 80's. I can just see it not connecting to my router and IF that is successful, then it all crashing when I try to do the mountain lion upgrade. Just one more day, deep breath.

How do I check battery cycle count when I get the refurb Mbps?

I finally made a decision after chewing it over for entirely too long to purchase my first MacBook. I settled on the 15" 2.3 GHz i7 model. Should be here early next week. Definitely excited since I've been a slow Apple convert for the past few years. :D

I myself just picked up a 2.7Ghz MacBook Pro 8GB RAM 1TB HD with the Glossy Wide screen display. It is a Christmas and Birthday present to myself:D
Can't wait to get it.

I decided against the retna due to the fact that i'm a power user and aside from the screen there isn't anything mine can't do that it can't (being cheaper doesn't hurt either) $2750 was my limit and the MacBook Pro retna was more then $500 over maxed out.

The $1103 price included the CA sales tax. You will be charged the tax rate in your state, hence the lower price. To get the cycle count go to about this mac, click on more info, then on system report and click on power. You will see the cycle count and condition of the battery.
Have fun with your new Mac.

Just bought a new in box rMBP 13" base 128G drive MBP off of craigslist for $1000. It's the first mac I've owned since my MacII and MacIIcx in the early 1990's. It's quite a culture shock to go back to a mac from my 20+ years as a windows PC guy, but the price was fantastic.

Before all you holier than thou folks tell me it was stolen, I don't think it was. The guy said he bought a lot of 10 of the 128gig and 256 gig from an freight auction site and is reselling on CL. He said he makes a pretty good living doing buys and resells and likes to work the penny auctions too.

He gave me a real name and regular email address and made no suspicious statements or actions and invited me to email him any time to check his current inventory. I googled his name and even checked my state's court records to make sure he wasn't a known criminal before the purchase.

I'm pleased as punch, the retina screen is absolutely incredible.

really?

Honestly, I have to say if one thinks that there is a chance of truly getting a 1700$ list price brand new model computer for 1000$ brand new, and it not being either stolen or something else one should probably be careful wit telemarketers.

Apple has margin, but not THAT much margin and they simply are not dumping these units in any way at this time.

Those puppies either fell off a truck or were taken from some inventory. There have been many reports of either warehouse thefts, or retail thefts, I would wager that this was one of those.

The guy most certainly did not buy the machines from Apple, no question about that.

However, there are all kinds of legitimate scenarios where people can get product at a steep discount. For example an apple reseller goes out of business and gets liquidated by creditors. There is a HUGE legitimate secondary liquidation market out there that most people never even know exists. This guy could be tied in to that market.

Buying from penny auction sites is also another mechanism where machines are sold at steep discounts, those machines have to go somewhere and I'd venture a guess that it is often to the resale market.

Also in my town we have a big university. Students (stupid ones) will often take their student loan money, buy hardware and resell it for cash (beer money). They then use free computer labs at the university to do their school work. Craigslist in my town is flooded every fall with "new in box" laptops and other items that kids resell at the expense of mom or dad or student loan debt.

I guess you can look at people two ways, inherently honest or inherently dishonest. They guy was willing to meet in a public place with video cameras and lots of other folks and he made no effort to hide or evade my questions and I did some due-diligence on this guy so I choose to say he is honest in this case.

Just because something is a good deal, doesn't mean it is a "steal".

Hello From MacBook Newbie

Hello,
I've been a UNIX/PC user for over 15 yrs. I finally switched to MacBook Pro -Mid 2012, TODAY. This boy is extremely fast!!! :p

I'll pick up a book for dummy tomorrow to learn Mac OS. I don't think it will take me too long to catch up. Meanwhile, any advise/tutorial from Mac Experts will be greatly appreciated.

Especially any tips/tricks on Eclipse for Java Developer will be awesome!

Thanks all and please accept me into your Mac family :)

PS: I am also looking for good bluetooth mouse :)

welcome !! get an ssd drive it makes your macbook really fast ..u will not regret it

Thanks.

I will research on how to get an SSD drive. I think one of my co-worker said something about removing the CD-ROM and install SSD drive. But I am a newbie, so, there will a lot to learn here :p

As stated in earlier, I ordered a refurbished macbook pro 4gb 500 hd mid 2012 and received it Friday. Got it all setup and am so happy with it. It seems brand new to me, no marks from use and 0 battery cycles. Even came loaded with ML even tho the product description said “eligible for upgrade to ML". Very happy with it and how easy it was to setup and get connected to my old cheap ISP provided router.

Also is there any way to fix scrolling lag on google chrome? im downloading the new mountain lion software now, thanks

I bought my MBP mid 2012, 15", i7 @ 2.26Ghz, 8GB RAM, 750GB HD, from my neighbor. She got it as a gift less than 30 days ago and it came with BB geek squad 2 yrs protection plan, $1650. I called BB and Apple to verify before I paid :)

I've been playing with it for the last few days. This thing is awesome! My background has been a UNIX sys admin and pc user for over 15 yrs. I never thought I would switch to Mac, but once you go Mac you can't go back :)

I downloaded and installed iTerm and I am back to the UNIX world anytime I wanted to. Also, Eclipse IDE works great on Mac. Most of the Java syntax are auto populated. Most of the apps are running very smooth so far.

This is the best laptop I ever owned and also the most expensive laptop I ever bought :). But I am happy with it.

Next upgrade will be adding an SSD drive.

My MBP arrived late this afternoon. It's the base 2012 15 inch model. Battery is in great shape and there's nothing wrong with the machine as far as I can tell. Getting ready to run boot camp as soon as the drivers finish downloading.

This is my first Mac and so far I'm very happy with what I've got!

Hard drives might say 128gb or 250gb etc, but not all of that space is useable, then tack on the OS and you lose even more out of the gate, doesn't surprise me that it only says 99gb free.

Wow! And I thought I got a good deal! I just brought an open-box 256GB 13" rMBP for $1610 out the door. Checked the serial before I buy and it said the warranty started on Jan 17th so the previous owner owned it for about 10 days.

I am contemplating returning it though, having a hard time justifying the purchase since my 2010 MBA still run decently well.

13' Macbook Pro

Just got one of these and WOW!! I had a older macbook and this thing is amazing!!! I love it! I would recomend you get the 13' not to small and not to big! :apple:

Got a steal on an open box 15 rMBP with a 512 GB SSD!!! Convinced the manager to knock down the price to $2000 since they are having issues with image retention. I discovered that it had 0 cycle counts on it and had not been registered. I bought a brand new computer!
