I've had my mid 2012 refurb rMBP 15" base for only 4 days and I'm thinking of returning it.............because I just picked up a brand new 2013 15" rMBP base for $ 1600 off Craigslist.

It was still shrink wrapped ( I tore open the wrap and everything checks out ) and a copy of the Apple receipt stating he just picked it up the day before at the Apple Store. Serial numbers match up and all.
Receipt showed $2,199 + tax that he paid.

He claimed he paid with his credit card but instead of just returning it to Apple he would rather have hard cash??????? If he paid with a stolen CC how was he able to pick it up at the Apple Store? Not sure what to think of this.......

Another note: refurb 2012 has Samsung display ----defn more yellow looking
2013 has LG display -- things look more white/blue

im going to the store today to pick up the 13" rMBP 256GB SSD.
Ive been waiting for 6 months now for the Haswells to come out.. but I have to buy one now because I'm leaving.
Rather than buy an upgraded 13" rMBP with i7 or 15" base model, i figured I would get the 13" rMBP i5 and resell it when Haswell comes out. Since its the cheaper option, I'm hoping this will save the most money when reselling and only lose couple hundred dollars. Not worth buying an upgraded rMBP when the Haswells will be awesome. Agree?

Congrats on your purchase. Are you paying MSRP? You will lose the most money going that route if you plan on selling down the road. You should look for a deal at open box Best Buy or order a refurb. Anyhow, who knows maybe you won't need/want to upgrade once the Haswells come out.

i would order refurb from apple.. the problem is i waited too long. I tried holding out for a laptop this entire summer in hopes of Haswell, but now i have like 3 days to get a laptop. So unfortunately I cant order online either because shipping would take too long :( .
If I were to buy in store, which do you think would have better prices? best buy or apple? and you think the 13" retina will be hard to resell at a good price? i was going to apple store to buy it, but just want to make the best investment for reselling

You may not have to wait long. I received my refurb Retina MacBook Pro two days after I placed the order on the Apple store website. I was stunned how soon it arrived. (Then again, it may depend on your location. It shipped from Long Island, NY and I live in Manhattan.)

Best Buy open box will be the best price. Where are you located? Zip code?

Hello. First time mac user. I've been a long time PC user since 1996. just mad the switch. picked up a 2008 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 512 MB OS X Lion 10.7.5 . So far I have learned a lot from this site and hope to learn a lot more. I mainly will be using this for my DJ business, but also will be using it for some entertainment. I also have a Ipad 3 to compliment it.

Welcome. This forum is excellent - answers to all the questions seem to be just a click away.

Enjoy your Mac!

Bought a 13" base cMBP. I couldn't wait for October to see if the current one was going to be updated and I start college tomorrow. I'll be using it for your normal student needs (papers, presentations, web...) and for my concentration needs which involve light/medium Photoshop since I'm an Advertising major (creating ads, personal use for light photo editing, overall editing). The rMBP was simply out of my budget and in the future, I'll change the super drive for an SSD (& no update soon enough for my college :( ).

Hopefully, I got it right this time and won't regret it? Did I make a good decision?

You purchased a mac and stayed within your budget. You've already done what far too many simply don't have the discipline to do.

Good job. When you can afford to upgrade, you'll enjoy it, and nothing is like that good feeling of knowing you deserve an upgrade.

::thumbs up:: :)

Don't feel bad. I just bought myself a 13" cMBP 2.9GHz model. This is my first Mac ever. I love it. $1499. Totally worth it. It's for my college courses I'm getting ready to take. Technology is always changing man. It's endless. You would of waited October and next thing you know Apple is talking about a refresh next year.

You stayed within your budget which I did. You needed a notebook computer. Don't feel guilty.

A couple of weeks ago I purchased an open box MBPr 15 at Best Buy for $1,600. Awesome computer. Super fast and the retina makes a difference on the eyes. My only concern was the size of the HD being only 250GB but i think I can manage with an external HD. I still have to run windows in parallels.

But overall I love the 15 MBPr.

That's a good deal! Did you have to haggle the price?

Nope, the price on the box was $1,687 and he offered the $1,600 price. BB is where I also got an incredible price for the $799 Mac mini.

If you have patience, you can get good deals at Best Buy for an open box item.

Im just about to order the refurb 15" retina for 1599$, my only concern is getting a lg screen...
Does anybody knows what are the chances of getting a samsung from the refurb store?

Don't worry about it. The bad SJA1 panels are almost all gone, and lots of people prefer the LG's cooler color bias anyway. No one can tell you what your individual odds are of getting any particular panel. Refurbs seem to be mostly Samsung, but no one really knows.

Your chances of getting a bad screen, regardless of which one arrives in your order, are pretty low.

Pulled the trigger...

Just ordered - Refurbished 15.4-inch MacBook Pro 2.7GHz Quad-core Intel i7 with Retina Display - from Apple. 16GB ram with 512 SSD. Can't wait...my first mac!

This thread is so much happier than the "Waiting for Haswell" thread!

:D

Haha well you have happy people purchasing their Mac on this thread and you have angry people waiting for the refresh in the other. :p

Yup - and if this refresh isn't what we want we'll be even angrier!

just picked up a 13 inch retina yesterday because I need it before September. Amazing machine, my first mac!!

does anyone know if apple is still generous with the exchange policy if newer products are released. I've heard that they might be willing to extend it from 14 to 30 days if a new upgrade is released. Maybe if Haswell really comes out September I could exchange. Otherwise im more than happy

Bought a new baseline 15" rMBP today!

Had been waiting for Haswell for a pretty long time prior to the purchase but with starting university in September I couldn't wait any longer. Would have been nice if Apple had updated the rMBP but oh well, I love the computer. My first Mac.

The Apple sales-rep was telling me that if Apple announces an upgraded version of the Pro within the next 30 days I could upgrade for free, which is good to hear!

I was playing a game earlier and noticed that my right arrow key squeaks when pressing it repeatedly. I'm not sure why this would be happening only hours into it being used, and I'm not quite sure what to do about it. Through Google searches I've read that Apple can replace the key fairly easily but that's a bit disheartening considering I just bought the computer today. :(

I suppose I'll go back to the Apple Store and see if it is in fact simple to replace the key without any effect on the computer, or if I should just ask for a new one. I've also already spent over $25 of the $100 App Store gift card that is included in the student special deal, so I'm not sure how easy it is to get that music back onto another computer...

All in all love the computer but annoying that there's already an issue!
