Either someone at Apple is feeling very generous or something is not adding up.......

It was advertised as a base model with 8GB on the refurb site for $1599. Not sure why they threw in the extra 8GB for both of us, but we must have ordered around the same time to get them within one day of each other, and we both got the same upgrade.

I haven't seen the base model 15" rMBP on the refurb store since, so maybe we lucked out and got the last couple that they had, though they were out of 8GB and only had 16GB left. I would think that it really isn't a big deal to Apple to just give us the 16GB upgrade for the same price. Probably a lot easier than canceling our orders, etc.

Everyone's pulling the trigger after the long wait

I'm still holding out for haswell :(

The prices have come down so much that it's not worth waiting anymore for me. If the Haswell 15" rMBP performs as well as the current one (and it may not), or even if it performs a little better, it's still going to cost $2100+. I'm perfectly happy getting a refurb for $500 less than that.

Well I'm holding out for haswell cuz $ is not really an issue for me and I value battery life more.

I really hope Apple is gonna release it like within a month or so. :(

That's Apple 1o1 for you. There's a reason they are one of the top marketing empires in the world. Their branding is second to none.

They plan this way in advance.

They know this is the time of the year that sites like Macrumors get their biggest hits. They know people that have been holding out, have saved the money and are ready to sign for a new Macbook.

They squeeze you into a tough spot. They've basically got 1 month and change left to unload as much 2012 MBPs as they possibly can, before it comes 'old model'...

Hi guys!
New user here, been stalking this site as I'm a major Mac book fan!
Ive owned 11 iPhone and some iPod and hate iOS devices! Rocking a note 2!
But anyways, I will be getting my third Mac book ever on Tuesday!
Its a 2009 15.4 inch Mac book pro unibody with 4gb ram, 320gb HDD and the 3.06ghz core 2 duo with the dedicated 9600m gt 512mb(main reason for getting this one)
Bought off eBay, looks to be in great shape!
I only paid 399 for it! This was 200 cheaper than any other mb985ll/a model I could find. I had to have the dgpu!
The only issues with it are it needs a new battery AMD there's 2 lines down the screen and if in a certain position the screen will flicker
So it will need a screen at some point. But that's no biggy, I'm 21 and I rebuild laptops and cellphones and stuff!
It comes with ml iLife 11 cs5 and windows 7 loaded
So what do you guys think about the pricing?

I wouldn't say this marketing tactic is exclusive to Apple though, or even that they came up with it first. Car dealerships have been using the same practice for decades... as have many other industries.

yeesss finally got my new base model of the 15" retina. Loving it!
I just could not wait any longer.. I sold my old white one in march hoping for a june release but.. well.. you all know :)

a label on the box says it has been produced in june 2013 and it has the samsung display so I am happy.

I run it at 1920x1200 and I don't notice any special lag so I think its a keeper :)

Can't wait to give OSX a go.

You may just see pigs fly. After being a die hard pc man I took advantage of the Best Buy deal @ $899 with no sales tax for the base MBP.

I blame my 25 yr old daughter who bought this same model 10 months ago & everytime we visited I couldn't keep my hands off it.

Finally purchased my first macbook!!!!!!!!!!

Been thinking about this when the first retina macbook pro was announced last year. And finally prices have come down to make way for the newer gens, this was the best time for me to get my new Retina macbook pro.

I FRICKEN LOOOOVE IT!!!

oh btw its a 13", good enough for me!

why the hell did apple change the magsafe to a straight T, the 90 degree one was so cool! WTF this is the only issue i have right now

899????????? Wtffffffffffffffff??????

Yea BB has a promo for the base 11" @$949, 13.3"@$999 for both MBA and cMBP

Plus, another $100 off if you have an .edu address.

Finally, some states enjoy a tax free weekend once a year, so that's additional savings!

Macbook Pro retina 15" 8 GB 256 SSD

I purchased my 15" rMBP w/ 8 GB ram and 256 SSD at Best Buy on Friday.
I was trying to go refurb, but nothing in the Apple refurb store was available in a configuration I needed. By the time I would have bought a refurb cMBP and upgraded the ram and drive to SSD it was a wash. In addition, the classic MBPs are not retina and are heavier!

At least I got it for $1999 ($200 cheaper than the Apple Store) and it was tax-free weekend. Plus for some reason best buy threw in an Appletv. But hey I couldn't argue with that.

Still expensive, but I think I got a great computer and for that price I'd rather go new.

Nice! Do you plan on keeping the Apple TV or you going to sell it?

Just placed an order for a base 15" rMBP refurb since Apple re-stocked this morning!

That's why I jumped. rMBP 13/8/256. $200 off at BB, then $100 for edu discount and then over $100 saved on taxes in NC. $1399 out the door. I'd like a Haswell, but the savings was too good. Helps tighten up the loss if resold also.

Haha, on 13.3 on sale for $999, she's a college student minus $100, tax free w/e 0. I thought "No Brainer".

I had to hit submit, cause I almost went for that one.

Retina 4 Lyfe

I've had my Apple refurb 15" rMBP 2.3/8/256 for about three weeks and I absolutely LOVE it. It's more or less a brand new machine for a killer price. To anyone on the fence about Retina vs. non-Retina, get a Retina machine. It is magical. I can never go back to a regular screen even after three weeks. It honestly makes the other non-Retina Apple machines look cheap and very outdated.

As for the Haswell question, the Ivy Bridge 15" is without a doubt a damn good computer by any standard. It is more than powerful enough for everything I need it to do.

Cheers.

Congrats on the purchase!! I just bit the bullet and ordered a refurbished 15" rMBP 2.3GHz i7/ 8 GB ram/ and 256 SSD off Apple's online store for $1599 and I am so excited. I've wanted one ever since the keynote last year, but they were a little too expensive. I was going to get a 13" rMBP but I just couldn't justify paying that much money when I can get a much better equipped 15" i7 for $1599... It was a no brainer actually. I saw a listing for the 15" rMBP late last week for $1599 and the next day it was gone, I was so disappointed I didn't jump on it sooner. So I was mighty surprised when I logged on this morning and saw another 15" rMBP going for the same price, ordered right away. Should be here on Friday the 9th wooo hooo!!!:D:D:D

** I see some people recieved 16GB of ram instead of 8GB, hoping mine comes with 16GB I'll have to check when I get it:D

Placed my order this morning as well. Cheers to us having good luck on getting a freebie!

Gona have to sell the 2011 15" MBP to help cover the cost now :p
